- This video shows my truck shell camper and camp set up while camping at Wilson Creek Wilderness in North Carolina. I use a Honda generator if needed to power an AC, coffee maker, electric fan, lights and accessories for a comfortable set up while parked in a remote area.

The reflective cloth is called "Temptrol"

Pretty neat setup!
@@Matt-fw3xw Thanks Matt! It works out pretty good.
Wow that AC setup is pretty ingenious! Thanks for sharing.
AS LONG AS YOUR HAPPY, THATS ALL THAT MATTERS, BE SAFE, HAVE FUN, GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS REV. BUDDLE AMEN
May God continue to bless you and yours.
Son of a gun! I’ve watched countless videos on rigs like this (to get ideas), and yours is the best I’ve seen yet! And that’s a gem of a rare topper find! I’d love to have one with high-rise like that and all the windows! Great video
Wow thanks! The topper is an oldie but goody. I've made some improvements here and there since this video. Check them out if you get a chance. czcams.com/play/PLyULrmEX-g_OaUy6Yo7tfNMWjllNygfUe.html
I second this. The bar has been raised, but oddly enough this is doable by people without advanced handy-skills… like me!
That's the way to do it!!! No fancy subway tile back splash or teakwood counter tops or $700 solar panels ( that only ever charge phones and laptops). Outstanding job!
Exactly! Just the basics with a few small luxuries. Thanks a bunch!
I love that camper shell with all the sloping windows and skylights. My 🐈 cats would LOVE that shelf under the skylights.
Cats would love that warm cubby for sure! My cat jumps in the shell every chance she gets. Thanks for watching.
This is one of the better and most thought out truck camper set ups I’ve seen. You found a great way to reuse a lot of stuff and do it creatively and cost effectively. I see a lot of people with just a bunch of overpriced junk they bought just for to be able to show it off. This set up is for you and I like that about it. Very functional.
Thanks for your nice comment!
Everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Well done.
It's a comfortable minimum! Thanks for the kind comment.
I just ran across this video and I have to say BRAVO! I am a 53 year old grandmother of 4 and I would be very comfortable in this. I love everything about it. You did a great job.
Thank you. This simple truck shell build works out great!
@Tammy Earl same same! I am also a gramma of 4, my name is Tammy. This is my dream!
Much gratitude!
❤🧡💛💚💙💜🌎✌
first one ive seen with real AC and this is the only set up that could work for me
It works out great. This video may be helpful. Thanķs! czcams.com/video/qYv_4MEx7GI/video.html
That's a terrific set up. Better than a motel.
LOL It has it's advantages! 👍
Just got my first pick-up about 6 months back and I have been dreaming about just about everything you covered in this video. THANKS!
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Man, I love this. Most of the time I watch these videos some guy has spent tons of money to have the coolest setup. This is waaaaay closer to my tax bracket😂 use what ya got and go enjoy life
Exactly! This isn't for display in a museum trying to impress someone. Practical, comfortable, low budget, gets the job done! Thank you! 👍👍 Check out more vids on my channel.
A free canopy is freakin sweet. Nice guy to give it to you.
Sure is! Free is hard to beat especially when it works!
Nice you were able to do this with almost no cost.
So true. Definately a low budget build that turned out pretty good. Thanks!
That A.C. would make a summer easy and comfortable. Great idea
I don't like dragging it around but you're right, it's nice when you need it! Thanks.
Great low cost, temporary set up! I've got a few ideas from this, thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks!
Omg young man you know how to live. I admire your love of nature and the great ingenuity you have shown in setting up for exploring the beautiful country. I just love each part of your set up . The spot there is breath taking, right by the serenity of the water. That air conditioning is genius. If things every truly bottom out you will survive.
This area has a lot to offer someone who loves nature. These are the places I love to hang out. I hope to add more "outdoors fun" videos soon. Thank you for such a nice comment!
@@geenote I appreciate the video so much. This video has so much information and you are showing great entertainment . I subbed and will share your adventures with many others. I cant wait to see what is next.
That’s the best truck camper set up I’ve ever seen! That idea for the AC blew me away!! We are always hot when we camp in our truck. I also loved your car jump starter idea to power some dc powered things also. Please do some more videos with any new ideas you have.
The AC is nice during hot and humid weather. I do a lot of weekend camping so that portable battery is just right if there's no electricity. Thanks for commenting - Happy Camping!
@@geenote I love your set up! Hey is that a 240v air conditioner or a 120v?
@@reevesjustin 120 volts easily powered by the Honda generator only pulls 5 amps. Thank you!
And while your generator is running, you could be charging your ju.mp starter!
Wow, you crammed it all in there didn’t ya haha! Very cool! All you need is some solar and a good 12v fridge! Love it man!!! I think as men we all find pleasure in doing all this from adventures we had as boys, something about having all of the comforts of home all in a small little fort in the woods. My wife thinks we are all nuts!!! LOL!!!
So true ! I actually have a solar panel and a solar charging station nowadays when needed. Thanks!
AC, a couple of burritos for the microwave and a few bags of popcorn to munch on before bed.. What a life
That's what I'm talkin' bout
This is one of the best shell I have seen so far. thanks..
Thank you very much!
I’ve gone through a hundred or so videos for truck camper. Yours is the best I’ve seen. I wish I could find that shell to fit on my Nissan Frontier super organized, roomy! Fantastic. Love your air conditioner set up.
If you have some time and the patience, you'll find a good deal on one. Thanks for the nice comment.
Wow, I’m excited to read your reply! Thank you. The last good deal on a high top shell I got was in 1989 for my 88 Ranger. Moved to Texas with that shell. Packed up all my must haves in it, my parrot and set out from California to Texas. Paid $60. Now people want $1000+. Brand new is 2-5 grand. Been looking for over a year. Love the loft you designed and I’d like to borrow that idea if I have the right shell for it. I’m most envious of the price of your shell. Well done 👍🏻
I’ll be watching this video again
Perfect little set up.
It works out good and I really enjoy it. Thanks!
Nice build....great topper..for head room...some full time nomads would love to have that set up
Thanks! If I were full time I would definitely go with the high top shell for the extra head room.
Nice setup and I like the way you did it economy to scale.
Thanks!
looks cozy af, nicely done.
Simple and easy build that works out great. Thanks!
one of the nicer setups I have seen.......well done
Thanks Marshall. I think I sleep better in that truck than I do at home!
The perfect truck to camp on the beach too, all you need is a portable shower curtain and you can even use your toilet out there
Great idea for the beach! Actually I already have that exact set up. I plan on showing the shower and toilet set up in my next video. Thanks for commenting.
Great camping setup. Love the AC and loft. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice camping set up...thanks for sharing
Thank you!
You are a genius! That AC unit is amazing! At first I was like where is the AC unit? And then it appeared.. I love DIY setups! & Thanks for the Lifetime Cooler tip! Your daughter must be proud of you. Cozy blanket and set up inside! Awesome setup. Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it! It's a cozy setup. Thanks for commenting.
I love the upcycling aspect of this build.
Excellent set up. Your clips at the end also showed different setups. Thanks because the clips answered some of my questions......you said the shell was a little small. I couldn't see any big gaps. Rock on dude!!!
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Love this build!!! Using what you have, people helping out, not going overboard, keeping it simple & not overthinking it...genius!! Enjoy!!!
Exactly! You got it! Thanks!
Great inexpensive setup. I could live like that ... for a permanent camping/fishing trip.
I agree! Thanks!
Now that it’s just me and the dog at my place, the only reason I need the house is I enjoy bathrooms... and need more place for my stuff.
I've seen a lot of trucks camper setups I don't know any comment but dude you really did a fantastic job gave me some great ideas thank you so much I'm also a North Carolinian you did us proud
Thanks man! I got the whole camper shell idea from watching CZcams so it's good to know I gave someone else an idea. I almost didn't post a video but now I'm glad I finally got around to it.
But no fridge?
@@davebarratrooper3835 No fridge, just a couple nice coolers.
@@geenote well its great set up, I'm guessing by the aircon that where you live is hot. Same here really hot all year round, but more humid in our "summer" months (we only have two seasons, wet and dry) just thought if you can have aircon, and its great set up BTW. You can have a fridge. I use Engels, which are pretty much considered the best in terms of reliability and toughness, but there are plenty of cheap 12 v fridges available now. You can even use it as a freezer, and make ice for your coolers as well as storing frozen goods. Any way, nice camp set up mate.
@@davebarratrooper3835 Thanks Dave! It's nice to have four seasons here. It can get hot and humid in the summer and pretty darn cold at times in the winter. I've checked into it and would love to have a really nice fridge. I usually camp no more than a week or less at a time so the coolers work out good for now. Thanks for the advice on Engel brand - I will check them out.
The after pic of the shell is awesome. Great job!!
Amazing what a little bleach and scrub brush will do! Thanks!
Enjoyed seeing your setup. Great job.
I love camping at Wilson creek. I seen the name and had to watch
Great area. I'm due for another trip soon. Thanks for watching!
Man, what a nice setup! It looks unbelievably spacious! I think this is the best pickup truck camper setup I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing! You’ve got a new subscriber.
Thanks man I really do appreciate it! The high top makes a big difference. I keep making small improvements and love using it on my hiking and fishing trips. Thanks for the sub!
Nice, inexpensive build. Everything you need.
Exactly! The minimum to still be comfortable.....
This is really great, it's making me reevaluate my SUV purchase!
very clever mate, all the essentials
Absolutely! Thank you!
Ingenuity at it's BEST! TFS
Thanks so much!.... Hey I like your Fender Bass icon. I have a Fender Precision Lite but I never learned to play a 5 string.
Really awesome Keith. Very efficient and all you really need. I like the truck shell being higher and those nice windows. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Robert! The extra headroom is really nice. I have panels made out of Refectix material to insulate the windows when needed. Love your picture of the Mustang!
Thoroughly enjoyable! Thank you for sharing your camping tips. I camp in our truck cap.
Awesome! Thanks!
well thought out...practical and inexpensive. perfect. thanks for sharing
Definitely a low budget build. Many items were found laying around not being used. Thanks!
Sweet setup.
I love backpacking but if I'm gonna car camp then it's hard to beat. Thanks!
Outstanding setup sir! Well done.
What an awesome setup!! Great video 👍👏👏
Thank you! I just bought a 2020 F-150 4x4 and your video got me excited about getting a topper and going camping with it. So many great and inspiring ideas!
Nice truck! I recommend a shell with extra headroom if you're going to camp often. The taller shell makes it feel more like a camper and less like a box. Thanks for commenting.
Just awesome! Gave me several great ideas.
Excellent job, & beautiful spot.
Like the way you set up camp. 👍 Thanks for doing this video😁
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback!
Gotta agree with everyone here, have seen most all of the truck camping videos available, yours is THEE BEST! Congrats on doing a extremely nice job!
Thanks man! I really appreciate it! I'm gonna try to post another camp set up soon. Happy camping!
Nice set up man. Seems like a peaceful place and quiet.
Enjoy your trip.
Very peaceful. Thanks!
I love your attention to detail ! Outstanding!! You Rock !!!! 😁
Well thanks neighbor!
I really like your truck camper set up! It's very neat and tidy! The scenery is beautiful there too!
Linda thank you!
Love this area. I've camped in this exact same dispersed site several times. Great vid, cool setup!
You and me both! Yes you know it is a nice dispersed camp area. Thanks !
Nice set up! I like the loft you put in also.
Nice video to watch when. Your lit
Even better in person.😎 Thanks!
Great set up. Great video. Be proud you did a very good job.
Nice setup in your truck. Thanks for posting.
Thank you and Thanks for watching! 👍
This is such a nice looking set up. The taller topper really gives it a more comfortable look.
The extra headroom makes a big difference. Thanks!
Great set up of a camping unit , and gives me another idea ( especially since the price for cargo vans keep going up ) , a quick and easy conversion for peaceful getaway . Thanks for the tips !
Thanks Thomas! It is a very easy and cheap conversion for sure. I plan on posting a few more relaxing camp set ups soon.
Probably one of my favorite truck topper camper builds. Well done!
Wow, thanks!
I just bought a truck cap and the a/c install with panels is a great idea
Truck shell AC build video czcams.com/video/qYv_4MEx7GI/video.html
I love your set up,it's well thought out. I want to build one for myself soon. Thanks for the video.
Thanks! You will get much use out of your own build! Let me know if I can help.
You are on it! Great video and really good ideas, that’s part of makes camping so much fun is figuring out ways to make yourself comfortable and you’ve done it. 👌
Nothing wrong with being comfortable within reason. I have made many improvements since I posted this video. Thanks! 👍
Love that shell 👍
Thanks! It's an oldie but goodie!
That's very cool.
Thanks man!
Really enjoy the setup sir. Hope it serves you well and can make improvements in the future to make it even better. Looks great for a weekend getaway for fishing. All i need.
Yes great for weekend getaways which is what I mainly use it for. Thank you!
Watched countless videos... this is amazing 🔥
Glad you liked it. Thank you!
what a beautiful place! I found out years ago that most of my grandmother's family was from wilsonville. Her last name was Wilson imagine that lol but ive never been there but maybe one day! i like the way you have your truck set up i wish i could find a truck top for mine they seem to be MIA at the moment lol
Keep a lookout for the truck shell. Craigslist is a great place but you have to be quick to get the good deals. Thanks for your comment.
Enjoyed the video. Nice post. North Carolina is beautiful.
Thank you! I love this area.
THIS is great set-up; I ESPECIALLY like the idea of…air conditioning-. 😮☺️👍🏼👣
AC is nice when needed. Thanks! 👍
Very well done, Keith. I am looking to put a shell on my Raptor and you have some great ideas. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I could help. Thank you for watching!
That shell worked out great! The reflectics material is perfect, plus the generator and AC and your canopies, you have yourself a regular RV. You could go anywhere in that truck, just as good as a regular truck camper. Good job.
Thanks Man! Your right, I can take that truck on forest roads and places an RV won't go. Plus RV's can be a hassle! I've owned a few.
Hey man thanks for sharing your build! It turned out great and really like how everything has a purpose!!
Cool! Thanks!
You just gave me a solution to the air conditioner in my little pick up camper. Great idea! I’m so glad I found this video.
Glad I could help! I have other videos showing how I built it and the AC in use. Thanks!
@@geenote I watched it, removable panel is so smart… I love when someone has an idea that I’ve gone round and round with. Why didn’t I think of that! Hahaa appreciate it!
That's a really great comfortable setup! Thanx for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
I like your setup the best off of all the internet love it man A+ job yourtruck rocks .
That is a really good compliment. Thanks! 👍
Man that is the nicest set up I have ever seen !!
It's cheap and comfortable. Thanks man!
your truck has a special charm I haven't seen anywhere else, you rock dude!
The low cost and old design makes it a little different. Thanks for commenting!
I have used that water heater insulation prior in a old Land Rover Discovery project to keep the heat from the interior through the roof in the summer and keep in the heat at winter . It works real well.
Greetings from Durham.
We will have to try out that area .
Great video
Thanks Doc! My daughter just graduated from UNC. Son is a NC State graduate and works in Durham. You would love Wilson Creek!
Sweet set-up!
Nice setup. I'm glad to find someone on CZcams that have similar ideas. Love the camper...and the price!
Hard to beat for the price! Thank you!
Great job. How resourceful you are.
Thank you I really appreciate it.
That's a nice looking shell
An oldie but goodie! Thanks!
All the windows are awesome.
Nice setup, I was thinking the same thing with the AC, Here in SC you need it! We have some bamboo around here and I have a few of those harbor Freight tarps....I see an awning in my camper shell future
I like how you think! I know all about that SC heat and humidity - you need that awning! Thanks for the comment.
Very nice setup.
Camper shell looks like it fits great. Like that its taller. Loft really added some storage area. Always good for it to be easily stored away so you can use the truck. 😊👍
The shell has worked out way better than I expected. Thanks!
Nice video. Thank you for sharing it. You have my support. 😊👍
Thank you my fellow Backpacker!
That’s a awesome set up👍👍👍👍👍
Nice build out. I like the shelving and storage you have.
Very simple and easy shelves. No carpenter skills needed. Thank You!
That’s legit been thinking of doing this with my old ford since it has a shell on the back be a cool weekend get away with the old Basstracker 👍
That's what it's about!
Like your set up ,don't think I've seen a camper top like that, like the head room.
It's a really old top. The headroom is nice. Thank you!
That topper sure shined up nice and the camper looks pretty cosy inside. Nice work.
The guy was gonna throw away the shell before I took it and cleaned it up. I use it every chance I get and love it! Thanks!
Very good improvising and a nice set up.
Wow awesome set up love it, been trying to get ideas to set up the back of my truck I have a 2001 Silverado, Appreciate you sharing I’ll be watching for more
