Link-Lives: Creating Historical Big Data with Danish sources

Link-Lives er et forskningsprojekt, der rekonstruerer simple livsforløb for (næsten) alle danskere ved at forbinde spredte historiske oplysninger fra folketællinger, kirkebøger og begravelsesprotokoller fra 1787-1968. Projektet er et tværinstitutionelt samarbejde mellem Rigsarkivet, Københavns Stadsarkiv og Københavns Universitet. Projektleder, forskningslektor og arkivar Barbara Revuelta-Eugercios, beskriver projektets videnskabelige formål. The aim of the Link-Lives project is to extend the range of register- research, based on Danish data, from decades to centuries. By combining historical research methods with deep learning techniques, we are reconstructing life-courses and family relations of almost everyone who lived in Denmark from 1787 until the introduction of the modern Danish Civil Registration System in 1968. The project is hosted by the Danish National Archives (Rigsarkivet) in cooperation with the Copenhagen City Archives (Københavns Stadsarkiv) and the University of Copenhagen. Project leader, associate professor and archivist, Barbara Revuelta-Eugercios, describes the projects scientific purposes. She explains why we need Link-Lives, and what we’ll be able to research in the future.
