- We find ourselves in England, during the late 12th century. The country is in disarray as King Richard the Lionheart is off fighting in the Crusades, leaving his throne exposed to the devious machinations of Prince John. The younger sibling covets his brother’s power and plans to steal the English crown for himself. He is aided by the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham, who uses unaffordable taxes in order to oppress the peasantry and fill his master’s coffers.
Is there nobody who will stand up to such tyrants? Nobody who will pick up the bow and the sword and fight for the innocent people of England? Well, in fact, there is one such man. A brave outlaw who will lead a gang of rogues and outcasts against the reign of terror. A charitable bandit who will steal from the rich and give to the poor. A man known as Robin Hood!

“Robin Hood: Men In Tights” is my go to movie about his life 😂
Same here; "It's just the right size!"
I loved when things were rotten as well
Second only to "Prince of Thieves" in my books
I view the movie list as such:
1) Robin Hood Prince of Thieves; he was definitely the most heroic in a real world setting.
2) Robin Hood Men in Tights; because unlike other Robin Hood’s he spoke with an English accent but still not as heroic.
3) Robin Hood (2010); it was an interesting take on the story with some other historical elements thrown in but it did take its time to get going and left a few questions, like is this supposed to get a sequel?
4)Robin Hood (1973); the animated Disney movie did have an all star cast for the time and for most kids it was our introduction to the character.
5) The Story of Robin Hood and His Merry Men; (1952) English made movie that I came across on Disney+ and was far better than the Earl Flynn movie.
It's pretty much the only movie one needs on the subject
Congratulations on making it, Karl! I love the April Fool’s prank - reminds me of the King Arthur one from years ago, back when Simon was hosting. I didn’t watch that one when it first came out, so, without checking the release date, I wasn’t sure whether it was just speculative or based on some shred of historicity I hadn’t heard about before, but the date on today’s video gave it away for me pretty quickly. 😂
I think Simon also did a Sherlock Holmes one.
Santa Claus as well
@@nickysturzu1290 The Santa Claus video isn't an April Fool's video, though, as it's actually about a real person - the Saint Nicholas from the fourth century AD that we have contemporary records of (he attended the Council of Nicaea, for instance).
King Arthur and Robin Hood, on the other hands, are widely agreed to be fictional persons with no direct historical source.
Love his bonus prank at the end
My favorite Sheriff of Nottingham ..is the late great Alan Rickman.
🐎⚔️
For me it's a toss-up between Alan Rickman and Roger Rees, the bloke who played him in Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
Karl, you ARE the current host of biographics. Great job, man. I had my doubts since Simon's voice is so soothing to sleep to while binging videos but you've successfully taken this thing over. Cheers, mate!
You deserve a hearty congratulations, because I'm watching this on 1 April 2024, and to my knowledge you are still the primary hist for Biographics. I think you're doing a fine job, so no one else's opinion matters! ...or something.....
August 2022?????
Did you just forget to post it in 2023?
I think this is Karl’s best episode
The smallwood intro Will never get old and fits for today😂😂😂😂
If you haven't seen Robin of Sherwood, It's a really good show, It has a perfect soundtrack filled with Celtic music that blends in with the environment, Probably the best version of Robin
Agreed. it has pretty much BECOME *the* story of Robin Hood. It has taken over the mythology. So much so that even Costner's Prince of Dweebs took elements from it.
(cue the whispered singing) Robin.................. the hooded man....
@@sheep-go-quack7600 clannad did a brilliant job
Dude. I got stoned and threw this on thinking it was a real video. Let me tell you, I was entranced by this new Robin Hood lore that I had somehow completely missed all my life. 😂
Yay! There hasn't been a fictional Biographics in so long!
"It's a buck and a quarter, quarter staff, but I'm not telling him that." --Daffy Duck as Robin Hood
Happy April Fools from across that big blue wet thing.
Because this video involves Robin Hood and Men in Tights is one of my favorite movies. I imagined someone asking Karl, "where did your family come by the name Smallwood" and Karl being like , "we changed it in the 10th century..." " wait... You changed it TO Smallwood..." And Karl saying, " yeah... Used to be Littleprick..."
"That's a good change... A good change..." 😂
Duddeee I was like he was real? I got hooked! I got hoodwinked
My husband and I commented on the fact he was catholic and how we neglected that fact 😂
Congratulations Carl!!! Keep up the good work
In fairness, Robin hood probably was either based on a real person or an amalgamation of real people. It was common for outlaws to take refuge from the law in the woods and most men at that time were trained in archery. Maid marion was likely a porky
I’ve been waiting for this ever since the King Arthur episode.
Me too!
Robin Hood is one of my favorite fictional character's. And I'm happy to have you folks tell his story today, as I needed a little mood pick up. I know it's for April Fools, but I still enjoyed it. The first April Fool's video I recall from this channel, was when Simon talked about Sherlock Holmes. That also made my day when I found it. Thank you Karl and thank you Biographics team!
Scarlet/Skathelock was a name imposed by courts as a punishment for theft; "Scathe-Lock", as in he scathes or disdains locks. The records still exist of the name being handed out in court.
Guy De Gisborne is definitely an historical figure, he's mentioned in Magna Carta among a particular few deserving specific punishment.
Robin Hood has given is some good content over the years, From Men in tights, to the Prince of thieves
Men in tights, what a beautiful movie
❤
Errol Flynn's 1938 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' - (by far the best film version).
@@sphtpfhorbrains3592I saw it, It was pretty good
Best April fools prank ever😂😂
Teacher: "Can any tell me the name of Robin Hood's girlfriend?"
Little Johnny: "Yes Miss, it's Trudy Glen."
Teacher: "No Johnny, the answer is Maid Marion."
Johnny: "But miss in the song it says, Robin Hood, Robin Hood,
riding Trudy Glen."
WONDERFUL!! I love when myths are “brought to life”😊😊 thank you, biographics crew!
Congratulations Karl for still being the host!! I love that you are still hosting!
I definitely enjoy your lighthearted vibe :)
Hope you're feeling better.
"Many men speak of Robin Hood, but they don't got his flow.
While you were panicking, dillydallying under the throne, I'd be hijacking into the palace to plunder the gold and then get back on my stallion, galloping to Papplewick, refunding the broke with the money that the monarchy stole!
Then, maybe leave a little gift behind for the rich to find! What kind of present doesn't come with a bow?"
The whole story of Robin hood has been told time and time again over many centuries. It is a story of good VS evil. A story that in one way or another, we all need. We need to know deep down in our hearts and our souls. That good is always gotta win over evil and believe me, good always wins over evil.
Awesome bonus treat there at the end, Karl! Congrats 😀 on making it.
You've still done a good job mate ))) Going along the Robin Hood's life story once again is always a pleasure ))
Thank you for the video on him ⚔️
Sheriff of Nottingham: "LOCKSLEY!!! I'm gonna cut your heart out with a SPOON!"
Later...
Guy of Gisborne: "Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe or--"
Sherriff of Nottingham: "BECAUSE IT'S DULL, YOU TWIT! IT'LL HURRRT MOOORE!!!"
You did get me, that was like a combination of Prince of Thieves and 1952 film that has a long as title. But still have to admit Robin Hood is popular because of his character appeals to so many. I was told by a teacher that the Queen regions (mother of Richard and John) hired thieves to rob rich carriages in order to secure funds to buy Richard’s ransom from either Spain or France, one of the two held him hostage after the failed crusade, most likely France. Either way good job keeping a straight face because I was buying the fool’s gold thinking it was the genuine article.
Congratulations Karl! Glad you're still here ❤
Congratulations karl
I love these annual April 1 videos. I tune in each year! 😂
Congrats Smallwood! Keep up the great work!
In my freshman year of high school around 1978 (USA), I had a teacher from Germany who taught one of my favorite classes of my schooling career, "Our European Heritage". He maintained that Robin Hood was a mostly mythological character, based on an amalgam of the more than one person and on the attitudes of the peasantry of the day.
A German would say that because there is a pathological jealousy of English people that manifests through constant snide and negative crap,to sum up how the continent thinks of Britain u only have to think of American, they are jealous of English speaking people
Karl, you are marvelous 👏🏻😃
That's a long time to wait for an April Fool's joke!
Great job🎉🎉, Karl.
August 2022 - Damn, the backlog is insane.
I believe that Robin Hood is a legendary character who was the embodiment of traits that the common people of medieval England wanted (nay, needed) to be real.
I love the inclusion of scenes from the series "Robin" - the best adaptation imho.
August of 2022? Wow
Yea I caught that too! In 2022 Simon was the host & Karl was still a writer!
Another April Fools, I guess.
Lovin' that Final Fantasy 8 artwork in the background Karl 👌😊
You got me, I was sure it was all a myth but you caused me to doubt myself. Well done mate! :)
Yes, you did more than just a good job! I wasn't sure about you at first, but I must say, you have won me over!
I can't believe I fell for this 2 years in a row
I liked the twist at the end of this video. Because i know all of these Robin Hood myths and the various "archeological" studies into whether he ever existed.
And the whole video i was thinking, " he's saying all this like it really happened...? this is strange for a Biographics' video...? they're usually pretty good with the facts..." 😂
Congratulations sir! 🎉
Congratulations on making it and still being around!
Not gonna lie, you almost had me. This was really well done.
Congrats Karl. Keep hosting please.
I like this host. Adding humor into anything helps. Even if it’s just a minor joke. Great show.
You should do a video on Fulke Fitzwarin, arguably the person Robin Hood was based on. Was gentry until King John denied his inheritance and then proceeded to be an outlaw robbing primarily King John until John finally caved in desperate need to have people fight on his side during the uprising that lead to Magna Carta.
Congrats on doing a good job, Karl!
One of these years, the April Fool’s biographic will be Simon Whistler, the supreme emperor and god-king of CZcams. Bonus points for the man himself making a brief return to read the script himself.
You should do an episode on Anne Frank.
Hahaha!! You got me!!! I was just about to write a comment asking where you got all this crap from!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Love today's episode lol 😆
Damn you got me. I forgot this came out on april first.
I even thought to myself when i started the video that i thought robin hood wasn't a real person, but convinced myself you were going to tell the true version of what has become the myth.
Because i assumed that something had to inspire the story at some point.
"Sorry. I'm a Yorkshire man." I hate to tell ya, bud, but we already figured that out. Nice Buffy nemsis call-back, though.
Congratulations Karl! Yay you're still at it! And I was "this is bollocks" all the way through so glad it is April Fool's Day!
Love the April fools fictional/mythical/folklore character bios. Still waiting for one on Richard Sharpe though lol. I mean Wellesley wouldn’t have won a single battle in his lifetime if it weren’t for Sharpe hahah
Karl, You do a great job and they need to keep you as the host. Easier to watch you than the man with the glowing dome.
Congratulations, Smallwood!!
Damn you man....I believed him to be mythical. But the presentation was excellent...😂
Congrats Cal!
Congratulations, Karl!
Congrats!!
At least this was a good summation of the story I was told as a child in the Fifties.
A bit later it was "Davy, Davy Crockett, king of the wild frontier". He was a civil disobedient as well but ended up in Government.
Gonna be honest, I didn't know Karl still did videos.
Congrats Karl!
The thumbnail isn’t AI generated, unless the AI just took a still from the 1938 film “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and slapped it on a background.
What I learned about Robin Hood, I got from the 1970's Mel Brooks' 📺 show: When Things Were Rotten. 😀😄😄😄☘️🍀
Congrats Buddy
Congratulations, you done good 😊
Ooda lolly you got me
Ya done good Karl, ya done good.
An odd version but my favourite version of Robin Hood is Sean Connery's movie. It's made when Robin was an elderly gentleman and had become a monk.
Biographics: Robin hood: history's most celebrated outlaw
Me remembering the King Arthur prank: mmmhmmm😒
Yes.......!!!..... awesome!!!!😮
Robin Hood = outlaw = thief/murderer/survivor.
None of which = good guy or hero but anti-hero hell yes
I watch this video on April 1st of 2024 so if you're so recording videos, you're doing a damn good job
Thanks.
I am a great admiar of Robin Hood and so are my family👪

Karl Smallwood: Interim Host of Biographics, Primary Host of My Heart
If you didn't actually say you're a Yorkshireman we probably wouldn't have been able to guess lol
Hehe came down here to make the same comment.
Congratulations
I hear they also wore tight tights
Haha, fantastic, definitely worked on me!
Congrats for lasting till April 1st, regardless of leaving us all Hood-winked. 😉 Jolly bit of tomfoolery, me lad!
Grew up on James Herriot. Great channel
Every time Karl says intern host I worry that he might be replaced mid video by some deepfake
Congratulations Smallwood
As far as I am concerned, Errol Flynn IS Robin Hood, or Robin Of Loxley, Claude Rains is Prince John, Basil Rathbone is Guy Of Gisbourne, Melville Cooper is the Evil Sheriff Of Nottingham, Alan Hale Sr. is Little John and Olivia De Havilland is Maid Marian. But then, "The Adventures of Robin Hood" is, by far, the best movie about the myth. Happy April Fools Day y'all.
Happy April fools day karl! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations Karl
Congratulations 👏 👏 😊
