Hungry (usually) I think come from a generation where parents insisted that everything on a plate was eaten even if you said "Mum dad I am full I cant eat anymore". Now I have trouble not leaving an empty plate even if I feel stuffed
me too--"Then eat to keep from getting hungry; there are children starving in China.. . ." I wonder when I stuffed myself, if it helped the starving children in China. . . . .
The book "30 Days to Stop Overeating" by Harper Daniels takes an interesting mindfulness approach. Weight loss can be very psychological, tied to stress etc.
I started overeating after my husband and daughter died... Which caused me to suffer a couple of heart attacks from the stress and shock....and then I even suffered a couple of more heart attacks a year later! Causing me to be forced to live a sedentary lifestyle all while also suffering from extreme depression, loneliness, and boredom! To be perfectly honest I couldn't actually find a good reason not to until my weight affected my health in a way that became actually painful enough that it even registered to me enough to even be noticed through all of the emotional pain! It's really hard to feel motivated to improve one's health while also feeling suicidal at the same time! However I do hate all forms of pain ...both physical and mental...and overeating didn't actually cure my emotional pain...but did cause worsening physical pain!
When I was losing weight, I did calorie count for almost 2 years and it was really hard. The good thing about it is it established my discipline with food. And of course, being consistent. When I was at the gym, I met a friend and he introduced me to keto diet. I've been doing this for 3 weeks and I've seen a lot of changes already. Now, I only eat once a day and not feel really hungry throughout the day. I'm also starting to appreciate black coffee. It's what I drink for breakfast (or green/black tea). So happy I found this channel. I'm learning a lot! Thanks doc! 👌
I also am not hungry in the morning. I am doing three things. Low carb, 18/6 intermittent fasting, and "apple cider vinegar with the mother" morning and night. I have noticed that if I'm hungry before I drink the ACV, shortly after drinking it I am not. And when I wake up I am not. I eat two small meals and drink an Adkins shake as a snack during the six hour window from 10am to 4pm and then the fast begins.
Since I stopped eating breakfast in the morning, I started to be more anxious about food and think about it all day, I gained wight, and I had several episodes of binges later on.. I don’t know if there is something wrong with me but this is really what happened! (And yes I don’t feel hungry in the morning which make no sense!! 🤯🙄💔)
I'm definitely guilty of rewarding food. I once did go to the gym everyday for 4 months and ate whatever I wanted because "I was doing so much sport" ....I gained about 8 Kilo of fat 🤦♀️
I remember that I was thin as a child and of course, like most parents did back then would say, "eat all your food, their are starving children in Africa". So I would answer with "can you send my food to them". My Mom would get so upset with me, but so did my stomach.😊
I Think family culture is one to consider if you are a miner or rely on another person to supply your food/drinks, you may not have many options on your daily food/drink intake. There is a culture in many families to eat large meals around the table, largely made of fried, high carb, processed foods and sugary drinks, even if one is not hungry you are expected to eat, as you do not want to upset the cook. Educational limits on healthy food prep, limited access to healthy food and budget restrains. Thanks for another informative well delivered Video looking forward to the next as well as revisiting the old to refresh the grey matter.
Definitely Fiona! This is definitely a really important part of people's relationships with food! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting too! :)
I naturally don't want to eat until lunch time, and never knew I was 'fasting' until I came across your channel. I am one week into the keto diet and still fast from about 8pm until 12pm the next day. Great channel, I love all the information!
Man...I feel like so many of those points apply to me. I am making small changes though...meditation is becoming my “go to coping mechanism” for stress. Rather than eating. :) Great video as always Dan.
The fact that you can acknowledge this to yourself is awesome. I'm not saying this to sound patronising, I've experienced talking to some people who can't be honest about their eating and can't understand why they're overweight despite their food choices haven't always been good. In my past I have found myself in a dark place where I started to comfort eat. I had to loose 25 kilos. It wasn't easy but it really was worth it. I went on to be a cycle courier when I lived in London. I think you're awesome, hang in there.
Hi Dan. You say 'Christmas is seen as a gluttonous time' and this may be true for some people. It's also true that during Ramadan, the season of fasting, is also commonly accompanied by over-eating before, during and after it.
I tried drinking water instead of eating. Many times it was just thurst confused for hunger and some other times, it delay the hunger feeling for some half to one hour which is gteat when trying to change the body''s chlonological hunger timing. Also great help at getting into intermittent fasting.
Thanks for all your videos, I started a low carb diet in May, and not loose weight, but due to you I started intermittent fasting. I started to loose, I am nearly 78 and still work two days a week, I was extremely dizzy and lightheaded one mid morning, so I had a little to eat, so have decided to have my old breakfast of bacon and eggs the two I work, and yes I do feel better. My fasts are approximately 18 hours, this from the woman who could never fast for Yom Kippur!!!
On the issue of sleep deprivation. When you are sleep deprived you are feeling low energy, and so you are likely not feeling so hot and not having energy is because of lack of food(so the brain tells us) And so we eat and food that gives a quick pick me up like a donut and coffee or a muffin seems like a great choice. Also sugar is harmless 😝😝😝 so we say. I believe that there are hormones involved.
I fast sometimes. What I'd like to know is, why can I sometimes go for 60-70 hours without food and yet some other days I can only fast until lunchtime?
Not hungry. I'm definitely part of the "clean plate club". A few years ago I was flabbergasted when I was walking through the candy aisle at Walmart and it finally hit me that, who knows when, good food became more expensive than terrible stuff. I distinctly remember that, as a kid, candy was a rare treat because we couldn't afford it. When did the changeover occur!? If anyone knows, relay the info to me, and we can go beat up the "man behind the curtain".
I just "discovered" your youtubes yesterday, Dr. Dan, and already I know you are on my increasingly growing list of people to "go to" for encouragement and information related to achieving and maintaining good health by reducing the carbs and sugars as one of the important elements in reaching this goal. Thank you and All the Best from Western Canada!
Thank you Dr Dan, Not usually hungry first thing in the morning. Try to have 2 glasses of water first then a celery juice or two, and don't eat till lunchtime when I get hungry, about 2 or 3 p.m. I'm desperately trying to lose weight, but not doing very well. Protein from nuts, tofu, and greens - same as cows and horses, monkeys and giraffes etc. Looking forward to your newsletter. From Annetta in Australia. Cheers.
I fast from 1-1:30 pm until 8 am the next day. Despite this, I (age 67) do not feel hungry when I arise. Hunger only kicks in after I exercise in the morning on an empty stomach.
Since I moved out of my parents house a few years ago I started eating when I felt like, not when the food 'was served' for the family. I remember during my school days I'd never skip a single breakfast, either cereal, oatmeal or sandwiches. Right now? I rarely eat before 11/12 am
Since starting carb dodging, I’ve recognised I’m actually very rarely hungry in the mornings! And when I do eventually eat (usually around 11am), I tend to go for protein, or whatever my body’s craving, rather than eating typical ‘breakfast’ foods. Thanks for the informative video Dan!
In the US we have back to back Thanksgiving and Xmas follow up with New Years dinner, then about 3 mos we have Easter Oh don't forget Super bowl parties, then Bar b que season begins with memorial day and 4th of July, then comes Labor day and Halloween. The cycle starts all over again. Hoping after 68 years the Keto lifestyle will help to break the cycle.
Since I switched my diet to Ketosis, I did not have breakfast as I always did. And I also feel less hungry and I am a bit surprise because I need less sleep as well.
I love your videos, Dan. I live in an area of deprivation surrounded by lots of people with obesity/metabolic illness. And yet our local GP - while really very good in many ways - still has no idea about nutrition and diet, which would be the one thing that would improve the health of his patients. Why is that GPs are so resistant to the stuff you are saying, all of which is borne out by my own experience of failed diets and eventual weight loss on keto/IF? How can we change their minds?
One of the best explanations for obesity, this should be taught in schools. Only criticism is the hungry/not hungry idea for the comments. I like to scroll comments where there are many good points of discussion rather than a whole list of not hungry comments.
Not hungry mostly of the days. The more I eat late at night, the more hungry I feel in the next morning. Does it make any sense? Now I'm doing intermittent fasting. My last meal is around 8pm, since I started I'm not hungry at all.
That's what I'm doing the 18/6 intermittent fasting. No breakfast, eat lunch at 1 pm and dinner 6-7 in the evening. Works great. No hunger at all in the morning. Might have a stomach growl or two at 10am but it goes away. I don't really have hunger
The book "30 Days to Stop Overeating" by Harper Daniels takes an interesting mindfulness approach. Weight loss can be very psychological, tied to stress etc.
Not hungry. Have not eaten breakfast for about five years. If I have a carb rich meal in the evening, I occasionally have a little morning hunger but it's easy to ignore and disappears after a cup of coffee with a little cream.
am 45. never ever could i swallow any food in the morning. even as a child when mom forced us kids have toast and milk or tea, i just couldn't . (but the extra sweet coffee and sodas i couldn't skip once i started smoking, make up and exceed the puny extra calories a toast and tea would have give me lol) EDIT: on food addiction; sugar cravings are real. also i always used to munch on something at all times, and since i stopped smoking, it got worse, am always looking for something to chew, you can say that i eat out of nothing better to do. Am not being fat, never been, but i realized there's a "dad belly" trying to pop out and over my abs, so i started exercise and try find a healthy diet i could follow.
Have recently discovered your videos and have found them very interesting and informative. Hadn't really thought too much before about the carbohydrate-insulin effect on preventing fat burning. Have tried to really watch my carb intake over the past week and it has made a real impact on my weight loss. I like your no-nonsense, plain speaking presentation. Thanks.
Not hungry, 70yrs old and have coffee with a level tsp of coffeemate, and water during the day, break my fast between 6&12pm only 4 week’s keto and doing well, lost 12 lbs, 😊
I used to not eat breakfast as a teen and could get away with it. However, once I started working retail, I passed out three times when I was new 😅 I used to eat breakfast five years ago up until maybe two years ago. Now I fast until maybe 9am when I genuinely start feeling my stomach eating itself. My schedule has changed. I eat more before bed so maybe that’s it. But sometimes I try to fast for around 14 hours after working out in the evenings. I try to nibble on protein if needed.
Depending on the last time I eat, depends on if I’m hungry in the morning or not. If I don’t eat for at least three hours or more before bed time, then I’m hungry in the morning. If I eat too close to bedtime, then I’m not hungry in the morning… I guess depends on the last time you eat as well.
I wake up hungry. I always want food when I wake up. Since switching to low carb, this meal has been the hardest for me because I would always have coffee with sugary creamer and bread in some form (bagel, toast, or croissant).
Not hungry. I remember being forced to eat breakfast as a child when I wasn’t hungry, as it’s the most important meal of the day. The food never stayed down for long.
Not hungry, but force fed when I was a kid. Now, I'm overweight and relearning how to listen to my body and eat when I'm actually hungry and stop when I'm not hungry. It has proven to be very tricky for me. This overeating also caused chronic reflux. I just figured out how to combat that too. Yay!
it is the most important meal of the day, but not for the reason people think. when you have it is irrelevant, but how you break your fast is very important.
Hey the last two descriptions on the list of addiction behaviors actually can apply to overeating too! All addiction problems are actually linked to a mentality that is founded in excuses and denials leading to inappropriate justifications for lacks of responsability in specific iindividual choices leading to an inaccurate belief system that perpetuates the behaviors through the reinforcement of those false beliefs! (Namely a distorted perception of the actual pleasure to pain ratio!)The best way to overcome an addict mentality is to just be totally brutally honest with one's self... paying special attention to being totally honest about how one's feelings about one's self are actually being affected by both the beliefs and behaviors! I used to counsel drug addicts on how to get back control of their lives and themselves through their own personal perceptions! Most important is to find a motivational reason to stop that outweighs the desires (addictions) of whatever substance or behavior a person is struggling with!
Not usually hungry in the morning, but depends on how late at night I ate, & how well I slept. Ironically, if I stop eating by 7pm, I am less hungry the next day 🤔
Not Hungry, Never have been hungry in the morning...my whole life. I’ve been fighting the “norm” and “food pyramid” forever. Trained and certified Personal Trainer and have always been baffled by the nutrition courses I’ve had to take. Called bs (bologna sandwiches) decades ago...so glad my normal go to is now solidified and verified as GOOD! I feel validated now that I’m in my mid forties 😂
I got onto low carb by listening to Carl Denninger with regards to economics and politics. He's and engineer, entrepreneur type and extremely bright....but he did some research on this very topic coming at it from the same perspective as most of us. Follow what he government says to eat, exercise and get fat. WTF? Well, I went low carb and his advice and since doing so, I don't eat breakfast simply because I am not hungry. its that simple. I travel for work, all the hotels have free breakfast....I don't go down for it or, I'll join my colleagues and have coffee only. I have ZERO urge to eat till about noon. I've also lost 16Kg and am still falling...over 4 years and not dieting, not exercising, just by changing what I eat. Cheers, jim
Just recently subbed and am catching up on some of your videos. Glad you avoid the desire to add long musical intros, and other eye catching gimmicks etc. Refreshing.
Thanks Gary. I try to make my videos as concise as possible, and without unnecessary distraction. I'm sure you'll see that i've failed with that a few times the more you watch! Thanks for subscribing.
Not hungry in the morning. It is definitely the least important meal in the day. Apparently the body gives us all a shot of cortisol and neo-glucose to get us going. "Dawn Effect". I usually fast till 15:00hrs, easiest part of the day to fast.
Not hungry. Add to emotional eating: boredom. I am retired on disability largely (heh) due to obesity. Despite the marvels of modern communication with internet and entertainment, the walls do close in a bit. The boredom makes it much harder to resist when the cravings come.
Not hungry in the morning, used to force myself to eat breakfast, not any more on keto and I.F. Interestingly there was an over abundance of cake at work today and initially I thought I wanted some but when I “listened” to my body I realised I wasn’t actually hungry and it really wasn’t worth kicking myself out of ketosis just for a piece of cake.
Dr Dan Maggs thank you. I’ve also realised that I might have been insulin resistant and maybe even pre diabetic because I’m drinking lots more water and pre-keto I needed to go to the loo way more often. It’s also seriously reduced my arthritis pain and inflammation. I have an amazing GP, when I asked her about doing keto she said, “go for it, it’s how we should be eating.” And she also told me about intermittent fasting and how she’d been to a seminar with Michael Moseley. Thank you for your videos too, they’ve been very informative and inspiring.
Oh dear. One of the reasons I like staying at a hotel or good B&B is the "full English/Scottish/Northumberland /etc breakfast " whether I'm hungry or not. Yum
Mostly hungry. You can hit me up with kippers and toast any morning, followed by a whole pot of tea with more toast and marmalade. Food is an important part of my life.
Dr. Dan : I would like to talk about hydration . I find I am not thirsty to often, and it has been this way for me for MANY yr ! I find I can go 3-4 days on just 1 glass of water . But I have been told that proper hydration is very important , so I FORCE myself to drink water daily ! What do You recommend for me ? And no, I do not eat junk food ! I am even fasting I would think this should increase my thirst, but it does not Mike
not hungry... never hungry in am... when i started drinking keto coffee this is the most i ever had for breakfast and sometimes i can't consume this in morning it's just few times a week
I don't eat breakfast. I haven't eaten breakfast since 2013. I'm 24y old now at 2020. Through the day I only eat twice, a normal lunch (Dal, Fish curry, Rice) and a light Dinner ( Roti, Sabji). I weigh 65 Kgs.
I wake up 4 am in the morning and start working. So by the time It is 7 am I am desperately hungry and need food. Now not sure if that is real hunger or food craving due to sleep deprivation. Go to bed at 10:30 and cannot sleep beyond 4am 😌😌
There's one thing I never see on diet videos but is a particular problem with my generation. My parents survived the Great Depression when food was scarce or too expensive. I was taught to clean my plate and not waste food. Coming from a large family we always loaded up the plate to make sure we weren't going to be the ones who didn't get enough. Today I still can't throw away food on my plate unless I absolutely can not eat anymore.
Seems I'm the minority. Keto since April forcing IF practice and still hungry in the morning. I've moved my eating window to accommodate and stop eating for the day at 5pm
I eat breakfast most of the time because I know I may not have time to eat later when I am hungry. I have not eaten breakfast in the morning and not get hungry till 2:00 in the afternoon. I’m a stay at home mom and a lot of times that’s my busiest time of day. I have no set times that I eat. Is that bad?
Then there’s the million reasons to celebrate like, “It’s Friday, I’ll pick up a pizza on way home. No, wait, I’ll get two!😋 Oh and ice cream!!!🍦 Yeah happy Friday night to me!!!”
Hungry (usually) I think come from a generation where parents insisted that everything on a plate was eaten even if you said "Mum dad I am full I cant eat anymore". Now I have trouble not leaving an empty plate even if I feel stuffed
me too--"Then eat to keep from getting hungry; there are children starving in China.. . ." I wonder when I stuffed myself, if it helped the starving children in China. . . . .
@@patcomly9886 I used to ask my Mom if she would ship my food to China.
Yes!!!! I was just thinking about this. I think this is my issue at the root
Not hungry.
In fact, I get a bit angry with some family members when they try to force me to eat while I can't even look at the food.
My stupid family makes me overeat, cause they stress me out so much.

I’m truly hungry in the morning. I’m never hungry in the evening though. I prefer to eat my last meal of the day by 4 or 5.
This video really makes you think introspectively. Great video Dan!
Thanks.
Thanks Rosa! What a lovely message. So glad you're seeing results! :)
Not hungry, 70yrs old and have coffee with a level tsp of coffeemate, and water during the day, break my fast between 6&12pm only 4 week’s keto and doing well, lost 12 lbs, 😊
Dr Dan
You are just brilliant. You don't faff about. You get straight to the point. Thank you.
When I’m actually in a calorie deficit I’m definitely hungry in the morning, but if not I usually eat too much in the evening so it carries over
I used to not eat breakfast as a teen and could get away with it. However, once I started working retail, I passed out three times when I was new 😅
I used to eat breakfast five years ago up until maybe two years ago. Now I fast until maybe 9am when I genuinely start feeling my stomach eating itself.
My schedule has changed. I eat more before bed so maybe that’s it.
But sometimes I try to fast for around 14 hours after working out in the evenings. I try to nibble on protein if needed.
Not hungry since I started practicing OMAD and became keto adapted. Before that I used be hungry in the morning.
Makes a big difference doesn't it?
Only another fad crash diet.
I f you eat lots at night, you won't eat much till after lunch, duh!
@@reglook1 Who eats at night?
@@KatieZeldin lots and lots of people, I know many myself, It's very common.
Yay!
Breakfast the least important meal of the day, currently on OMAD
I sometimes am hungry some days and other days I can go without breakfast
it is the most important meal of the day, but not for the reason people think. when you have it is irrelevant, but how you break your fast is very important.
Ironically, if I stop eating by 7pm, I am less hungry the next day 🤔
Funny how it works like that isn't it? Thanks for watching Laurel!
Cheers,
jim
Just recently subbed and am catching up on some of your videos. Glad you avoid the desire to add long musical intros, and other eye catching gimmicks etc. Refreshing.
Thanks Gary. I try to make my videos as concise as possible, and without unnecessary distraction. I'm sure you'll see that i've failed with that a few times the more you watch! Thanks for subscribing.
Dr Dan Maggs but no way over the top. The vids are reinforcing what I’ve learned. 👍
Yep, boredom definitely should be in there! Thanks Terry! :)
Not hungry till about 1pm if I exercise in the mornings. However a lazy morning or sitting at a computer and I feel really hungry by about 10.30!
Well done Laura. You looked into the face of temptation and said no! Awesome!
Laura Morrison - love that your GP is enlightened to this. So many are not still!
Not hungry! Black coffee and I’m good to go 😇 my overeating issues are more mindless snacking during the day or in the evening ☹️
Not Hungry in the mornings.so I do not eat until hungry. It has helped to loose 11lbs in 3 months.
Well done! That's fantastic! :)
Hungry about 3 or 4 hrs after I get up in the morning. But I have to have my coffee when I get up.
I wouldn't bother waking if it were not for food
You are awesome, I am loving your content
Nice one Dr Dan, I like the cut of you jib, you have a perfect way of explaining stuff, keep it up. 👍
Unsure if I'm hungry in the morning. I crave coffee, which has cream, therefore calories, but I don't usually want to eat anything.
It depends. If I’m working in the morning then I do need my breakfast. If I don’t, there is no force that will make me eat anything before 12.00.
COuld have said more about Leptin and other hormones affecting satiation and hunger
Nice informative content!🎉
Sometimes, usually not until 1:00
Still eat before then for false hunger
I am the cook for the family. It gets very tempting
Dr. Dan :
I would like to talk about hydration .
I am even fasting
I would think this should increase my thirst, but it does not
Mike
Enjoyable and interesting. Covered the subject comprehensively
Thanks Jim!
Never eaten breakfast. Being on keto for almost three years, and intermittent fast regularly. Normally have my first meal at 1pm onwards
peckish by about 11.30 am, not really hungry, can go on after a big mug of coffee or ACV
Never hungry, eat through the night, poor sleeper. Bad habit, wish I could change.
Joan McKee you are enough. It does not matter when you eat. Its what you eat.
not hungry... never hungry in am... when i started drinking keto coffee this is the most i ever had for breakfast and sometimes i can't consume this in morning it's just few times a week
Spot on nothing but the truth we’ll spoken
Not hungry in the morning. I generally don’t want to eat until 11 or noon.
First time watching this you tube video
I don't eat breakfast. I haven't eaten breakfast since 2013. I'm 24y old now at 2020. Through the day I only eat twice, a normal lunch (Dal, Fish curry, Rice) and a light Dinner ( Roti, Sabji). I weigh 65 Kgs.
I wake up 4 am in the morning and start working. So by the time It is 7 am I am desperately hungry and need food. Now not sure if that is real hunger or food craving due to sleep deprivation. Go to bed at 10:30 and cannot sleep beyond 4am 😌😌
Very helpful video thank you
There's one thing I never see on diet videos but is a particular problem with my generation.
I am not hungry in the morning. I need like 2-3 hrs before feeling the need to eat
Seems I'm the minority. Keto since April forcing IF practice and still hungry in the morning. I've moved my eating window to accommodate and stop eating for the day at 5pm
Yes definitely seems you’re in the minority but definitely not alone!
Doc. Doc. Doc. Please learn from dr. Paul saladino. Also plant paradox.
Absolutely fantastic video! Just subbed :)
Yay! Great to have you on board!
Not hungry, on the occasion I have had breakfast at breakfast time....I’ve felt extreme nausea not long after!
Not hungry since I found lchf and intermittent fasting
How much vegetables or fiber should we eat a day? I am following a low carb High fat protein diet + intermittent fasting
I goal is keep my bodyfat at 15.
Thank you for your videos. I have only just started following you. What is the best Keto diet to follow please?
Then there’s the million reasons to celebrate like, “It’s Friday, I’ll pick up a pizza on way home. No, wait, I’ll get two!😋 Oh and ice cream!!!🍦 Yeah happy Friday night to me!!!”
