You still see these dotted about the place but are not as often as they once were and are looking quite sad by this stage. I have a used example which must have been used somewhere undercover as it in really good nick. One of my favourite small floods.

I've been lucky in that the examples that I acquired didn't have scabby bodywork (the ally one needed repainting, but nothing more), because, as you say, most of the GRP examples that are still out there are quite rough by now. Similarly, out of the low wattage SON floodlights out there, this is a favourite of mine too.

I think that they also sold these in the US because Thorn EMI Lighting had a US division.

Yes, there has been one for sale on US eBay for a considerably long time - if the postage to Britain were not extortionate, I'd be tempted to buy it, just to see how it compared.

@@StreetLightOnline It is also interesting how it comes with a GE 70w eliptical HPS (SON) lamp, and not a Thorn tubular one. It is probably down to the fact that we use different arc voltage HPS ballasts here.

Yeah; I spotted that - I wondered if it was because of Thorn selling off its lamp division to GE, but this was in the early 1990s, whereas Thorn EMI existed until 1987, so it was probably more of a sign of things to come - possibly, because of the different operating characteristics, as you say.
