    • Plastic Welding. Repai...
This is a common fault in the X100 cars and many other Jaguars. Fortunately its caused not by a complete breakage of any particullar component, but by the metal clips becoming dislodged and no longer acting on the plastic cam that forms part of the vanity mirror cover. This video is also useful if your vanity lights no longer turn on when the flap is raised, as youu can see the working of the switch mechanism, and how to access the lamps and therefore replace them.
Additionally I got a Gorilla pod for christmas!!

John, Very nice repair job! When my convertible top wouldn't go back up, I put it up manually. Then I couldn't get the rear windows to go up and you were the first one I looked to for help on how to get the rear window to go back up. I believe it was you that told me how to trip the micro limit switch so I could raise the rear windows back up. You also explained how to take the car off valet mode. You have great tips. Thank you!....Bruce

When I did the same job about 15 years ago on both my XK8 sunvisors I simply filled the little gap with epoxy resin and pushed the metal clip back in. I reckon that's a bit easier and less likely to go wrong than plastic welding. All these years later and the visors are still fine. 🙂

I've used 3d printer filement (PLA) to do similar repairs on the seat control housing. You can usually find samples are available for little or no cost.

    Hello John,
I had a flappy visor mirror when I bought her 7 years ago, I fixed it with some epoxy glue and it's still going strong.
Thanks for all of your help and videos, I hope you have a wonderful 2023 .
    Kind regards,
    Jon

Hi John, thanks a lot for the video, I did it today as you showed and it worked like a charm!
Would you consider doing a video about fixing the auto-dimming rear view mirror to extract the liquid and eliminating the "sunset in Mexico City" effect?
Thanks again and I wish you a great 2023!

Great suggestion, but Fortunately or unfortunately dependant on your point of view, I dont have an auto dimming mirror.

I recently bought a cheapo tempreature regulated soldering station. (50€). Plastic and foam welding are now a breeze as soon as one figures out the right temperature setting. No more burning marks and very controlled melting. For your next x-mas whishlist perhaps?

I would imagine a Hot Glue gun would work instead of the soldering iron method.
