Man…I love seeing old school craftsmanship. Thanks for taking the time to show your craft!
Oh, you are so welcome! I really appreciate you taking the time to write me a very nice comment. Thanks for watching!
What kind of material are you cutting out that makes the stiffness in the sunvisor is that a plastic?
I have a 1989 Corvette and the two sunvisors are not very well so I’m thinking of rebuilding them or buying rebuilt ones what is your suggestion?
@@willardhawkinberry6018 Hi! It is called chipboard which can be bought from upholstery suppliers. Thank you for watching!
@@willardhawkinberry6018 Hi! I guess either making them or buying new ones would work either way! You can challenge yourself by making them, or if money is not a factor, you can buy some aftermarket. Thanks for watching!
This guy seems like a professional/expert.
Thanks, just sharing my 42 years of experience.
Seems like???
Between you and Cechaflo, I'm going to be ok! I'm not a professional, but I'm getting good results on my car interior. I figured for the price of a used machine and some good old-fashioned succeeding and failure, I'd be ok! Thank you very much for doing this video. I will be making my sun visors very soon!
Hello Alfonso, Thank you for all your kind words! I am sure you will do fine. Please keep watching!
Alfonso said it all. We both are going to do fine with our upholstery projects. Thank you Richard. And thanks for your reply to me today. It meant so much to me. Fred.
"We want to cut nice and straight...if we don't, we'll cut crooked...and we don't want that!" 😂😂😂😂
Hello David, So true, so true... Please keep liking and watching!
I first saw your driver's seat repair and now an EXCELLENT job on the sunvisor! You make it look so easy. I will take your advice by getting extra inches added to block the sun better across the bottom edge. You are the man Rudolph. Thank you.
Hi Larry! WHen I make the visors for my personal vehicles, I do add more. Especailly because my wife is shorter and the sun is always in her eyes. Thanks for the kind words and please keep watching
Haha me too
you are a super badass! Thank you for sharing your tips and techniques!
Hello Laurette, You are welcome! I appreciate your compliment. I am happy to share. Please keep liking and watching!
Thanks for another lesson from the master. The old visors from the Trans Am are just cardboard, they will be re-done with chip board. I just replaced the window in a canvas top, I looked for a video from your channel but didn't see one. I took my time since I only had one chance to get it right and smiled when I headed around the last turn and headed down the home stretch. What a teacher you are, professor. Thank you for being an inspiration.
Hello Don, You are so welcome! I love hearing good news like this. It does take courage to dive into something and see it to the end. Just keep going, you can do this over and over again! Thanks for liking and watching!
Love watching someone who knows what they are doing work! I work with a group of girls who only mask campers for paint. It doesnt sound exciting but they make it look so easy.

Thank you!
Hello Tom, Your so welcome! Thanks for hanging in there with me. Please keep liking and watching!

Hello Mark, Thank you so much for all of your kind words! Please keep watching!
Thank you
You are so very welcome!
Thank you for this tutorial!! I have to reupholster my sun visors and didn't know how to start.
I hope this has been helpful! Thanks for watching
My sun visors have mirrors. How do I tackle that part?
@@monkeeladee8638 That depends on the design of the mirror. Some are simply laid in like in this video. Others have to be disassembled by opening the clamshell-type plastic visors.. Once you start to pull things apart it should become apparent how the rest comes apart. You can do it!
Great Job, quality! Better than GM !
So glad you liked it! I hope you can use the info!
Great job,but what if you don't want the stitch to be visible? I'd like to recover my visors so that they look like the original ones. REVOLUTION!!
Hello Peter, Thank you so much! If you don't want a stitch, you can just use contact adhesive glue, not the stuff in the spray can. The stitching will keep things tighter though. Please keep watching!
This is very helpful...I am going to do my 76 FJ40 visors using this method. Do you have any videos on making covers for vintage headrest? Thanks!
Hello Tim, Sorry to day that I do not have a headrest video. I think you will do just fine with your FJ40 sun visors. Please keep liking and watching!
Good job

Hello Mark, Thank you so much! Please keep watching!
@Old School Auto Upholstery Techniques was going to make a Joke but didn't think we had that kind of back and forth yet lol. I've watched a lot of your videos. I've done a few repairs myself using your video as a guide. I hand sew the repair which is time consuming. Thanks for the content
Great job!!! I've watched several videos on how to do this, but your way is so much simpler and cleaner than all those other videos!! LOL, I did an old truck's visors as they were hanging down falling apart in my face. They look terrible, but they weren't in my face anymore!! !! LOL But after watching this, I think I can redo them and make them look decent! A big thanks!!!! Question, what walking foot machine are you using? Looks nice, and you do such a great job with it.
Hello Billy, Thank you so much! I use a Juki machine. You can also make them sewless by just glueing the two halves together. Pleae keep liking and watching!
My Nan always says sheers for fabric scissors for everything else
Hello Acid, That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for watching!
When you fold it over if you use a wood dowel rod it gives you surface to roll it over or use your existing wires screen makes it easier to Ben hoefer your scores
Hello Zack, Thanks for the cool tip! Thanks for watching!
Question sir, how do the illuminated vanity mirrors that some cars have (like my 78 Cadillac Coupe deVille has) how do they come off, separate from the visor? Good video
Hello Edgar, Thank you so much for saying so! Usually for visors with lighted mirrors, I just start prying to see how things come apart. It's that easy. Please keep liking and watching!
Just realized that if the backside is flush all around after you glue the material down & fold it over that it can be glued instead of stitched. Just have to use some really good glue so it doesn't separate down the road.
Hello Peter, You got that right exactly! Make sure to use contact adhesive. Thanks for watching!
Your video really helped me ...thank you so much....but you didn't list your products and where to buy? Where can I buy the foam board that I will use as a pattern? That information would really help. Love your channel.
Hello Cecilia, I get my materials from the same supplier for 43 years. Keyston Bros. They have several locations in the USA and they ship! Sorry, no Amazon links and nothing sponsored here, I pay for everything. Please keep liking and watching!
Man I been watching your videos religiously this weekend I'm a beginner here have u ever worked on lowrider car upholstery? Can you do some of those tutorials PLEASE haha

great technique skill set! Looks good! Now where do I send my visors and what do you charge?
Thank you! I think any local competent upholsterer in your area can do this. Check their reviews and be sure to read the one-star reviews first...
Hi, loved the video. I’m going to redo my husbands truck visors. Can I do this with a regular sewing machine? If so what type of needles do I need. and what foot ? thinking walking foot? Thanks
Hello Crafty, Thank you so much! I think if your machine lift is high enough for the thick visor to fit under, not sure about the needles as I never use a home machine. A walking foot is always helpful. Please keep liking and watching!
Great job! My question is the material you got from Lowe's ramboard/ floor protection board?
Hi, I did not get it from Lowes. I saw something similar at Lowes. I buy chipboard from an upholstery supplier. Thank you!
What are you using for an adhesive? Looks like it works great! I just started reupholstering for something new to learn and I’ve been having troubles find a decent adhesive for fabrics.
Hello George, I only use contact adhesive on everything. Most reliable. Thanks for watching!
