    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Once more as part of our training I want to share one way to do French stitches by using a single needle sewing machine.
    I want to stand out how useful the templates are to get a neat and precise cover. The technique of making templates is taught in our basic courses. The procedures are the same for simple and complex car seats.
    The pieces in this sample are foamed with a 1/4" of an inch foam. As we know as a general rule the vinyl should be basted to the foam by pasting 'points of glue' all along the edges. But, there are a few exceptions when it is advisable to glue down the whole area of the panel. I mean in case of 'concave areas' to avoid a fluffy vinyl on it.
    The idea is the application of a soft spraying glue. Just one thin coat and let it dry well.
    Be careful! Do not apply excessive glue! Just a thin coat to shape the concave area.
    If we apply excessive glue it would make creases very difficult to erase. This issue happens when we need to fold the panel for some reason.
    Once again my recommendation is the use of attachments to improve and make our sewing process easier and more enjoyable.
    If you carefully watch this video you will find several tips included in.
    As mentioned above this is only a sample in half. The other side is the same.
    I hope you find some inspiration to create your own upholstery projects!
    Cesar

      Thanks so much again for such a kind comment!
      Interesting commentary. In fact, for concave areas the foam and vinyl should be over the foam base to take the same shape. Otherwise, a frustration of wrinkles would appear. The same procedure should be done if no foam is added. Regularly this technique could be applied on boat seats or some sports seats.

    what kind of paper do you use for template? is there a kind that bends or works better than another? also, is everything a 1cm seam allowance ?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před rokem +1

      I have used cardstock paper to make the templates. In fact this cardboard is useful for flat surfaces, but it can also be used for irregular (bulky) surfaces doing some cuts. This process is shown in our basic course.
      Stretch vinyl is also useful for flat and irregular shapes. For instance, I used the method in this video:czcams.com/video/UR0Sx1DhZJA/video.html
      I mostly use the metric system for my upholstery projects. The 1/2" of an inch seam allownace size is alright too. For some works I use 8 mm or 5 mm seam allowance if it is necessary.

    What is the general purpose of adding the foam padded material underneath the vinyl? Also, for stitching the edges of the pieces prior to sewing them together? Thank you

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před rokem +2

      Some cars come upholstered this way. It helps to erase irregularities adding a kind of 'body' to the surface. It behaves like a 'lining' those expensive pants have.
      The first sewing is done at a distance of 8 mm. The final sewing is done at a distance of 10 mm. The first sewing helps to flatten the edge making the final sewing easier.
      In some upholstery shops an overlock sewing machine is used to flatten the edges instead.

      Thank you so much for the reply. I understand the foam helps to pad or disguise the seam underneath and how the initial stitching can help align and flatten the seam. Thank you for all your videos, they are very informative

      Hello friend, You need to look for an industrial sewing machine in your country.
      I am located in Mexico.
      The machine I show is a Pfaff 1245-706. It can be a different trademark: Juki, Consew, Adler, Brother, etc. To do upholstery you need a triple transport sewing machine.

    Work is great, but a question....it seems the cushioning is worn out, is it customary to build a new cushion as well or like with most businesses...customers call?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It is only a sample. It is not for any car. You can see this same old cushion on several educational videos. That's what I had at hand for the demonstrations.

    What is he really using to stick the leather to the foam please?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před rokem +1

      There are exceptions when we attach vinyl or leather to foam material. It is the case of concave surfaces like this one of the video. It helps to keep the concave shape.
      This other sample shows the same technique: czcams.com/video/xxEBaHlH-4w/video.html

    А если центральную часть кроить так, чтобы растяжение было как и на боковине?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před rokem +1

      It can be with only one junction in the center. If the vinyl and backing foam is cut and placed in the right position no problem.

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Před rokem +1

      A 18=110 needle size and 92 thread size for the blind closing sewing. A thicker needle 10=22 needle size and 138 thread size for the double sewing on top view.
