The story behind the murder song.
Aurora wrote this song after reading about a "murder" in the newspaper near her homeland. A man killed his wife/girlfriend out of love. She was seriously ill and suffered more every day. He released her from suffering.
The song is sung from the perspective of the woman's ghost. Maybe he killed her with her consent (I hope so) or he made the decision on his own.
You will only find this explanation of this song in one interview with her (unfortunately I don't have a link to the interview and I can't find it anymore). It's not written anywhere else. And usually she doesn't explain her songs that specifically either, because she wants everyone to find their own story in them.
She usually only says to the song it is a true tragic love story that doesn't end well.
It should be said that this News was an inspiration for this song. That doesn't have to mean that the song itself is about it. But since it all fits together, I think so. Of course, it is written in such a way that many interpretations are possible. Just like Aurora actually always does.
To the countdown. Some people say the "killer" is counting down. On the contrary, the song is sung by the victim all the time. For me that means that she counts down herself and than her boyfriend pulls the trigger.
And she knows that he knows that he kills her for mercy. That means they both know. Sounds like an agreement.
The camera is removing because its soul is also removing. She is on her way to the hereafter.

Really enjoyed your reaction! AURORA is the first singer/songwriter to capture my attention in a long time -- she's so unique and versatile! And she comes up with such great lyrics! So far you've reacted to her earliest releases. Going forward, I highly recommend the music videos for THE SEED and WINTER BIRD, as well as some of her live performances. Just about anything from the Nidarosdomen concert (the entire concert is great: I personally especially like THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD, LUCKY, IT HAPPENED QUIET, LITTLE BOY IN THE GRASS, WALKING ON THE AIR, and her cover of LIFE ON MARS)! Then there are her high-energy performances of ALL IS SOFT INSIDE and CHURCHYARD from the 2018 KEXP concert! Also the HAIK concert she performed in a forest: INFECTIONS OF A DIFFERENT KIND, THE SEED, and DAYDREAMER! And the 2020 'Somewhere Else' concert: with the best ever rocked-up version of RUNNING WITH THE WOLVES!

    Love your reaction 👍
Aurora is like no one else, it’s like she lives through her music.
The way she moves is actually what she does in her live performances too.
When she sings live, she goes into another mind, like a transe.
And when she’s finishing a song she usually shakes her head to get out of it
And after for example a concert, she almost can’t breathe, it’s like she’s having a panic attack 😔
Because it drains her so much because of the way she lives through every song ❤️
    Love from Norway 🇳🇴

Her live performance of Runaway early in her career at the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize concert is the stuff of legends. She never desired to be a recording artist. She wrote and sang music for years for herself to help her process things she experienced or saw others experience and her family didn't even know she was doing it. She is very private and did not like to be around people much. She has said she was somewhat terrified about performing at that concert and yet she rise above it and slayed all three songs! That says volumes about her commitment to her art! She has since developed a love of performing live because she see so much beauty in people in spite of their pain. She is healer of souls that sees the beauty in all human experience including the knarly stuff no none wants to deal with. Much respect!

@@jeffmalloy8200 I completely agree, that whole concert was just magical. The only thing that comes close to it, in my opinion, is her concert in the woods for HAIK.
She always gets lost in her music, but at the Nobel Peace Prize concert, I feel like she retreated into the music much further than normal to deal with how nervous she was. I'm still spellbound every time I watch it.

Since I'm a photographer, I love you analysis of her videos. In my mind, her videos are art in themselves, and it is incredibly interesting to hear that you give of your knowledge and experience in analyzing these.

I don't know why, but it makes me so happy that you realised they were moths and not butterflies.
You are only the second person I've seen notice that.
Aurora loves moths, they are usually not liked due to their perceived connection to darkness, death etc. My guess is she felt drawn to them as she has said multiple times she felt quite outcast as a child. Different, not normal.

I was almost beside myself when I saw you were going to watch this. She's one of my favourite artists and this is my favourite song of hers. I think that her character has the mentality of someone who has been groomed to be a victim of a narcissistic psychopath. Literally brainwashed to see him as her saviour. Like a woman with battered wife syndrome. It's so powerful. She's a magnificent story teller.

I thought I recognized the song title even though I don't listen to the artist, and it turns out I was right because this song was used in an episode of Flash. That was really interesting - to have you analyse (mostly) visually and on her "acting" or "embracing" the main character of her song. I really enjoyed this.
Regarding her use of vowels - this is a classical Norse/Scandinavian technique (when singers sing in our languages). Traditionally, we have massive freedom to artistically reshape the vowels for poetic/musical/emotional effects. And several Nordic singers brings that across also when singing English lyrics (Bjørk is a famous example). Remember, linguistically we Scandinavians love our vowels so much that we throw Æ, Ø and Å into the alphabet, with a lot more going on phonetically.
I am so used to this being used in Scandinavian singing (vowel transformation) that I can forget that it must sound "interesting" for native English speakers/people who obviously can not know when this is done with Scandinavian lyrics.
Oh - a good pick for you would be NRK production of her Nidarosdomen concert (live). Here is her opening act (Nature boy) where the NRK staff introduce the setting and the reality of the harp and the string orchestra and Aurora entering the stage of the largest cathedral in Northern Europe. czcams.com/video/-DNpFmwvtuw/video.html&ab_channel=Warriors%26Weirdos in relatively warm lighting. Later in the concert - as during lucky it is faded into moon-light blue on "Lucky" and bloody red during "Murder-song" (you would have a field day analysing this concert - (and I would have a field day listening to you). But as I think about it, you may hold back on that for a later time where after you have focused on her songs one by one - before an entire concert. Also because she re-arranged her songs for string orchestra, harp, male choir and church organ - so her songs are "reshaped". It makes it even more awesome when one know their "original intent" and production.

I don't think she was trying to "Justify" anything in the song. Coyote told you a bit about what sparked the song. And even though it can be interpreted many ways by different people, my mind always does go to a place of someone putting someone terminally ill out of their misery and the person wanting it to happen. I mean she says he is holding her in his arms and crying, which to me means it is painful for him to have done this, but he did it because she was suffering and wanted to be free from it. Also, I disagree about the vowel sounds. I do think it has much to do with her accent. She is always such a great performer and story teller. Aurora embodies the songs with her whole body, which is amazing to watch and experience. Hope you will continue to do more. Winter Bird and The Seed are good choices for videos. For a live you could try "Soulless creatures" live in Bergen 2020 or "Infections of a different kind" live at Haik (or "Warrior" live at Haik)
