- Learn more about the iPad Pro in our full review at Pocketnow: /2015/11/25/ipad-pro-review (Full description below)
When we reviewed the iPad Pro last month, we did so in a vacuum. Apple's supersized tablet had beaten its accessories to our front door, so we reviewed only the device itself, reasoning that there were some people who would buy it for its built-in attributes alone. While it's a fine product, with a huge screen that makes it especially good for media consumption, the iPad Pro still feels hollow without something more.
Fortunately for iPad Pro buyers, "something more" is just $99 away in the form of the Apple Pencil. The supersized stylus packs a built-in battery and Bluetooth radio into its glossy white fuselage, and it unlocks a whole new dimension of the tablet experience. The Apple Pencil is to the iPad Pro what 3D Touch is to the iPhone 6S: a feature that's easy to dismiss as a mere gimmick - until you pick it up and use it.
Join us as we take you from unboxing to note-taking to our best approximation of artwork in the above video, a guided tour of the Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro!

Anyone else want to hear this guy narrate a TV show/Movie/Audiobook? His voice sounds perfect for a 40’s crime drama.
I removed the rubber finger rests found on some regular pens you may have and found they fit fine over the bottom of the pencil like the one you see is green on a pen in this video and it made the pencil feel great and no longer rolls off a table! Took two of them off pens faced them in opposing directions on the pencil for even more surface comfort. Plus I found the magnets on the inside of my iPad cover attract the end of the pencil and hold it in place!
OK folks, don't knock people who want to use the iPencil. This is actually extremely useful for someone who has had a stroke and whose writing hand is paralyzed. Just because YOU don't have a use for it, please do not assume it is not a wonderful thing for someone else!
tellic
I agree 4 sure
This is my situation, and converting my handwriting to text is what I’ve needed for years
Just had a stroke and those who have not had one-simply DO NOT UNDERSTAND. Thanks for bringing this up.
Yes and it’s also perfect for online schooling and writing notes bight recommend👍👍✅✅

Damn Michael, you're a really good artist.
Fantastic review, blows the verge and all the rest right out of the water. "Fridge-worthy" cracked me up too. Keep up the good work!
That Titanic drawing is Awesome Michael!!!
People are being too dramatic about charging the Pencil, it takes like 15 seconds to charge it for 30 minuets of use, it's not a big deal.
I try the doesn't work
Gloriaf20 I doubt you have a Apple Pencil.
That’ll be for Mozart composing 30 tunes for the dance floor then?
Lashae 12 hours** But idk
Lashae I left it for like 10-20 minutes and it was fully charged
I completely appreciate your humor. Thank you, thank you very much.
nice review. someone that actually took time to actually put use to the "pencil" in their review.
LOVE the Apple Pencil with my 7th gen iPad. I was using a $25 knockoff from Amazon which worked pretty well, but getting more into artwork And design this pencil is a must have! Just got it this afternoon and am already impressed. Thanks for the quick video - I hadn’t even looked in to realize the charger adapter was in it!
Michael does loves to show off! Haha, that titanic was amazing to be frank! 😁
Wow! Thanks for the video. It really helped me learn about the stylus pen I got. thx!
I just received my iPad Pro 10.5", smart keyboard, and pencil and all I can say is WOW !! The thing is amazing. I was hesitant about both the pencil and the keyboard. I can type on the keyboard almost as good as my MacBook Pro, a little tighter and the only trouble I have at all is the far left side of the keyboard; I'm sure that will work out though. The real treat is the pencil. I am totally amazed at how well it works. I've had a half dozen different kinds of pen/pencils and have returned them all but this one is mine and I love it. GREAT TOOLS from Apple !! Thanks Apple.
Most people who haven't been through the hassle for finding a perfect digital pen/active stylus for iPads cannot appreciate what Apple offers with the Pencil. Honestly I think it's great and well-priced, with the only problems being the charging mechanics and no backward compatibility. Bottom line is if I were to rank how overpriced the three new products are (iPad Pro, Smart Keyboard, Apple Pencil), the Pencil definitely comes 3rd.
I own an Adonit Jot Pro, Wacom Fineline 2 and Pencil by 53. Considering the two active ones, besides palm-rejection (which fails sometimes), Fineline 2 offers pressure sensitivity and Pencil by 53 offers tilt, and they both cost around $50-60. Apple Pencil (I love Pencil by 53 so I did get disappointed with Apple using this name though) comes with all palm-rejection, pressure sensitivity and tilt, and all with much better precision and consistency. I think the $99 price tag isn't bad; the one overpriced is the iPad Pro itself, which is the main reason why I won't be getting an Apple Pencil: I'm sticking with my Air 2.
It seems like the only people ragging on the iPad Pro and the Pencil are people who don't need either of them and don't even understand why anyone would need them.
Karlovia so the pencil doesn’t work with iPad air2 ?
Try the other version, the shipper one, is on the model of the iPad Air two but it works like an iPad Pro. It only 300 dollars
That Titanic drawing is awesome!
Unfortunately it sank after the drawing
thanks I just got this for my bday and I love it im a big artist myself but ive never got a pen thiss cool + I can use it on my I pad :p
I love the diction in his reviews!😄
Excellent video again bud👏🏽👏🏽

micheal, your drawing deserves more credit than u gave it. its awesome!
He was Humble-Bragging.
Thank You, this is really helpful!
Good demo. Thanks
Who cares about the review, MICHEAL, YOU'RE AN ARTIST!!!
Very cool! Using it to write this comment and I love it! Feels great in the hand, but the autocorrect is strange when drawing text. Pretty cool, love it!
That drawing of the Titanic was really, really good. Well Done Michael.
Love your voice. So nice and smooths!
Awesome titanic!!!
They have some pretty awesome cases for it that latches onto your case via magnets or stretch bands.
I just ordered the stuff for my ipad, and I didnt notice that my case comes with a apple pencil holder.i didnt even get that specific case for the holder but it will be nice to have!
Thank you this was really helpful
Really helpful video. Thank-you!
Nice review. Thank you.
You forgot to mention that the full charge only take 15 seconds for a constant drawing for 30 minutes...
Thanks for the information 😊👍🏻
Fridge worthy titanic 😂😂 this is beyond hilarious thanks for review. Despite your review...now I want one lol
The main draw for the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil as a photographer is to show images on that massive screen to potential clients. That alone makes the massive screen worth it. And my camera bag can fit a laptop and an iPad, so it would be easy to carry around with me. Also, I always wanted to start drawing... I guess I could do that too on the iPad Pro...
Nice video, I thought you would cover pairing the pencil to the iPad ? You are pretty good at sketching.
Didn't know you were that creative, 👍 for the drawing alone
I just feel like karate chopping the pencil when its charging.
You forgot the period at the end of your sentence.
😂
+GrammerNazi G You forgot how to spell grammar.
***** It's an unfortunate typo.
+GrammerNazi G OMG, you exist!
This Titanic looks awesome!
I cant even doodle a face. A simple face! 😂
Good Job Michael
Same
Same
That was surprisingly a good sketch
3:28 I got a iPad pro for Christmas and my dad brought me a case for it it has a holder to put the apple pencil in there for storage its really great buy it
He "doodles" the titanic like its nothing and I'm sitting here with my horrible looking tree. smh
ikr
Tree? Stick man here
I cant even draw I stick figure right..
+丅Ꭵtαη stick figure I still stuck on a circle
+DaBro 25 *I'm
Now this question is very important to me. Is there auto recognition of written text in this thing like in note 7? I am especially interested in recognition of Japanese hieroglyphs.
If our bottom part of the hand touches the screen then will the ipad read it and print it on the screen as well?
Informative video.
Nice review 👍
Damn that quick titanic sketch though.... Nice job!
Nice review
Thank you for covering what the blue tooth connectivity is for. -_-
going to be studying Japanese at university soon, do you think the pencils a good buy to practice the handwriting side of things and so forth?
Would like to k ow how to change tips and see the actual charge it process, I have no clue!
Do the iPad penci or pen works only iPad Pro Or it works in both of them iPad 2017 or iPad Pro? I want to buy!! Thank you buddy for your help and support!
nice artwork with the titanic
I love it but the tip is so hard, always wonder if it might scratch the glass, so getting protector.
I just wanted to watch if there is any features to it since im getting both (the i pad and the pencil)
let's take a moment to appreciate his doodling skills
Embarrassing charge it in the public lol that was funny Michael fisher, I really like his review :)
Awesome drawing
Thank you for sharing!!
Nicely done.
one like for the review and a thousand for the drawing talent.
Is there a way that you have to use the pencil to modify documents and use on the web ? Because I can only get it to work in notes
Any experience on the pencil scratching the screen? Do you use a screen protector?
man, this guy knows how to draw
K kisi Ş is is is is eee eee de valla keeee
True
I didn’t know u need to charge it but u are leaning I will get that on my birthday on June yay
you are an artist
Cool... Really loving it.
Thanks cool video it’s also awesome if you need to write down things fast and keep a note as doc
I bought a nice leather ipad case on Etsy that has a pencil sleeve built-in, but it would be nice if Apple gave you a clip or something to attach the pencil directly to the ipad and/or cover.
When charging the apple pencil all you need to do is turn it upside down so that the pencil faces upward and not towards you so you can use it while it's charging.
How do you know its fully charged and how much time does it take to charge?
Hi thanks for your video! I have iPad Air 1 - will this pencil work for me ?
You got a new subscriber !!!!!
Ty for helping!
I have always supported the original pen in the past, but after recently purchasing YEBOS as a backup pen, I found that it is basically the same as the Apple Pencil!
Amazing review as always Michael. Wow
Can't wait for the iphone 7 with pencil support!!
He is a great artist
I'm getting it in a few hours
I was on the screen where the iPad showed the battery percentage and the pencil battery percentage. Where can I find that app?
How bout that drawing tho Fisher, pretty awesome.
Daughter so wants one of these...
Great job, thanks
Good work......thank you,
What program are you using to draw with it? I can't seem to find it.
PLEASE DO AUDIO BOOKS.... I would so sit and listen to you read. 😂😂
Does the Apple pen work on a iPad, sorry if that's a dumb question I just don't know if it's only for the iPad pro
I've read that the pencil can get enough charge for an hour after 15 seconds of charging, so that makes it a little better.
Great help, thank you
How do you get to the screen at 1:27 ? I’m new to the Apple Pencil and don’t know how to use it so I wanna know how to charge it
Squiddi95 don’t know if you figured it out of not, but you edit widgets on the leftmost screen and add “batteries”. :)
I'M SUPER HAPPY!!!!!!! IN APRIL 2 I WILL GET THE PENCIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
wow your drawing is so good
could you hold your hand on the screen while using with the pencil?
That titanic drawing looked great, in my opinion!
That Titanic was really impressive. Well done.
Thank you for the video. Am planning to buy ipad pro,
do i have to put screen protector on ipad pro before using pencil?
Will there be any difference wrt writing after putting screen protector?
+Shengzhi Wang™ thank you
When Microsoft Charges for an accessory. "It would be a good product if Microsoft added the accessory with the device". When Apple Charges for an accessory. " How much does it cost? $$$ oh well it's Apple, I'll take two!"
loll true
+Witcherworks Regardless of the moving goalposts for Apple, I still would've preferred not paying the extra $130 for the Type Cover for my Surface Pro 2 back then and my Surface Pro 4 now.
gameshoes That logic still can not apply to what Apple is doing. I didn't want to pay either but it still did not destroy how amazing the product was and still is. Apple is spiting in the faces of all! Not only by charging for something mediocre at best but charging more!
is this really true though? people say this all the time but I have a lot of trouble finding it true. sure people who buy an iOS device generally are settling for less, but Apple definitely gets its fair amount of shit for their accessories, which is probably why so many Apple users stick to third party accessories.
Reyaan Shah Are you serious? Look at the social media. That will tell you that a Bias is most certainly there. Look at reviews for a Surface vs a iPad Pro. They mention the keyboard about 4 times in a surface video vs one time in the iPad. A surface will loose a star or % because of the keyboard but iPad gets no down grade for the same reason?
Can we use Apple Pencil on iPad Pro for real life kind of sketching and drawing?
I think you should stress how the pencil is for mark making not just a "surrogate finger". For instance it can't access the swipe down feature for notifications.
