In 7th grade I was in honors math so the smart kids were in there and I wanted to leave a good impression. The teacher is strict. So I was called to solve a problem on the white board in my light teal jacket. Black marker. I had to do it twice.. it was embarrassing. My mom was able to get the marker out and we had a good laugh.
I’m a lefty and this was never an issue for me because i guess as a young child I must’ve realized this, but I draw and write with my paper or notebook COMPLETELY sideways! Like 90 degrees to my wrist. I never got ink along my hands. People always ask, “how do you write like that!” And I didn’t even notice until someone pointed it out years ago in middle school. My mind just adapted to fix the hack. I even draw sideways as well!

Over time you get better and thus everything looks a bit nicer. Now.. wouldn’t you be able to take notes whilst typing? Well yes, ofcourse. But I must admit that it makes me remember things better after I’ve physically ‘marked’ it, or have drawn a line under a word. As I said; it’s really gimmicky. But yet I found myself taking a lot of notes on physical paper, yet I always sort-of lost them. I run a business, and there’s tons of minor little details that I ‘have to remember’. Gimmick? Yes Absolute requirement? No Useful, even if at first you though it wasn’t? To me; yes

Just to be clear, was Steve Jobs really talking about a Stylus in the context of a Tablet? I think he’s heavily misquoted on this. He was in fact referring to using a stylus on the Phone and that still holds true today. Remember, back then - there were phones that actually required a stylus as a primary input device and that’s the argument he was making. Even today, the iPad doesn’t require it - its’ an alternative method of input.
Maybe. He still introduced the iPad without a stylus BUT that doesn’t mean he’s change his mind on it. Seeing how at first it was really just an enlarged iPhone for the house, to something you can get work done on later on as the product was growing
I agree...he was talking about stylus as something that let you interact with your phone/tablet. The new kind of styluses like Apple Pencil or S-Pen aren't Needed per se, they just Add to the experience!
I just recently bought the Apple pencil series 1 for my iPad 10.2 7th generation and already can't imagine doing without it. Taking notes for example works really great, compared to writing on paper even better because you can easily erase/correct
Brian Hartman it’s true. You really don’t need it. I used it to do some painting.. but you get tired of that and place the pen in a drawer. Fingers work just fine, like Steve said :)

Just so you know, I saw you using the pencil with your left hand. Lightroom as standard comes with the slider controls on the right hand side, you can change this in setting to 'left handed editing' so the sliders are now on the left which means you're not constantly covering your picture :)
Just to clarify so users understand correct terminology: Highlighting text is different from selecting text. What you did around the 2:10 mark is select text. Highlighting makes something stand out as when we use a neon color to highlight. Selecting, as you did, allows the user to pick out a part of the text they want to work with (copy, underline, cut, etc.)
I’m almost surprised you didn’t mention this since it includes you as well as me, but for me the Apple Pencil has been a really big deal with writing just because I’m a LEFTY! It is so much more comfortable to write on the iPad than in a notebook. No spiral to get in the way, and no smearing. It’s amazing lol.

Andrew Matthews I got one for school. The split view/multitasking on the big screen and the pencil have helped me thru my college classes for the summer
You wont be disappointed. The 12.9 is the perfect size for both desk and lap use. I bought the apple magic keyboard, as most of my use will be at work, and if i need to use at home the on screen keyboard is so easy to use. Will be updating to IPADOS 13 very soon. Love the new features that will make it even easier to use.
Andrew Matthews Yep, similar use case planned on my end. Want to focus on the office mostly and I’ll need the extra screen real estate. Also got the Keyboard and Pencil for good measure and the necessary dongle to help with my presentations (currently using the 10.5”). Been lugging around my 2015 MBP (still love it), but I could use the change in scenery.

I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

I have the apple pencil, but, honestly, the stylus pens are just like the pencils. If you want something like the apple pencil, I recommend you get the JamJake stylus pen because it's pretty much the apple pencil, just with a different charging method and there's no pressure sensitivity. If you are an artist I wouldn't recommend it too much but you can always change the size of your brush in the drawing apps. And the stylus pen is only $30-32. Although I do think the apple pencil is great, my sister uses the stylus cause she doesn't have the pencil but it is also pretty light. But for artists, getting a stylus probs wouldn't be the best choice. If you're an artist you can change the brush size in the apps as I said but I would recommend getting the apple pencil if you're an artist.
I was debating between buying the pencil or buying the keyboard, but this vid helped me with my decision. The keyboard is for writers, the pencil is more for drawers. Since I’m a writer, I’ll be going for the keyboard!
My wife bought our grand daughter one of these. When she told me, I asked my wife, "OK, what does it do?" She explained and I asked, "So, $100 for a stylus?" She said, "Basically". I figured for that amount of money, it better be a heck of a lot more than a simple stylus. So, I asked my 15 year old granddaughter and her explanation wasn't much better. The number one reason i havent used a stylus before is because theyre too clumsy. the fine tip is so nice, and a ipad and apple pen is a perfect alternative to an expensive screened drawing tablet AND and computer.
When Steve said “who wants a stylus?” He meant for phones, not tablets. Plus the Apple Pencil isn’t even really a stylus because it has pressure sensitivity, it connects with Bluetooth, it needs charging etc.
Have an iPad Pro....the Pencil is amazing with art app,adobe Sketch....actually creating watercolor and other medium genres with the pencil instead of a brush ....with pressure sensitivity and great color selection! Also noting,the quality of the speaker on this iPad is terrific❗️

I got a 9.7" iPad Pro in 2018 for uni, and I decided to get an Apple Pencil a couple months in, as I had a maths module and struggled to type equations. I don't regret it, I use it for so many things, drawing diagrams in lectures, and just switching to it when it's easier to write something by hand than it is to type it out. It's not essential for everyone, but for those who feel the need for it, it's brilliant. All my friends, who typically hate Apple, absolutely love my iPad and Pencil and I cant leave them unattended without at least one of them stealing my pencil and drawing something in my notes! 😂
I just wish the Apple Pencils weren't so pricey so I could get one right away if I went out and bought an iPad. Because if I actually had an iPad I would totally get an Apple Pencil. Thanks for the in-depth review of what the Apple Pencil can do, love your content
Gamer Geek they will come down in cost as the newer generation gets created. Apple doesn’t have sales, there is no reduction for holiday. But prices of old devices are cheaper than new. You could also check on apple.com to see if there’s a refurbished one.

i didn’t like iPads because i don’t want to see fingerprints all over it and it just make my fingers tired . but now i am considering it , it look easier to use than fingers . Nice video
Make sure you buy the correct pencil version that works with the model iPad you have. I bought the newest pencil and it didn’t work with my iPad so now I have two apple pencils.
I totally agree, the experience of using the iPad since buying the Apple Pencil is so much better. But they are way over priced for what they are. Considering my new iPad Pro 11 I just bought to upgrade my iPad Pro 9.7 was over a thousand pound, you think the pencil should be included in the box for free.
Apple Pencil is not a stylus, it’s a tool that opens a whole new range of features, like drawing, writing, taking notes, signing a document. No doubt there are other similar devices in the market like Microsoft and Samsung, but the cohesiveness of Apple’s software is unmatched to date.

Never used my pencil much with my 1st gen iPad Pro, but now with the iPad Pro 3-4 gen I use it all the time because its always there attached to my iPad. Honestly can’t live without the pencil with my iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen!

I bought an apple pencil kinda knock off for 25 dollars. It is of good quality and works fine. They really come in handy and are very useful. Taking notes on my ipad made me put away papers. Interacting with it on a screen for nothing else than navigating is fun but not necessary.
I wanna get an Apple Pencil because I like using a Pencil but don’t wanna keep rubbing it out, so I wanna draw on iPad but still be holding a usable Pencil.
I think it’s great because like the signature on a document that someone wants you to sign that will make it a little easier rather that just using your finger

I always have to correct people on what Steve Jobs meant. He was speaking of the Palm Trio’s and Blackberries where you had to use a stylus to us the screen. With iPhones and iPads, your finger is the primary input device and the pencil is a tool that you can use, but not required to use the device.
I have a Mac Pro , and I used my late nan’s inheritance money to buy an iPad With the pen. Bringing the Mac and iPad to school is brilliant. Diagrams can be drawn with the iPad or any drawing and the Mac is great for note taking. The iPad also works for marking up word documents and answering exam questions etc. Apple is very good 😁
RubyRose Adventures , get LumaFusion for video editing on iPad , it runs best on iPad Pro but will work on other iPads, it will also run fine on an iPhone , I have it on my xs max and I just got an iPad Pro 11 , I was using it on a pro 10.5 before that. It’s a pricey app at around 30 dollars, but you buy it once and that’s it , all future updates are free and there are tons of tutorials on CZcams to help figure out how to get the most out of it. The sound effects and royalty free music and sound tracts can be had on a monthly subscription that’s 9.99 or you can do a one time purchase for those also for around 70 I think, all updates to those are no cost with the one time purchase. LumaFusion is a great app for video editing imho! You should look it over and see if it might be what your looking for in a video editor. Oh you do get some free sound effects and music with the app purchase so you may be fine with those, there are also many nice transitions and pre made titles as well, the titles can be changed and even animated as well.
my uncle came down from california and he got a rental car while he was looking for his phone he found a apple pencil and let me keep it idk what to do with it but it’s cool to have😂😂
BTG 239’ , it probably came from the actual car rental company , several of them use iPads with an Apple Pencil to make notes about cars and trucks when they inspect them right before you take them on rental, to note dings and such so there’s no chance it will get blamed on the current person renting that car or truck. That’s a cool find and I’ll bet you could sell it easy to someone who uses an iPad if you don’t. Or you could just get an iPad to go with it, lol.

I honestly do wanna take my notes on my iPad, but don’t wanna ruin my eyes at the same time. It’s better to spend 3-6 hours a day just looking at something that isn’t a screen.

@Noah Herman My dude, I noticed you’re left handed and are still using Lightroom with the default UI layout. Lightroom has an option you can turn on to flip the layout of the UI for left-handed people.

Even as a law student with terrible handwriting I still find the pencil invaluable for highlighting and annotating cases.

If you are an artist I wouldn't recommend it too much but you can always change the size of your brush in the drawing apps. And the stylus pen is only $30-32. Although I do think the apple pencil is great, my sister uses the stylus cause she doesn't have the pencil but it is also pretty light. But for artists, getting a stylus probs wouldn't be the best choice. If you're an artist you can change the brush size in the apps as I said but I would recommend getting the apple pencil if you're an artist.

I was debating between buying the pencil or buying the keyboard, but this vid helped me with my decision. The keyboard is for writers, the pencil is more for drawers. Since I’m a writer, I’ll be going for the keyboard!

My wife bought our grand daughter one of these. When she told me, I asked my wife, "OK, what does it do?" She explained and I asked, "So, $100 for a stylus?" She said, "Basically".
I figured for that amount of money, it better be a heck of a lot more than a simple stylus. So, I asked my 15 year old granddaughter and her explanation wasn't much better.

The number one reason i havent used a stylus before is because theyre too clumsy. the fine tip is so nice, and a ipad and apple pen is a perfect alternative to an expensive screened drawing tablet AND and computer.
When Steve said “who wants a stylus?” He meant for phones, not tablets. Plus the Apple Pencil isn’t even really a stylus because it has pressure sensitivity, it connects with Bluetooth, it needs charging etc.

Have an iPad Pro....the Pencil is amazing with art app,adobe Sketch....actually creating watercolor and other medium genres with the pencil instead of a brush ....with pressure sensitivity and great color selection!

I got a 9.7" iPad Pro in 2018 for uni, and I decided to get an Apple Pencil a couple months in, as I had a maths module and struggled to type equations. I don't regret it, I use it for so many things, drawing diagrams in lectures, and just switching to it when it's easier to write something by hand than it is to type it out. It's not essential for everyone, but for those who feel the need for it, it's brilliant. All my friends, who typically hate Apple, absolutely love my iPad and Pencil and I cant leave them unattended without at least one of them stealing my pencil and drawing something in my notes! 😂

Gamer Geek they will come down in cost as the newer generation gets created. Apple doesn’t have sales, there is no reduction for holiday. But prices of old devices are cheaper than new. You could also check on apple.com to see if there’s a refurbished one.

A cheaper alternative could be the Adonit Dash 3, we did a video on it and really liked it.
Make sure you buy the correct pencil version that works with the model iPad you have. I bought the newest pencil and it didn’t work with my iPad so now I have two apple pencils.

I totally agree, the experience of using the iPad since buying the Apple Pencil is so much better. But they are way over priced for what they are. Considering my new iPad Pro 11 I just bought to upgrade my iPad Pro 9.7 was over a thousand pound, you think the pencil should be included in the box for free.

I think the Logitech has a place in this mix, particularly for those who don't need the added capabilities of the Apple pens for creating art.

Never used my pencil much with my 1st gen iPad Pro, but now with the iPad Pro 3-4 gen I use it all the time because its always there attached to my iPad. Honestly can’t live without the pencil with my iPad Pro 12.9 4th gen!

I bought an apple pencil kinda knock off for 25 dollars. It is of good quality and works fine. They really come in handy and are very useful. Taking notes on my ipad made me put away papers. Interacting with it on a screen for nothing else than navigating is fun but not necessary.

I always have to correct people on what Steve Jobs meant. He was speaking of the Palm Trio’s and Blackberries where you had to use a stylus to us the screen. With iPhones and iPads, your finger is the primary input device and the pencil is a tool that you can use, but not required to use the device.
I have a Mac Pro , and I used my late nan’s inheritance money to buy an iPad With the pen. Bringing the Mac and iPad to school is brilliant. Diagrams can be drawn with the iPad or any drawing and the Mac is great for note taking.
The iPad also works for marking up word documents and answering exam questions etc. Apple is very good 😁

RubyRose Adventures , get LumaFusion for video editing on iPad , it runs best on iPad Pro but will work on other iPads, it will also run fine on an iPhone , I have it on my xs max and I just got an iPad Pro 11 , I was using it on a pro 10.5 before that. It’s a pricey app at around 30 dollars, but you buy it once and that’s it , all future updates are free and there are tons of tutorials on CZcams to help figure out how to get the most out of it. The sound effects and royalty free music and sound tracts can be had on a monthly subscription that’s 9.99 or you can do a one time purchase for those also for around 70 I think, all updates to those are no cost with the one time purchase. LumaFusion is a great app for video editing imho! You should look it over and see if it might be what your looking for in a video editor. Oh you do get some free sound effects and music with the app purchase so you may be fine with those, there are also many nice transitions and pre made titles as well, the titles can be changed and even animated as well.

BTG 239’ , it probably came from the actual car rental company , several of them use iPads with an Apple Pencil to make notes about cars and trucks when they inspect them right before you take them on rental, to note dings and such so there’s no chance it will get blamed on the current person renting that car or truck. That’s a cool find and I’ll bet you could sell it easy to someone who uses an iPad if you don’t. Or you could just get an iPad to go with it, lol.

I bought the IPad Air 2019 in January with the Keyboard for studying. Hopefully going to Uni in September if everything works out and I’m thinking about investing in the Apple Pencil. This video helped with my decision to go ahead with that.
@Noah Herman My dude, I noticed you’re left handed and are still using Lightroom with the default UI layout. Lightroom has an option you can turn on to flip the layout of the UI for left-handed people.
