My Ruby Cascade leaves look the same way when they’re young. They start out looking variegated as turn green as they mature. Peps may be my favorite genus, thanks for sharing your knowledge! 💕
Great Video! I have one peperomia. Don't know what kind. I am enjoying it though. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am enjoying watching your videos.
Thank you so much for putting this together! My peperomias are the least happy of all my plants and I've been struggling to figure out their deal. This video is really helpful.
They can be fussy because they differ in care across the genus so much! It definitely took a while to figure these guys out and I’m still dealing with drama now and then 😅 Thanks for watching!!
Very good information. Thanks, I only have one pep and I've been waiting for growth for months... Now I know , thanks to your video, that they are dormant in summer and grow in fall and winter 🌱🍃🌿
My first time seeing any of your videos and I’m already a subscriber. Loved the info. I’m new to houseplants and have about twenty so far. I’m a fan of peperomias and have 3 so far but I love all the ones you’ve shared here.
Awesome Peperomia collections and very informative video Pam, I do love some Peperomias but it's not easy to find here, bought one in the shop the seller said it's a Peperomia I went home and found out it's a Pilea 😂 but I do have a Variegated obtusifolia and hope and a one 2 inch long string of turtles 😁 so hopefully next spring I will be looking for some gorgeous Peperomia 😍 Thanks for sharing I really learned a lot from you 👍💚🌿

I really enjoyed your vid + Nick shout out. I know he loves the peps. I saw many in your video that I now want. Oooh I covet so many of them. The propagation looks fascinating. Am trying to prop an eden rosso at the moment. Here is my pep ramble. The good Graveolens - on window sill with succulents. No probs. Good plant - pretty. Grows up and out. Polybotrya - Had for a month. On window sill. So far so good. Seems to be in coconut coir or something. Too scared to repot. Caperata green/red + Moonlight. All really easy and stunning Jellie - no probs - hasn't grown a lot. Scandens - the variegated one just fab. I have it is high light as I thought it was a succulent. Has grown well, but thinking of moving it to medium after your vid since it can take it. The green one is good too. Diamond - (on label) no idea if this is a puteolata or what. Gorgeous whatever it is. Had two weeks only, but it's growing. Prostrata - turtles - Only had for a couple of months. It's growing, but not as fast as string of hearts. Looks delicate to me, but a fascinating plant. I also have a piper I really like. Drinks a lot more water than peperomia. Took me a while to figure out the light situations, but now it's going gangbusters. The not-so good. Rosso - I love the look of it and the textured leaves. Shallow roots. Mine died from root rot, as it was sold in a massive wet plastic pot. Have another now - doing OK in clay, but not red underneath (different type?) Piccolo banda - It didn't like low light like the label said and died back a bit. Put in kitchen and it's growing back. Like Rosso, find the leaves (stalks) too tender/prone to rot. Don't have high hopes. Columella - the most fascinating leaves. Succulent. Killed it in a week or two. It was my first pep. Have never see one since. If anyone got to the end of this - I commend you. It was Pam's enthusiasm (and research) that made me do it.
Hahaha I love this breakdown! I actually just purchased a column one yesterday... now I'm scared! I've tried a few times to itemize all my plants and it always overwhelms me, maybe I should do it genus by genus! Thanks for watching and taking the time to tell us about all these peps.
This was really great thank you. I've started collecting pepperomias I love them a s needed some info on proper care. I have a happy bean that is thriving is it a true pepperomia it looks nothing like the ones I've seen.
Thank you so much for the watering tips. Especially with the ruby cascade. It’s been hard to find much info about them...hopefully now that I know to water it more often it’ll start getting more leaves 😬
Love love LOVE peperomias and loved this pep talk! I have 15 (13 species) and another coming in the mail right now... My biggest pride and joy is my pereskiifolia. My mum grew it from a cutting in the early 80s. Definitely recommend that one for everyone collecting peps.

You have quite a lot of good peperomias in hour hands. I only have peperomia water melon, Cupid, scandens, peperomia hope and Peperomia piccolo. I once had peperomia ruby, capirata and ripple but sadly died. I’m hoping in spring time I can add more and get new one of those that died. Such a lot of peperomia types and they are so pretty. Thank you for sharing your lovely peperomia collection .
I didn't use to like them, but I have a pepperspot which just reaches toward the sun and I love it so much, every time I shake it it drops leaves, but it grows so many new ones I figure it's just natural selection! I didn't know they grew more in winter, but that makes sense! At least we have some plants to keep us going through the sad months! 🤗
The only peperomia I have is one I thought was a succulent, peperomia graveolens. Your tips seem good for it as it has a really thick stem and leaves, and I basically treat it like a succulent and it loves it.
@@PamsPrettyPlants LOL totally here too and I am being pulled to go buy more. I need a plant fix after the two week computer wreck I have just been through. All due to internet providers settings in my router and them refusing to help. BIG time oh so so sorry. Has left me mentally exhausted. I think this requires more plants. HA But do I just drive 44 miles or go the full on 90 miles?? Will walmart or home depot have enough plants to choose from or has it all gone to Christmas??? I think i see a couple empty spaces on my shelves I can add a plant or three. Hahahaha as always I so enjoy your videos. Thank you!
@@PamsPrettyPlants HOLY COW!!!! Wish I could do a plant haul video. No equipment or know how to do so. I went crazy in town. Local grocery no plants I could afford. Went next door and a whole rack of 6.99 6 inch and 2.99 4 inch plants. I now have four Peperomia. A Ginny and Obtusifolia Variegated and Pixie Lime Variegated. Can not find my other one right now to name it. Hahahah Imagine that. Also bought a Teddy Bear vine plant, need to look that up. It is a gorgeous kind of chocolate color fuzzy leaves and hanging which is good I have room for hanging. Also a Sweedish Ivy, hanging. And a Marbel Queen Pathos. I did not have one and Love them. Then Syngonium white Butterfly. I bought two of the 2.99 of them and will plant in the same larger pot. Same for the two Hawaiian Pathos. They looked sad but I already watered them. eaves on them the size of my hand. All for a $50.00 bill with change back. I am sure this will be the last time I will be able to find and buy plants until spring. Probably a good thing. Hahahaha No saucers or cover pots on the hanging plants so need to take them to the sink. No biggie. Also found three lovely cigar boxes to do some wood burning on for my ,whispering, witchie stuff.
Ahhh this is not good lol just added so many more to my wish list when I already have way too many peperomia! You featured some beautiful ones I haven't seen before. Great vid :)
So awesome also doing the on the ledge pot propagation, the polybotrya is such an easy peperomia to grow and also propagate for me the Ginny has been one I have struggled with for a bit, the Rosso was not one of my favourite either to begin with but it has been a massively prolific grower for me. I am like you love the fact that they are winter growers. Thanks again for this video after my crappy day today this was the silver lining I needed 🙏🏻. Shame about the pixie🧚🏻♀️ would have been great to see yours. Ps the makeup game is on point on this video 💃🏼
I picked up a peperomia purely by accident. Then bought another one and now I have three and a growing wishlist (to which you just added a few peperomias). That peperomia obtusifolia looks wonderful but so far I haven't been able to find it in Germany. On a completely different note and hopefully not offensive. I enjoy watching your videos a lot because you have such a beautiful voice.
Aw thank you! I don’t get that compliment often and appreciate it 🥰 I bought my first one at a grocery store because it was cute, now I can’t stop and got another today 😂 Thanks for watching!!
I just got a Pilea Peperomioides, a Peperomia Verticillata Red Log, a Variegated Bear Claw Succulent and a Rhipsalis for about 11$ total for all of them! 😍 Some of the best buys so far!
Great video Pam, so informative. I have a few basic peperomia. I did kill a “Ginny” I gave her too much light and also ignored her. For some reason Ginny and I just didn’t vibe.
I thought I was going to lose my Ginny for a while. I ended up putting her under my t5 lights over summer with my outdoor seedlings and kinda forgetting about her and she made a full recovery while I was preoccupied outside lol
I have had my pepperomia obtusifulia for 4 years now and it is big! When I bought it, it was variegated but reverted back to dark green and it is about 2ft tall, one of my favorite plants
Hi Pam, I have a cutting my daughter gave me of the Peperomia hope, it seems to be a slow grower, at least for me it is. I have the Peperomia ruby cascade, and it's so full and has so many trails, this one just grows like crazy for me. I also have the Peperomia Ruby caperata, the watermelon Peperomia is on my wish list. I have the Peperomia Ginny, it was a rescue from Walmart, it looked really sad but now it's got lots of new leaves and is growing great, love this plant. The Russo is another one on my wish list. Love the Peperomia scandens both the variegated and the green, both on my wish list. I also have the Obtusifolia, such a beautiful deep green, I love mine so much. OMG love that Peperomia quadrangularis, I can only hope that my Home Depot gets some of these or even Lowe's. Thanks so much Pam for sharing a great video, I hope you have an awesome weekend, love you girl, bye for now.
The quadrangularis was such a score! The hope did a lot of growing for me in the later winter and spring so it may catch up soon!! Thanks for watching as always Holly!! I appreciate you!
Considering hanging one of these in my skylight. It is east facing and heavily shaded, even in the winter. I might have to pick up a couple of those adorable vining ones.
Great vid and much appreciated because there's so much out there about these babies that seems confusing. My Peperomia obtusifolia acts totally different from my Caperata. For one, it bushes all over the place LOVES rootbound. It seems to enjoy water from the bottom and not from the top. Obtusifolia trails off like a vine and I have trouble keeping it upright. It's already tipped over twice since June. It also prefers drier conditions than the Caperata and it didn't take well to bottom watering. Weird, huh? I love the fact that you mentioned artificial light because both mine 💚 their grow lights. And I've never once tried to propagate them because I'm way too skeered to even think about that. 😩
Hahaha I promise the propagating is easy! The caperata might have not liked the bottom watering because the roots are so shallow they’re up closer to the top than the bottom. I find the caperata to be fussier than they’re made out to be!
I killed the Rosso and my Ripple is on its last legs. I love scadens. Mine is from Josh's Frogs too and it took off. I also enjoy Obtusifolias. I have three varieties. Thanks for the tips!
@@PamsPrettyPlants Big fan of my incana, it's been growing like crazy! I also have a prostrata that I'm super nervous I'm going to kill with kindness so I try not to hover too much. 😂
Great video. What about a Peperomia verticillata (Red Log)? Is it best to trim them or just let them grow as they may? I try to remember to turn the pot often as it grows up towards the sun. What do you do though if it starts drooping? Thanks for any advice!
Great video! The only peperomia that likes me is my p. Rain Drop. I have her under a grow light and she's growing flowers now. My other pep is the p. Frost and it's losing leaves and is always getting brown edges. I wait to water till he's dry and he has good draining soil with pumice. I moved him from under my grow light but he's still not happy. Wish he'd just tell me what he wants. 🥴🌿💚
I love peperomia!! My Ruby Cascade has the same on the older leaves, but it's def not from too much light. It gets mostly indirect light w/ about an hour of dappled sunlight. So I thought I had the Pep Hope but the stems are red so now I'm not sure. Finally, my variegated obtusifolia, which sat in an east window all summer and grew like crazy, lost most of its variegation w/ the season change. I moved it closer to a south window so it gets more light and it's now in bloom! Do you think the variegation will come back? The new growth so far has been green. Maybe it's some weird hybrid because the root system is huge and it's growth is now slowing, LOL!
I have the pixi lime and it's actually my favorite and do you think I remembered to hold it up and talk about it? Of course not. lol Thanks for watching!!
I wish I could find a raindrop pep in my area nurseries! I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat! I've been looking for one for over a year to add to my collection.
Yes! I’m somewhat new to this info but my pal whose more of an expert told me a very diluted fertilizer once a month in the growing season should do. Peps do better without an over abundance of nutrients.
My peperomia raindrop loves me for some reason. He's in the middle of a room with north and south windows. I've watered him about once since I got him a month ago and he keeps growing!
I just saw a show on helping to give an R value to Windows and that's getting bubble wrap wedding the window with a spray bottle that has a drop or two of dish detergent in it and a drop or two of bleach spray the window and attach the bubble side of the bubble wrap to the window the wet window. Another site said to put the flat side against the window that won't stop drafts that you need tape or something if it's coming through the cracks. I guess if you have clean bubble wrap that's come in packages you could use them. But the video said that it's cheap enough at Walmart I'm going to try it especially the windows in my bedroom I try to let in light but it might have to make sure they're closed so no one sees me and my bedroom. That would give me some protection if I forget to close the drapes
Whoa, lots of new info for me right here! Thanks a bunch! I had no idea their growing season is now! :o So cool! I guess earth is not flat after all and there are plenty of different climates at different times of year..... xD But! You got me bit worried with the cold and draft sensitivity... I have two of them. verticillata, and caperata rosso. Ive been keeping verticillata right on the window sill since start of August. Southeastern window! It didnt complain during summer. i thought id avoid the legginess in that way. And i did! No burnt leafs too. But now its Autumn here, and temperature is about 5°C (40K) but it will probably drop down to minus (20K) so... ive been wondering will it bother them? to stand next to glass? sigh... im kinda out of space. My windows are pretty new, and no drafts, but you still feel the cold radiating from the window surface. hALp! my african violets are also there. xD
Mine definitely don’t love touching or being right against cold glass. I’m having the same space issue!! I’d try and put a thermometer there and see what the temp is over the day and night. If it stays above 50 F you’d prob be ok!
Hey Pam Im not sure if you check older videos for comments, if you do can I ask a question? My raindrop p. has curled leaves, its under a grow light and the bottom 2/3 is perfect, the 1/3 top all the leaves are curled in, any suggestions?
I have one peperomia, the obtusifolia variegata, and I’m not even a huge fan of it 🙈🙈 But I’m watching the vid all the way through because I’m a fan of you..in a creepy CZcams way 😁🤣🤣
I think they just have a bigger learning curve than a lot of plants, and the finer rooted ones like yours tend to suffer a lot of damage if you forget to water or otherwise upset them, but what I love about them is they bounce back!! So you may struggle, but don’t give up! Once you figure out what yours, in your environment, needs, you’ll be fine! Those little frosts love a semi-terrarium setting too. I’m having a lot of luck planting in open terrariums. Just a little extra humidity and water retention goes a long way! Good luck friend!! You got this!
Anyone ever propagate ruby cascade? I've been pretty successful propping every other peperomia I've gotten but this one has been a challenge. I tried burying it horizontally under a thin layer of soil, and sticking it in a moist sphagnum chamber and haven't had success with either method so far.
Hi Pam Since peperomias are winter growers, do you fertilise them fall-winter too? This will be my first winter with mine (apart from one obtusifolia which I've had for years not knowing what is was) so I'm wondering if I should start fertilising them. I assume fall would also be the best time to take cuttings too?
Yes! I meant to talk about this in the video but I’m going to spring a video idea on my friend about exactly this instead, he doesn’t know it yet. His preference is to use a very slow release fertilizer in the early autumn so it’s there if they need it. He said a diluted monthly application would be good too.
I have 2 pepermoias, they've got red leaves, i noticed its been planted (from the nursery) with like a piece of cloth type material.. should i repot and remove it? ive never seen it done with other plants and not sure why its there, seems to be wrapped around the roots in the soil
Love this video! Such great information. You have lots of peperomia I need to add to my collection now haha
Thanks Harli!! I may have gotten another one today 😅💚💚
Is it bad that I stopped watching another CZcams video when I got the notification for this one? Lol. 🤗
I mean I'm probably biased but I'd say no. Nothing bad about that! :)

Thanks for all the information! This genus is so diverse, and sometimes confusing for this reason (for me)
For most of us I think!! Thanks for watching!
Ahhh this is not good lol just added so many more to my wish list when I already have way too many peperomia! You featured some beautiful ones I haven't seen before. Great vid :)
I’m sorry! But also not sorry because they’re all so cool! 😂💚
Love them
So awesome also doing the on the ledge pot propagation, the polybotrya is such an easy peperomia to grow and also propagate for me the Ginny has been one I have struggled with for a bit, the Rosso was not one of my favourite either to begin with but it has been a massively prolific grower for me. I am like you love the fact that they are winter growers. Thanks again for this video after my crappy day today this was the silver lining I needed 🙏🏻. Shame about the pixie🧚🏻♀️ would have been great to see yours. Ps the makeup game is on point on this video 💃🏼
I can’t believe I put the Pixi down after the thumbnail and then forgot it,
It’s my pep pride and joy! 🤦🏻♀️
I’ll have to try a polybotrya prop next!
Thanks for watching!!
I don’t get that compliment often and appreciate it 🥰
I bought my first one at a grocery store because it was cute, now I can’t stop and got another today 😂
Thanks for watching!!
I have only one and it’s the string of turtles love it 😍
That’s on my wishlist!
I just got a Pilea Peperomioides, a Peperomia Verticillata Red Log, a Variegated Bear Claw Succulent and a Rhipsalis for about 11$ total for all of them! 😍 Some of the best buys so far!
You are killing it lately with the good, cheap scores!!
I have been getting into peperomias and the one that not your favorite, I think it’s really cute.🤓
I have had my pepperomia obtusifulia for 4 years now and it is big! When I bought it, it was variegated but reverted back to dark green and it is about 2ft tall, one of my favorite plants
Someone else said theirs did that! That’s wild
@@PamsPrettyPlants every once in a while a new leaf will be variegated but fade back
I just got a pepperomia teardrop at Lowe’s and my first thought was to check Pams videos.
Thank you ❤
Thanks for watching!
Considering hanging one of these in my skylight. It is east facing and heavily shaded, even in the winter. I might have to pick up a couple of those adorable vining ones.
Yesss they’d love it
Great vid and much appreciated because there's so much out there about these babies that seems confusing.
@@PamsPrettyPlants If you ask me fussy is an apt word to describe both of them. 🤗
You're eye makeup is awesome!!!!! How'd ya do that? It's beautiful.
Thank you!! I think I forgot how after quarantine lol
I killed the Rosso and my Ripple is on its last legs. I love scadens. Mine is from Josh's Frogs too and it took off. I also enjoy Obtusifolias. I have three varieties. Thanks for the tips!
I also killed a Rosso...lol
Love peps! I have around 20 varieties now!
Nice!! which one is your favorite? (I won't tell the others)
Ist timer, love your attitude.
I knew this video would be dangerous lol. Just added two more plants to my wishlist 😅
I'd say I'm sorry, but I'm kinda not. MORE PEPS FOR EVERYONE
I say all the time I wish these plants would just tell me what they want from me!!
Thanks for watching!’
That is so weird about the obtusifolia!! I had no idea the variegation could be unstable like that. Now I kinda need to know the answer 😂
Also: peperomia are great! I have the Peperomia pixie lime and Peperomia maculosa on my wishlist 😍🌱💚
I have the pixi lime and it's actually my favorite and do you think I remembered to hold it up and talk about it? Of course not. lol Thanks for watching!!
@@PamsPrettyPlants hahaha 😂
OMG you are so classy :) I love peperomias too thanks for the vid.
I wish I could find a raindrop pep in my area nurseries! I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat! I've been looking for one for over a year to add to my collection.
That's wild you haven't found any!! I wonder if it's because of how fussy they can be. Betting they're easy to lose money on!
Greart video! You mentioned that peperomias are actively growing in the winter months. I am wondering if you fertilize them then, if at all?
I think I just needed to convince mine I was a safe person or something 😂
Thank you! Love Peperomia's and they are non poison. So it's safe for my two rabbits. 🙂
Yay bunnies! 💚💚
What really helps me with fungus in the soil and fungus gnats is bottom watering.
Enjoyed this informative video....just bought one....label just says "Peperomia White"🇨🇦
Oh how helpful lol, good luck with your “white” pep! 😂
Omg I love my peperomias they are so cute
:o So cool! I guess earth is not flat after all and there are plenty of different climates at different times of year..... xD
But!
@@PamsPrettyPlants Idid it! its about 59! phew~ Thanks!
Hey Pam
Im not sure if you check older videos for comments, if you do can I ask a question? My raindrop p. has curled leaves, its under a grow light and the bottom 2/3 is perfect, the 1/3 top all the leaves are curled in, any suggestions?
Hey Tracie! Just seeing this! Mine grows in like that too and then flattens out over time, have you had it long? That might just be all it is!
I thought I killed my peperomia ripple, but I put it outside over the summer and it recovered nicely!
They do recover pretty well considering how dramatic they can be
I have one peperomia, the obtusifolia variegata, and I’m not even a huge fan of it 🙈🙈 But I’m watching the vid all the way through because I’m a fan of you..in a creepy CZcams way 😁🤣🤣
great vid! So basically peperomia is hard to grow for the most part lol I just got one and I'm scared! Frosted peper!
I tried burying it horizontally under a thin layer of soil, and sticking it in a moist sphagnum chamber and haven't had success with either method so far.
i'm happy i came across this video, it's so informative and helpful, but fatal to my plant obsession. i love peperomias
Me too!! They're the cutest. So glad you found this helpful, thanks for watching!
I think my favorite peperomia in my collection is the incana. It's so cute n fuzzy. What's your fav?
Ironically it’s the pixie lime I’m holding in the thumbnail and forgot to talk about in the dang video 😑
Hi Pam
Since peperomias are winter growers, do you fertilise them fall-winter too?
It’s probably what they planted cuttings or seeds in, like a little fabric jiffy pot. I’d remove it!
What can you tell me about peperomia glabella?
My ruby cascade has the same verigated leaves I was wondering the same thing
I don’t have it in bright light not sure
There's at least five of us saying that in these comments so it must not be that uncommon!
