It probably also helps to keep the tone of the conversation "casual", because you know what you just sounded like when the camera wasn't rolling, so you keep doing that, just saying the words on the script instead of whatever gibberish you were doing before.
Yeah, Martin did actually say that in an interview one time - he and Ricky together drove everyone mad because they were constantly making each other and everyone else laugh.
During a documentary about 'The Office', Martin said he did once wonder, "What's going to happen if I _never_ get the take right, do we just stay here forever, or will they write the scene out of the show because we can't get it done?"
4:31 as someone who watches Stephen Colbert's Late Show religiously, Martin's response becomes ten times funnier. Colbert is LITERALLY the biggest Tolkien nerd out there.

I've already seen most of these clips, yet you still managed to make me laugh like they were brand new. Mad respect!
I "met" Martin Freeman once. He was walking past the shop I worked at and I said hi and he said "I'm not who you think I am"... and then he walked back past us again later that day and came in and was just really nice.
Martin Freeman seems like the personification of every silly little goof that ever embarrassed anybody all rolled up into one surprisingly charming man.
I kind of admire that he doesn't try to be congenial or fake nice. He's okay being grumpy, rude, condescending and a bit of a bastard, and I think it's funny as hell!
How did they manage to film a scene of The Office with Ricky and Martin around is beyond me. Those 2 are an absolute joy to watch, Ricky especially. XD
I cant help it but to think there's this "untamed sassy aura" around him xD it feels like he is both interested and done with everyone's shit Edit: also imagine that you are a director who wants to continue shooting a new episode.. 0:24 and these 2 a**holes are having a deep conversation about John Duttine and completely ignoring you xDDD
I still hold a firm stance that if martin and stephen colbert started a podcast it would be one of the funniest podcasts to date. They work so well together, they really click and their humor is very similar. I've watched that interview so many times lol
@Heloise O'Byrne It was a huge ice cube the ones you put in those home freezers. It eventually melted but I blacked out and there was darkness for about 5 seconds then I was choking.
@@ElizabethCarterMedia Did you know that Rhett& Link mention choking on ice in one of their songs? If it's long enough ago that you can laugh about the experience, it's a pretty funny song. Glad you're okay though.
Unpopular opinion: I love The Hobbit trilogy more than the LOTR. But I'm seriously not sure if it's because I felt more sense of adventure in The Hobbit or just because Martin Freeman was so good at being a hobbit and leading that series. So glad Guillermo del Torro had so much faith in him even when he left being the director. Same with Peter Jackson, who even moved the filming to adjust to Freeman's schedule just so he could lead the role.
I laughed more, then I cried more, The Hobbit battle of 5 armies was better than Return of The king, but I'll prefer Fellowship over An Unexpected Journey any day of the week
Both movie sets are amazing, but theirs something to be said about character vs story in the conversation. Yes, the hobbit had its flaws, but for me it always seemed to excel with the characters, drawing me into and getting me invested in the story way earlier then I did LOTR. I think because of martins brilliant acting with Bilbo, and the fact that you can tell how much he has truly changed by the end of the movies, and all throughout them. That, and the dwarves being such good characters, it just felt like such a gut punch in the ending, more so then I ever felt with LOTR. I absolutely adore both movies, but no matter how much flack it gets, there is something about the hobbit that has always charmed me just a tiny bit more then LOTR. But that might just be me ;)
I do like the Hobbit story more than LOTR. I can't compare the quality of the movies, of course, especially with how many troubles the Hobbit trilogy had to deal with in production but I believe some people are very harsh when criticizing it. The Dwarfs were a delight and I think Martin really matches Bilbo's chaotic energy, I absurdly love the scene where he is running around that dangerous forest holding two plates of soup lol
0:34 I love how they both keep talkin their own conversation when the director already screamed "cut" multiple times 4:47 I fckin die from his sas, god XD
Oh my!!! That is just brilliant. Thank you so much for this, Martin is a gem and so is his humour 😂😍 And seeing him with Ben and Andy Serkis made my heart happy!! Oh and YES HENRY!!😁
