The thing that some of these pundits really fail to grasp is that ONE MAN has an entire COUNTRY in the palm of his hands, a country with over 100 million people I might add, not like he’s from slovenia or Iceland!! The economic impact from that alone is something that some people still don’t understand, have no idea why. The next team that signs him WILL get their money’s worth…
Ohtani's fans are not only from Japan, Canada, and the United States but also from Taiwan and South Korea. The accurate statement is that Ohtani has a large number of fans throughout the entire East Asian region.good choice for dodger.
Shohei has been donating money for many different people and projects but giving out 60,000 gloves to elementary schools in Japan recently has added more to his likability for many people. ❤ He is very genuine. He picks up trash still to this day (that was a thing to do in his high school team). His coach in Japan named “His personality” when he was asked what impressed him the most about Shohei during the interview (probably he wanted to ask Shohei’s ability to play) He is so humble and he has been that way all of his life. Any Japanese TV shows I have watched with Shohei in it alone proved that.❤ Shohei is our pride and joy. Everyone in Japan has become his father, mother, grandparents, brother and sister. 😂…although we all wish to be his lover and spouse ❤️ Well, recently we wish we were his dog 🐶🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️ We love you and we are so proud of you. I couldnt care for baseball if my life depended on it, but then i saw Ohtani popping up all over youtube i wanna say 2021-22? and finally bit the bullet to see the video, and boy do i not regret it. He single highhandedly got me into watching baseball. Ill follow that man wherever he goes.
I’ve been to 22 Angel games in the past 3 season. Was there to witness his first grand slam. I feel truly privileged to have been able to share so many Ohtani moments in person with my friends and family. He’s truly great.
I was only able to make it to Anaheim once to see him play, and while he wasn't pitching that day, he was the DH. I think he had 4 at-bats, and I remember 3 times he got on base, and 3 times couldn't score because the rest of his team can't hit, lol.
People were clowning the Dodgers for paying him that $700 million but OHTANI came up with the best idea and decided to defer the majority of that contract AFTER his 10-year is up. That means the Dodgers are only paying him around $2 million per year during the first 10 years and they will pay him back the bulk of it afterwards. Which means that the Dodgers still have enough spending money to get MORE star players. Absolute masterclass and nobleness by the Dodgers and Ohtani
@@breadandcircuses8127 yeah kinda scary right , I bet there is a death clause so his family wouldn't miss out and 2m a year is more than enough but sheesh

I mean HE IS.. I have no interest in baseball before, 3-4 hours game try me... but, eversince I heard about Ohtani, I became interest in baseball... he is without a doubt a generational talent, could pitch and hit professionally.. and aside from that he have a goofy, fun and likeable personality and a very humble superstar... I mean we used to see superstar athletes from across different field (nba, mlb, nfl, nhl, football, etc) they got big contract and go flexing, buying mansion, sport cars, expensive jewelry and often times this behaviour become boomerang in the future for them... but Ohtani REALLY different from that, his dedication, work hard, focus and humble personality is a good and best role model for the next generations ❤❤
@@climatepurification I'd love to hear who you think would be considered generational talent over Ohtani then. I'll be holding my laugh until you comment though.
I went to a angels vs Orioles just to see him pitch and I witnessed a performance. He almost hit for the cycle and him to go off pitching wise too. He’s insane.
I went to a few angel games this year even tho I’m a dodger fan but it’s crazy the amounts of people that Ohtani attracts. So many people stand behind home plate just to watch him pitch. It’s incredible. I hope he comes to the dodgers
I went to LA on vacation in August and bought tickets to an Angels game just to watch Shohei. He’s the greatest baseball player I have ever witnessed play the game.
I'm glad that the U.S. has finally recognized Ohtani's greatness. Japan have watched Ohtani since he was 16 years old, so everyone thinks of him as family, so even if Ohtani gets injured or can't play, the Japan people will support him.
This guy is truly 1 in 8billion. He will rewrite the history books. I've watched sports my whole life and this kid is special Never in our life time again will we see this calibre athlete in baseball.
I’ve made it a point to see him at least once a year when he comes to Texas. Watched him drop dong on my boys in Houston in 2022, then watched him absolutely nuke a few in Arlington this year. He’s 100% worth the price of admission on his own.
I live in Austin and went to a few Houston games this year because they were on the weekend. I regret not going to Arlington..the TEX series in June was historical!
One thing people don’t mention when Japan was facing elimination against Mexico in the wbc who led of the 9th with a double then scored the game tying run? Ohtani bro was clutch hitting and pitching. I was rooting for Mexico and I’m still salty about that.
Finally someone got it right - this analysis nails the whole financial picture with Ohtani, both in terms of his insane real value and his admirable choice to put achievement on the field before money. I'm so tired of all these baseball pundits talking like selling his services to the highest bidder is his top priority when it's probably at the bottom of his list! He knows he will make more money wherever he plays than he could ever spend, so for him it's obviously about being on a winning team in a location that suits him. He understands that without being on a team with a strong roster he won't see the post season, and those other 39 players have to be paid as well - so you can guarantee that he will take less money to play for a team with a deep lineup than get more money from a team with a questionable supporting cast. Don't be surprised if he doesn't sign a long term deal - I'm sure the fate of teammate Mike Trout is not lost on him. Lengthy contracts are signed for optimizing financial return and stability, and I don't think either of those are of particular concern to Shohei.
But wouldn't make sense to sign short-term deal when he could just add in player opt-outs to a long-term contract so that after 3 or 4 years he can opt out if he wants. He doesn't need to but it would be dumb not to.
Went to see the Cubs play against the Angels in Anaheim and oh man, the amount of fans that bought his merch was INSANE. Everywhere I turned I saw loads of Ohtani jerseys being worn. Hope that the Cubs are able to scoop him up!
its easy to think that he's overhyped or that people aren't justified for taking part in the mania. But think about it: the Babe Ruth of our time, possibly even better than Babe Ruth, and he's got an entire country backing him. It makes sense he's as big as he is, and I'm super happy I saw him hit and pitch live
He is overhyped. Because people say things like "possibly even better than Ruth". And I take part in the mania. I love Ohtani, I'm in awe of what he can do. But he's been in the league for 6 years, and has played the full year as a two way player a couple times. He is not anywhere in the vicinity with Ruth as a hitter, or as a pitcher. He does both once every 6 games, when he's starting, and for 6-7 innings at that. Realistically, he is a two way player 1/9 of the time he plays, the rest of the time he is a DH. A very good DH, but a DH none the less. A position that did not exist in Ruth's era, or surely he would have been the Red Sox DH on days he didn't pitch. Let his career play out, THEN start comparing him to Tue legends of the game. The he won't be getting overhyped.
@@snerdterguson He is better than Babe, he is consistently pitching and hitting in the same seasons, he is in the top parts of the leaderboards in both categories when the competition is higher. Shohei is better than Ruth
@snerdterguson he's better and it's not close. You need to do research on who Babe Ruth was playing against. Comp matters and ohtani is doing it In a Era where alot of races are playing and are elite. Ohtani is faster, and a better pitcher. Offensively theirs a debate because of what I said. But numbers show Babe was better but put ohtani in that Era he will be wayy better than Ruth easily 60+ homeruns
Shohei is the most amazing player I've ever seen and I watched every game Albert Pujols played in STL. He's worth every dollar he gets. I hope he comes back healthy and can keep up the 2-way show for us fans because it is the best thing I've ever seen. Unless the Cubs sign him, then boo Ohtani!
Did you know that Ohtani donated 60,000 gloves to elementary schools in Japan recently not to mention he has donated so much for many people and organizations already? Among the gloves he donated, 1/3 of them were for lefty. He is so thoughtful and genuine ❤
It is insane putting into perspective just how much money he generates for both himself, his team, and the sport at large. I really hope he keeps it up when he comes back next season, wherever it may be. I don't think I've seen a player so unanimously beloved by everyone no matter who they root for, and so world-renowned that everyone wants to see what he's doing. It's so fascinating getting to see it all unfold right before our eyes like this.
Ohtanis bringing worldwide attention to baseball. I'm British and have never seen a full baseball game in my life, I don't even know the game and playing rules other than very basics etc. So he single handedly is bringing the most important thing to baseball ball. Peoples eyes, time and viewing that may translate into financial gain for clubs, sponsors and USA baseball. I'd never even heard of him before yesterday. He was in our news channels due to his new contract!
I'm not really into watching baseball but man, Ohtani rules. If my local team (Rockies) were good enough to get him, I'd probably start watching and going to games lol dude is just that awesome Hope this injury doesn't hurt his career too much. He's on track to become the GOAT if he keeps his performance up. Hope he also starts making the insane amount of money that he deserves!
I live in Britain but am half Japanese, I never cared about baseball and didn’t know what a strike zone or any other rules like that were but on the suggestion of my grandparents tried watching the WBC, I kind of enjoyed it so now somewhat follow baseball. I’ve always been a big cricket fan and much prefer it to baseball but I’ll still watch the occasional game. I didn’t become a baseball follower because of ohtani, but him making the Japan team huge was probably a factor in being suggested to watch them and thus creating more following for the whole sport of baseball
0:43 Fun fact: Both Ohtani and Messi share the unique quality of being two-way players. Messi is known for his exceptional abilities as both a playmaker and a goal scorer in football/soccer. He has the vision and creativity to create scoring opportunities for his teammates, while also possessing the skill and precision to score goals himself. And like Ohtani, Messi is known for his humility, making them true legends in their respective sports.
He really isn't one of the best pitchers because he doesn't make 30+ starts like the best pitchers do. He is great when he's out there, but he barely pitches the innings required to qualify for the ERA title. And as of right now, we have no idea if he will ever be even close to what he was. Smart teams will stay far away from a long term deal with him. Most I would do right now is 2-3 years 100 million. Because he is worth nearly that as a DH, so if he doesn't pitch again, you aren't getting crushed on the value.
@@snerdtergusonBOOM! Facts, sir! People are braindead that don’t realize this contract will COMPLETELY smother ANY team he goes to. If he gets hurt pitching, he can’t hit. If he gets hurt hitting, he can’t pitch. If ANYTHING goes wrong in his rehab next year, you’re paying him exorbitant amounts of money without a return on your investment. Four years MAX is all anyone should give him til he gets back on the mound!
Did miss the main point of the video? Just having Shohei on the team means a boatload of money in ad revenue from Japanese companies, merch sales, etc. As stated in the video, before he even stepped foot in MLB, Angels probably already paid off his yearly salary in the extra interest he generated. They then made the equivalent to his yearly salary every 5 games. That was rookie Ohtani, not unquestionably the best player in all of baseball Ohtani.
@@Passinoutsticks No team is going to invest in Ohtani's abilities alone. He is more popular in Japan than the children of the Imperial family or any athlete, many media outlets feature him at the top of major news stories every day, and the equipment and clothes he uses sell out quickly. The team that acquires Ohtani will surely get a huge amount of Japan money. Incidentally, whether they acquire Yamamoto, Imanaga, or any other Japanese player, they will not have the same economic impact as Ohtani, so their investment will only be recouped through their ability and success.
One of the most iconic people in sports, in modern day history. He deserves every ounce of recognition and respect. He is unbelievable with his talents and expertise. He is humble and doesn't take his big moments too seriously, in the sense that it is the greatest thing he could accomplish. He knows what he is worth and does an amazing job of displaying that with an immense amount of humbleness, while also displaying his superhuman skills to the rest of the baseball world. Ohtani can go to whatever team he feels fit, but when it comes to just his name, it will be iconic forever. He is an amazing and talented human being with much he has to still display, I wish him luck in whatever he chooses to pursue, I'll be rooting for him along the way. Good luck, Ohtani, may your name live on forever.
In the pantheon of baseball legends, there exists a figure cloaked in the roiling mists of both Mount Olympus and the Elysian Fields - a dual-aspected demigod wielding thunder in his arm and lightning in his bat. This is no mere mortal at play, but rather the ineffable Shohei Ohtani, a being whose talents whisper of the mythic heroes of old, yet whose flesh and blood anchor him in the temporal realm of mortals. To watch Ohtani pitch is to witness the graceful yet ferocious dance of a tempest. Each throw, a symphonic crescendo that crescendoes in the crash of the catcher's mitt; his arm, a conduit for the raw power of the storm, as Zeus's own bolt, hurls towards earth with precision that defies mere human capability. Batters stand as Sisyphean figures, eternally striving to conquer the insurmountable, to unravel the enigma of his arsenal, only to retreat, humbled by his elemental force. When the bat rests in Ohtani's grip, it transforms into an artist's brush, each stroke a deft sweep across the canvas of the field, painting arcs like the trails of shooting stars that enrapture the spectators in their otherworldly glow. His home runs are not mere hits; they are the embodiment of the cosmic ballet, each swing a manipulation of the very fabric of the space-time baseball continuum, collapsing distances as if the outfield walls dematerialize with the sheer will of his intent.
I love how BDE’s voice cadence sounds like it continuously going up and up like he goes to be screaming by the end of the video but it just never gets there lol

I went to an Angels Mariners day game in Seattle back a few months. Ohtani was out for the season by then. Every damn Asian (there’s hella in Seattle) had an ohtani jersey. The guy is the most marketable thing since war ( and I’m not talking about the baseball kind)
No wonder the Blue Jays have been mentioned as a dark horse candidate for Ohtani. Their parent company is Rogers Communications, who owns Sportsnet and has a virtual monopoly on broadcasting and coverage of Blue Jays games. They also own Rogers Centre. Many of their subsidiaries would earn revenue off of Ohtani playing in Toronto - not just their Blue Jays subsidiary. Ohtani's high school mentor (Kikuchi) is also on the current Blue Jays roster. I still only give Toronto a 1% chance to sign Ohtani, though. Slim chance.
I don’t know how true this is but I’ve heard Japanese players don’t like to play with another Japanese high caliber player. It’s a cultural thing to be THE guy on a team. So in a way, the teams that don’t have a significant Japanese player will have a slight advantage
@@bigpictureguys8415 Kikuchi is an exception here. Ohtani has actually mentioned that he's interested in being on the same team as Kikuchi. The generalization/stereotype about Japanese players is most likely false, and borderline racist.
Angels fans shouldn’t be mad considering how much of a pay cut he took to win y’all a championship even while being injured and brought your franchise so much money

Really hope he can stay healthy and continue to produce at a high level. He’s hard not to route for.
Like a speedrun?
Shohei has been donating money for many different people and projects but giving out 60,000 gloves to elementary schools in Japan recently has added more to his likability for many people. ❤ He is very genuine. He picks up trash still to this day (that was a thing to do in his high school team). His coach in Japan named “His personality” when he was asked what impressed him the most about Shohei during the interview (probably he wanted to ask Shohei’s ability to play)
He is so humble and he has been that way all of his life. Any Japanese TV shows I have watched with Shohei in it alone proved that.❤
Shohei is our pride and joy. Everyone in Japan has become his father, mother, grandparents, brother and sister. 😂…although we all wish to be his lover and spouse ❤️ Well, recently we wish we were his dog 🐶🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️
We love you and we are so proud of you. Please don’t overwork and hurt yourself again. Take it easy. I know we want more but you have done enough. May God protect you and keep on shining your way with love and light 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
Can't even fathom how much I love him. 😭♥️♥️♥️
He just might be a saiyan

honestly hes crazy big.
That’s absolutely insane…
He obviously doesn't care about money, Ohtani was famous for only spending 4K USD/year when he was a Japan
@@maxaus2294 He is single and I get the impression that his parents in Japan don't want to rely on him financially. In fact, his mother continues to work part-time in a restaurant.
Ohtani probably brings in enough additional ad rev from Japan to pay for his salary. Dodgers are basically getting him for free.
Somebody that doesn't watch baseball probably would think he's a generational talent.

This aged well. Dodgers just gave him 10 years $700 million
I went to a angels vs Orioles just to see him pitch and I witnessed a performance. He almost hit for the cycle and him to go off pitching wise too. He’s insane.
I wasn’t a baseball fan until i watched this account for the first time, thank you
I went to a few angel games this year even tho I’m a dodger fan but it’s crazy the amounts of people that Ohtani attracts. So many people stand behind home plate just to watch him pitch. It’s incredible. I hope he comes to the dodgers
Only thing is, the Dodgers still outdrew the Angels by 10,000+ per game. I like watching Ohtani too, but the Dodgers don't really need him.
That hopeful thinking got you ohtani.😂
Congrats!
@@TheBatugan77 and guess who pays him a $700 million dollar contract? Lol

Dude big props, this is a pretty in depth video and something I hadn’t even thought of before
I went to LA on vacation in August and bought tickets to an Angels game just to watch Shohei.
Showtime Shohei
As someone who went to a game for the sole purpose of seeing ohtani play, i agree
Those numbers are absolutely mind boggling. Excellent video.
this guy got it 100% right. this man made an amazing video.
@@alexbro4187
Why would I want my team to offer him opt outs? Just so he can jerk my team around in 3-4 years?
Fk that.
As long as he doesnt let the injuries fuck him up to much. He'll dominate for many many many years. It isnt even close. He is just another level

I'm British and have never seen a full baseball game in my life, I don't even know the game and playing rules other than very basics etc. So he single handedly is bringing the most important thing to baseball ball. I’ve always been a big cricket fan and much prefer it to baseball but I’ll still watch the occasional game.
I didn’t become a baseball follower because of ohtani, but him making the Japan team huge was probably a factor in being suggested to watch them and thus creating more following for the whole sport of baseball

Fun fact: Both Ohtani and Messi share the unique quality of being two-way players.

Next year, I will go to the US just watching him.
how many of us are back here after his new contract was reported to be 700M ?
He's one of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters. He deserves to be paid for each.

This coming out 3 weeks ago is absolutely wild
Someone has the formula
You were absolutely correct and the Dodgers agreed with you.

I'd say Toronto's chance is slightly lower than 1%.
