I Start 3d printing 3 weeks ago and Next week i Start with sanding and painting my first MK3 helmet.
But its hart to find the perfekt color.

For the grime effects, have you considered trying oil paints instead of acrylics? They'd give you a much longer working time, although the downside is a longer drying time.

This is supppppppppppppppperb battle damage style, various battle damage method
I made a battle damaged storm trooper helmet first I made a multi layered paint on a pristine piece then I attached it to some parachord to my trailer hitch and drove off road and dragged it behind me on a hike through the mountains and got weird looks because some fat nerd is taking a storm trooper helmet for a walk I then used a torch and red hot old dull files for burn marks and scars then I put some fake blood then left it in the woods to have some real moss grow on it and planted it in a pot with a bonsai tree growing out of it to this date I don't think I can top that gift.
That is awesome
Tip: Wear a respirator when burning the plastic because the fumes that come off could very easily kill you.
Ps: I’m no expert but my dad is so just stay safe

Did you add the weathering pass on top of clear coat? having thinner in the wash Id be so scared it would strip the paint underneath (the chrome in your case)

@@FranklyBuilt for custom weathering I agree it’s when you’re trying to replicate a chipping pattern when you need Liquid latex. Hence bobs fett because you know us star wars fans take accuracy to another level 😂

How do you get the eyes to flicker with the helmets in the background?
Saw a different video of the guy today, it's has magnetic contacts at the edge of the face plate
Sometimes the contacts don't hold too well, leading to the flickering you see

i have a question is sanding pla whitout a mask dangerous?
I imagine as long as your not snorting the residual plastic when using low grit, and wet sanding when using high grit (keeping the fine powder out of the air) your probably just fine. If using a palm sander or power sander I would wear a mask forsure, as they tend to kind of throw what your sanding all over the place and into the air.
Is the mk85 helmet from cgtrader worth it or will I stick to the Thingiverse one
