Not really. Its like the Lenovo Legion Go. Hall effect in joysticks it's a different thing, which would be great, no doubt. Let's wait to check if this ends up happening or not.
The joy-con's are pretty terrible. Stubby jerky short analog sticks, awful ergonomics, tiny cheap buttons, and the gyro motion is inferior to the Wii remote plus + Sensor bar since there's no reference/sensor bar on switch. We need a new advanced sensor bar/reference for proper cross hair/motion reliability, and a Pro controller with a more unique design, low latency with a couple of innovative bells & whistles.
@@80sHolic7 They are pretty bad. I've had to tear mine apart and do the paper trick, which works for a while. They really do need a redesign. ... with analog shoulder buttons!
The Lenovo halndheld actually has detachable controllers with magnets, looks very much like a Switch. You even get an accessory making one of the “joycons” function like a mouse
If their next system didn't have detachable controllers, and it developed stick drift it'd be a much bigger problem than just replacing the controllers.
@@Ysl.phantom same. I have multiple switches, joycons and pro controllers with only one having some drift. I was able to fix that with some troubleshooting. So I can understand some people being wary of the next console if they dealt with that issue for the entire lifespan
The rail has never failed me. Magnets only will fail. But perhaps the magnets will align it perfectly, and snap a locking mechanism in place, which will have to be opened with a button, like the current JoyCons.
i think its more likely the magnets have something to do with the joysticks, not the attachment. The slide on attachment works and is reliable, I cant see Nintendo relying on magnet to hold them on.
The only reason ive ever used "table top" mode is when i attach it to a tablet holder and i used my procontroller because my joycons crapped out and i refuse to buy more.
The Lenovo Legion Go is the handheld pc that uses detachable controllers which uses magnets, not the MSI Claw. There was also the Alienware prototype handheld that used magnetic detachable controllers.
I do hope the magnets are stronger than the short screws they used in the joycons. My daughter was holding my switch with one hand(she was holding the right joycon) the screw near the top of the rail popped out causing the rail to beak from the joycon and the system fell to the floor.
Magnets on the joy cons will not work. they will interfered with the screen. messing up the colors of the screen. I heard of a twist and lock system For the joy cons.
I don't even have any working joycons anymore. I went and bought 8bitdo ultimate controller for the switch and retroflag handheld controller for the switch. They're awesome. I love that retroflag's controller looks like a gamecube controller.
Good stuff RGT 85. Yh I'm hoping the Older Joy-Cons go away now but I don't mind a Version 2.0 Joy-Cons tho, if they are better that is. All the Switch 2 Rumour Specs are sounding decent, 8in Screen, 4K Dock, Kickstand with Damping Bracket, Bigger Game Cartridges, Backwards Compatible, Handheld in 1080p, Larger Joy-Cons with Metallic Buttons and Electomagnet Attachable.
The rail system is really bad too because over time it wears away at the clips that keep the controllers in place. Happened to like 3 different joycons of mine. A redesign to me doesn’t sound bad, maybe it doesn’t break the controllers as often tbh
What I have in my head is that we can get an updated dock with ssd, with power and 4k etc. And the switch itself remains the same or almost the same with its memory. So when playing on TV it would use the dock memory + switch memory. When handheld - only switch 😇
First of all, I'm thinking there will probably be a grove or something to help keep the magnetic Joy-Con in place. And second, it would be for the best for the old Joy-Con to work on the new system at least over Bluetooth. And even if the new system isn't backwards compatible out of the box on the hardware front, an adapter will likely be sold by either Nintendo or a trusted third-party manufacturer such as Hori.
Mobapad shared details about Switch 2 on their facebook page but it's already gone. They shared details about the screen, dock, backward compatibility.
I like the Joycon idea but have had drift issues and stick/button failure. I need to replace another stick because the spring mechanism broke somehow. It broke when it wasn't in use lol. Anyways, the magnet idea could work if it is designed using a plug design where the Switch case has a hole on its side that functions like a rail
I will like it to be built in the system better, the only time I take out the controller is when I dock it in the Nintendo switch dock to play in the tv.
Table top with split joycon isn’t perfect but it works so well for games like Mario kart 8 and super smash bros. Some really good memories playing with friends while visiting them along with a few drinks, and of course playing it on flights
Imagine your playing your new magnetic switch and oops the joy cons break off from their magnetic connection and the screen hits your hardwood floor. Now image your outside and your screen hits the concrete. They’re gonna be a lot of broken screens out there.
I don’t have a problem with the size of the joycons and I have big hands. My problem is that it is harder to aim. That might have something to do with how small the analog sticks are
The magnets could mean that the system will sport a more clean, and thereby sleek look and possibly- that perhaps joycons are optional depending on use?🤷 (not only could the magnets fail occasionally, but a few years down the road could weaken and fail completely)🧐
I personally don't want the joycons to go. It's not about buying more gamepads for my cousins when we spend some weekends together, it's about the kind of games we play and how we like to play them. We heavily rely on the motion controls of the joycons to play Mario Tennis, or Mario Party or Wario Ware or similar games (And the have wheels for mario kart 8). I even do my cardio with Fitness Boxing 2 when there's heavy raining and I can't go outside. It's the interactive way that makes playing with others fun, in my personal experience at least. I understand not everyone plays switch games this way though, but the switch is a complementary system for me, so the big appeal for me aside nintendo games and the portability, is the interactive family games. I do the rest of my gaming on PC. That being said, I had to repair a ton of joycons because of drifting issues when I used the console in handheld mode. I'm hoping they can at least improve the sticks or use the magnetic design like the Gulikit sticks that I mounted on my units.
I just hope the Switch 2 sells well, considering how underrated the Wii-U was due to its name being similar to the Wii’s name (then again the name Switch 2 might not be final)
Three reasons for the switch (no pun) in Joycon charging tech: 1) Redesigned Joycons that work better than the original model. 2) Wireless charging for devices is pretty commonplace these days. 3) The physical rails were exploited pretty early on to allow for jailbreaking. Making it a simple wireless charging system with no data connection means that’s no longer an open vector.
I think if the procontroller will work than I believe the joycons will also be compatible. I think its not a bad thing to make them compatible as the majority would like more controllers without having to invest in more hardware. I use the pro controller majority of time and if I play with the wife the joy con's go into thecontroller adapter. But if I have more people I actually have adapters I have 3d printed that give them a complete full sized controller function and feel and I have printed a slightly smaller design for kids with small hands.
My kids use tabletop mode all the time but use it with Bluetooth controllers not joycons. The only time joycons are used are in niche games that require them like 1 2 switch(have not played that in a long time) and the like.
It would be nice if the old joycons were still compatible even if they won’t connect directly to the switch 2. Lower cost to start playing multiplayer while still implementing the new magnet controllers.
I just hope that whatever form the controllers are for the switch 2, that it has full size analog sticks. Hall effect sticks will go a long way to making people trust Nintendo controllers again.
I would prefer the rail than magnets because magnets. But I agree with the drift problem and the size. Because magnets will not stay put if you are putting enough force.
On the occasions where I play my Switch on the go (I play something like 90% of the time on the TV in my living room or bedroom), I typically will play tabletop, not handheld, so I can use my Pro Controller.
Hopefully the hard drive and SD slot are far away from said magnets. That could be a problem! I use only a pro controller, so joycons or not doesn’t matter much to me.
I use a pro controller in table-top mode at my freinds house alot personally. As for joycons if they make them alittle bigger and more comfortable to use and more durable, im down for a joycon 2 or whatever they end up calling them. Otherwise meh not a huge loss.
I am actually more disappointed about the Pro Controller actually working with the new system. That means no games designed around analog pressure sensitive triggers.
I hope those new controllers are a lot better. I've had joycon drift on joy cons that weren't even used 150 hours. Ridiculous. Size of them is fine for me. My hands never grew past the hands of a 14 year old 😢
I don't see why anyone would expect the current joycons to connect to the new switch or why anyone would expect a pro controller to not work with it, it just uses bluetooth.
joy cons provide 2 purposes different ways to play which is what Nintendo is about. and easy fix if joycons develop a fault having the joycons built in is just one extra cost to the manufacturer and consumer plus you can get 3rd party joy cons that are much larger then the original and just as comfortable. joycon drift would be far worse on a system that you cant fix.
I have 300+ hours in BOTW and 120+ in TOTK. I take it with me everywhere, sometimes I let my friend' s kids to use it. One time it fell facedown really hard, the left joystick can't be pressed down anymore AND STILL! 0! and I mean 0 DRIFT!
