VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 6. 10. 2022
- Meet the man who lives in the tiniest wee house in Scotland. Jock Broon built the 'wee hoose' in 1824 after being given some land by a local Laird. Or did he...? We travel to Loch Shin at Lairg in Sutherland, Highland Scotland, to uncover the story of Broon's Hoose.

I'm a wee lad. Can I live in the wee hoose? Please. I can be Jock Broon. Would it be alright if Jock has an American accent?

This is the best story I've heard in a while! Too funny how the BBC fell for it. đ â„
Nobody can spin a yarn like the Scots! I have Scottish ancestry, and I married a Scotsman. The BBC must have 'wee een' to have missed this! Greetings from Highland, MI, USA. Oh, and wee een means 'small eyes' .
The meal at the end of the video made me jealous! I bet that cured the chills.
Itâs so hard to believe my ancestors had this accent. Me being from Texas and all! Love it!
Where are your ancestors from
So glad to have you back, hope Colin is getting better:) the stories you find and tell are so fascinating and you can tell them in such a way - âsprinkledâ with Shaunâs little comments-, that they are just perfect, thank you both as always;)
Have you heard of the Save Soil movement before? It could help to have beautiful places like Lairg đżđżđż
My husband and I just drove the North Coast 500 in September. We had lunch at that same cafe in Lairg on our way from Tongue to Kinlochbervie (some of the prettiest views on the drive)! It was a gorgeous, clear day, and we sat outside at one of the picnic tables enjoying a view of the loch. How lovely to see the loch and cafe on your video. I look forward to the day when we might visit in person again.
My first language is Frisian, I was born in Northern Holland.. the way you pronounce "brown" and also "house' sounds just the way we do!..love it!!!! I
My father crossing the Rhine into Germany in WW2 was taken in by a butcher. He told the man ye speak broad Scotch well. The man replied I thought ye were speaking German.
I always love your outtakes but they also show just how much time and effort you put into making these lovely vlogs â€
Just want to say Thank you! đđđ
Visited the Falls of Shin on my first coach tour to Scotland unfortunately I took it literally by falling and badly bruising my shoulder. We actually saw the wee house and the driver said an MP was claiming it as a second home
Hi guys!! Loved seeing your vlog. I could just hear Loyd Grossman saying 'hoo lives in a house like this?' It's got to be little Jimmy Krankie!
Stay well and keep warm. Lots of love xxxx
Not sure which I loved more about this vid--a glimpse of the wee hoose or your accents. I could listen to y'all talk about even boring stuff all day đđ
Born in Glasgow raised in California it takes my heart home again. I hear my parents who were always surprised when asked where their accents were from. They'd say, what accents are ye speaken of?
I grew up there! I was actually one of the two the 'Lairg gala princesses' on the float in 1999!
I saw the broon's house and though it wasn't the broons house I knew (I mainly remember house 2) I recognised the little island and tree immediately!
I actually found an adder/diamondback skin on the little jetty (which I assume you're standing on?) when I was 6 and I treasured that for years
Guys your stories are getting better and better â€So captivating
it looks like it would be a nice duck house
Guys - I may have said it before, but you really do brighten up my gloomiest of days!
Thank you! Love you both! xx
Who doesn't love a good story sitting by the fireplace in the pub on a windy autumn evening, have a good weekend!
This is my exact favourite kind of shenanigans. Good fun that hurts no one but when you catch someone up with it and can have a good laugh.
Omg, I love you two. You make me want to pick up and move to Scotland. â€ïž Sending a donation so your next lunch is on me. Stay warm and happy!
Aww, thank you so much! x
You are so very welcome. You both make my day happier. Hugs to you both.
What a cheeky wee story! Love it. Thanks for sharing
I respect the tenacity of them building replacements as needed and continuing the story!
So chuffed I am so early to the comments! This tale had me grinning the entire time. Such a Scottish thing to do. Kudos to the local community for keeping this bit of âlocal loreâ going. Made me want to go back to visit Scotland even more, if thatâs possible!
ATB to you both, and Otis too! â€
What a brilliant story about the wee hoose, clever good that the BBC fell for it. xx enjoyed the vlog it's always fun watching you Colin and Shawn. xx
I read the title and the song neighbourhood by space popped in my head ....its going to be stuck there all day now

I am Scottish, than you for this video, in these troubled times we need to have a good laugh, Welcome to Scotland.
Glad to see you two out and about . Love your stories and Avengers. Culin hope you are feeling better now.
Victoria Wine, thatâs a blast from the past. I remember standing outside as a 16 year old trying to con customers to buy beer (with my money) on my behalf!
Now I know you two gentlemen can't hear your own accent, but it's lovely. Thank you also for sharing this entertaining little story, and I'm glad you had a nice lunch after.
Glad to see you both back on Friday at 4:00pm Colin and Shaun I know who lives in the little house Colin I think I must be the home of the little people or maybe Noddy đđđđđđđ
Loved â€ïž your wee story of the wee house đĄ on the Locke. (hoose)

The story was already funny but you delived it so smooth.. I really believed you were narrating factual history of that place. You put a big smile on me, ty!
So nice to see you both this morning! Best health wishes to you! đâ€đđ
You are a gifted story teller, Colin. You could go into real estate and sell that wee hoose for aboot a thoosand poonds. âșïž Great to see you both again. Give my regards to Otis, the birds, and the beeeees!
Living your best life......get well Colin....love a good yarn...LOVE YOU BOTH AND OTIS TOO XOXOX
Nicely done! I really love history stories that aren't history at all. I guess the BBC needs to check their sources a bit better. Good to see you both looking well! Best wishes from Central Michigan!
So very happy u guys are back!! I hope u are okay now& dont have to go back to the hospital etc. I cross the fingers its all behind you now!
Great video! I totally fell for that story, hook, line & sinker. I figured his family inherited the "hoose" & eventually just updated it, to withstand the weather... but nooooo .. it was all just a big fat whopper of a story! Hahaha. That was amazing. The food, u guys deffo earned looked very yummy.
Hows the homestead? Hows the animals? Any updates on the train-shed yet?
Cant wait for next weeks! Til then :)

I passed this wee hoose all the time and never heard the Broon story, now I have I wish you two hadn't burst the bubble. Next time I will be sure to only watch the first half of your videos to avoid the spoilers! Cracking video chaps, glad I stumbled upon your channel đ
Great to see you two again with a good yarn - hope you are feeling a bit better Colin. Thank you for sharing from Brisbane Australia.
Thank goodness youâre back we missed you last week. Hope youâre feeling better Colin. Great to see the glorious scenery and get a good story even if it was made up đ€Ł. Lunch looked yummy đ.
Every Loch needs a great story! đ
I'm building a wee hoos of my own, but mine will be on a trailer and wheels...
Glad to see the wee young laddie feeling better. (And Colin too!) đ
â€Love the Scottish humor! Canât wait to get back to my ancestral land and see that wee hoose!!
You can tell it must have built sometime in the 1800's, because of the aerial. If it had been built anytime much later, it would have been built with a satellite dish, instead.
đ
I've been to Lairg a few times, its a lovely little place. The Pier indeed does good food and one of the best cappuccino in the Highlands.
Hi đ how are you doing?
Silver Fox just passed us on the Leicester Line, first live view after all that has happened, better late than never, all very surrealđ
Brilliant! I had heard this story before really enjoyed the bag pipe music.đ
Who lives in the tiniest house in Scotland? SPONGEBOB MCSQUAREPANTS!!!

Good morning from NZ. Colin, we hang off your every word. We love how you love history. How cute is that wee hoose ? Hope your health is improving. We love you too Shawn. Hugs from over here.â€đđđđ
Love it there. Used to stay with friends in Bonar Bridge. And been to Shin Falls many times. Beautiful part of the country. Making me home sick.
Happy weekend to all of you đ
Sorry to see Colin is still suffering with his stone. Hopefully it will pass soon.
All my very best wishes.
Love the story of the poacher. So fun!
So, let me get this straight: The hoose was a ruse?
That was good, made laugh đ
Oh gosh...that's hilarious...makes me love Scotland even more! Your lunch looked delish!
Haven't seen you guys in ages! Great to see you. Love from Ireland.

Thank you for the insight into The Little Hoose. Love the stories you dig up Colin. Do hope your health is OK at the moment. Kidney stones are a very painful ailment. You poor thing have suffered. Lucky to have Shaun by your side. Cheers to you both from New Zealand.

Fantastic to see you out and exploring again!
Hi Coli and Shaun, funny story. I wondered about the TV aerial , I thought maybe the towns folk had been updating the wee house đ€Šđœââïž. Hope you are on the mend Colin . You and Shaun have been through a lot this year. Sending positive thoughts and prayers.
Haha, what a tale! Expertly told as well đ - thanks for the smiles!

Keep the story going!
Yay! You both look fantastic!!! đ
Great story Boys, keep them coming. Colin my favourite session was back on May 30, 2018. Autism and Me - Starting a new life on a boat to save my mental health from Asperger's. meant a lot to me and good to hear someone else talking about mental health. Thank You
glad to see you a bit better, Colin, was thinking "is that cafe where you posted that pic of Shaun on social media" and it was :) looks like a good grub up, that. BTW stories like that are why I love history, and local history :) people have been doing it for years. I once came across a story of a huggggggggge battle that took place and when I dug into it, turned out it was nothing of the sort, just a minor skirmish that had been, um, exaggerated. People like to make themselves feel important and part of big events. In that respect, human nature hasn't changed - and historians of all stripes have to be alive to this! :)
Totally and utterly brilliant. Loyd grossman who lives in a house like this.
The Fellas are ..back ...much love guys..From Toronto.
PricelessâŠâŠyou two are just grand xx
Just saw your twitter post. What a huge smile! So happy to hear the stone is out. You guys are champs. Wishing you a quick recovery. You both deserve all the cakes. đ
Well there you go, I thought it may be a duck house. Loved the story. Thank you. Cheers.
This has caused me flashbacks to episodes of Monty Python. Well done lads!
Oh my gosh, I got a wee sucked in to the Little Hoose story! Great fun, enjoy all you guys do, from the US.
Lovely scenery and cute Cafe!
A wee hoose! đ€Ł Adorable, take care
Loved the story of the "WEE HOOSE! " đđđ
It's the stories like this that add so much to life. Thanks!!
Brilliant I love a great historical story. I live in Lincolnshire and have many a national trust property with some great stories of before years that I absolutely definitely without a doubt believe đđđđ
Great video! Good storytelling about the Broonâs Hoosie in my home village! đđŽó §ó ąó łó Łó Žó ż
In the Thousand Islands, between New York State, US and Ontario, Canada, there are many small islands, each with a small house on it. But none, that I've seen, quite THIS small.
Lovely story. Thank you for sharing đ
