    Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

    When you bumped up your fertilizer rate your fan speed wasn’t high enough and product began to accumulate in your wing hoses because they are the longest. That’s why fertilizer was still coming out when the meter wasn’t turning. Also it would have created pressure variations in multiple hoses because air flow was restricted thus diverting air flow to the hoses that weren’t plugging. That’s why your rate was jumping all over the place.

    Regarding the bins:
    I'm not a farmer, but i watch alot of farm tubers 🤣
    I've noticed that no one ever regrets building a large bin. Build the biggest one you can, maybe the same size as the new bin the Larsons built. You could essentially put the corn from two of your existing bins into one, and maybe free one up for soybeans. That way, you could install cables into one of your 60k bins, and start rehydrating soybeans for more profit. Or, in a good year, just have a lot of capacity for corn.

    On a really small scale spreading fertilizer, not through tubes but with a gas powered spinner, chunks are catchable (50lb bags have chunks you can catch and break up manually). But right above the opening is always an agitator (an auger or a straight bar welded perpendicular on a vertical spinning shaft) that spins around and breaks chunks I can't see. It keeps product flowing because there are ALWAYS chunks. Finer screens in the fill openings and an agitator look like things you've pointed out already as solutions. And solutions I think would improve things tremendously.

  • @steelefarmllc142
    @steelefarmllc142 Před rokem +36

    What was different between fields? You folded the wings. now you have an issue with one of the wings.
    If the line got pinched and prevents full flow to the wing, it will slowly fill up with product while still letting some through.
    Then when you turn the fan on, that excess product in the lines finally gets by the blockage Making it appear that the meter is still dispensing.

    • @SilentMono
      @SilentMono Před rokem +2

      Came here to post exactly this, the lines are filling up and the fan is blowing it back out slowly hence the discrepancy and it ‘still dispensing’
      An east check would be to leave it running the fan with the meter rolls of and see how long product comes out for.

This one was a front loader for getting dumpsters from restaurants and small businesses. Brother, power washing that tank cart was paradise compared to what I faced. Head to toe in a Tyvek suit, hardhat with face shield, rubber gloves that go to my elbows and a rubber apron. When you blast a pocket of maggots and a full diaper and the contents of both are now on your pretty white suit, you know you've arrived. You've reached the pinnacle of power washing. When I finished the inside of my face shield was just as filthy as the outside, on account of me throwing up several times. I thought $28/hour? that is great! Now I know...now I know.

    Coming from a farm family in Indiana it is interesting to see the similarities/differences from here to Minnesota. It's funny, iold my dad about Zach's issues with the strip tiller. He laughed, cussed out the machine in Zach's favor, then said that he would've traded that thing off after 1 season. lol But he applauds you sticking with it Zach.

    Before you restarted your beautiful strip tiller, remember you mentioned that it was completely wack? It may have been left in an inconsistent state because the tractor didn't command it shut because it was whack. Sometimes you have to restart and then fully cycle the start/stop to make sure that everything is in a consistent state again.

    Here in Ny, we run two Kuhn strip tillers with liquid tanks. One is a 12 row and the other is a 16 row
