  • Cycling the world - Europe: 159 episode
    In the eighth episode of my bikepacking journey in Algeria, part of my endless cycling adventure around the world, I leave the wild camping spot in the hills of Oran where I had to relocate for safety the previous night. Overwhelmed by the size of Oran, I decide to continue cycling towards Mostaganem. My last night in Algeria is spent camping in an olive farm under the cover of darkness. The next day, I embark on the final stretch to Mostaganem and take the ferry back to Valencia. Join me as I conclude my Algerian adventure.

    Algeria is a large country with an area of more than 2.3 million square kilometers, i.e. the tenth largest in the world. It has many cultures, peoples and tribes. There are many places that are worth visiting, especially the Al-Bnad desert between El-Beidh and Timimoun, where it travels 100 kilometers amid endless sand.

    How would you rate the Algeria experience overall?

    • @DavideTravelli
      @DavideTravelli  Před 21 dnem +5

      It was a great experience but I didn’t have the chance to go deeper as I only had 3 weeks visa. For example in Morocco I stayed 4 months. Incredible hospitality and cheap food is definitely a plus. From a riding point of view it was quite challenging finding dirt roads but perhaps if I had planned the itinerary I would have been less surprised. Hopefully the cycling community in Algeria will start mapping out bikepacking route making them available for anyone to enjoy.
      The only real negative is the comments to the videos 😅 I had to filter them, it’s such a shit show.

      It will be a good few years before I have a chance to go back. I would defo recommend because I had a good time despite the shit show of the comments in the videos. 3 weeks was defo too short but that’s as visa restriction. I think the minimum to explore a bit t he country is at least 90 days.

    Mi dispiace, italiano, perché hai sprecato la tua opportunità di scoprire l'Oriente algerino, comprese le montagne e le pianure, come gli stati di Skida, Jijel, Constantine e Bejaia. Mi dispiace anche che tu abbia diffuso gli aspetti negativi della società algerina. come la vista della spazzatura e della sporcizia. Ma se andate a casa della società algerina, è più pulita di voi europei, perché noi musulmani facciamo le abluzioni cinque volte. Ogni giorno usiamo l'acqua nel bagno, ma voi la usate carta igienica da pulire. Abbiamo dignità, morale, una società impegnata e una famiglia impegnata. Possa Dio onorare noi arabi con l'Islam.

      Il mio intento è semplicemente quello di documentare il mio giro del mondo, condividendo le esperienze così come le vivo. Penso che sia puerile fare comparazioni tra paesi e tra regioni di un paese. Ho esplorato quanto potevo con le 3 settimane di visto che avevo a disposizione. Tu preferisci l’Oriente algerino, ti ricordo che è soltanto la tua opinione e la tua preferenza; sono sicuro che un sacco di algerini la pensano in modo differente. È arrogante da parte tua pretendere di rappresentare e poter parlare per tutto il popolo algerino: un peccato di superbia.
      Apprezzo la tua passione per l’Algeria e il desiderio di mostrare il meglio del tuo paese, ma io non ho un’agenda, semplicemente mostro quello che vedo. Ti informo che in Italia si usa il bidè.
      Non vedo perché non avrei dovuto mostrare la spazzatura se è un elemento che ho trovato ovunque durante il mio soggiorno.
