For the record, in Gen 1 and its remakes, the Channelers at Pokemon Tower are heavily implied to be possessed by their own Ghost Pokemon when battling you, and one of them does in fact say "I was possessed!" after you defeat her.

My private school banned pokemon and it wasn’t till I graduated that I saw the full scale of their manipulation. I truly think it steams back to that satanic panic of the 80s and so on. As much as I'd like to believe they were in some normal organization before and the sect of christianity they were pulled in was the *actual* cult, the fact that they apparently learned about 'demonic Ley lines' and 'dark vortexes' makes me believe the 'occult' they were involved with was actually pushing those beliefs and rather than being able to unlearn any of this, they are being taken advantage of another cult to induce fear and control

I remember some churches were even providing snacks for people playing the game sometimes. Like, "come on in, get a bag of Doritos, learn about Jesus if you want, just stay safe out there!" Truly that is the purest of all evils. Offering SNACKS to weary travelers in your CHURCH.

A Channeler (Japanese: きとうし Shaman) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that have only appeared in the Generation I games and their remakes. They are generally depicted as Shinto priestesses. They scared people away from Pokémon Tower and were possibly unwittingly helping Team Rocket make their base in the tower. Their strange behavior when challenging the player and their subsequent reaction after being defeated seems to imply that they were possessed by the ghosts they used while battling. In fact, some Channelers apologize after battle, saying "I was possessed!" when spoken to.
I vaguely do remember the possessed channelers and could have sworn one apologized for being possessed, but I do not remember any of them outright admitting that and being unable to battle as a result for sure.
They also, at the very least, say bizarre/creepy things prior to the battle, and allude to not being themselves after the battles. I'd have to play through one of the Kanto games again to see if there's any line that remotely resembles what he said, though.

@@Polarthief You're right on the money! There are online copies of the Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow game script if anyone else wants to take a look for themself. Just ctrl+f for "channeler" and you should find the quotes pretty quick. Plenty of the Channelers say they were possessed, but there's absolutely nothing about being unable to battle.
Wait until he discovers Pikmin Bloom where little demons follow you everywhere and force you to feed them berries to plant ‘flowers’ aka create new lay lines

I remember being a kid in the 90’s when the Pokémon craze hit. My mom let me and my twin sister watch the anime, but she refused to buy the cards or the games. All of our cards were given to us by other kids at school. Usually people who had duplicates would give them to us. She didn’t like that we had them, but saw that we often liked to hone our drawing skills by drawing the Pokémon on the cards we had. So she let us hold onto them for a while. Our cousins had the two Pokémon Stadium games and Pokémon Snap and we loved playing those any time we went swimming. Our mom didn’t like that we spent a good chunk of time at our aunt’s house playing the games instead of swimming, but there wasn’t much she could do if she wasn’t there. Our aunt didn’t mind us playing. I watched the anime and collected the cards up until 2003 or so. My sister had lost interest because our mom kept saying they were evil. She swears up and down today that this is not true, but she nudged me into giving my Pokémon cards to my cousins. I regret that so much. I had to stop watching the anime too. However, while we were still in school, I had an unknown intestinal issue and dangerously heavy periods. I missed a lot of school for both. On the days that my mom would go shopping, I would find reruns of the Diamond and Pearl anime and enjoyed it so much. Around the time that Black and White 2 came out, I decided that I was going to play the games. I secretly bought a used copy of White 2 and played it at night. Such a blast!
I am Baptist Christian, and always will be. I understand where many Christian parents’ concerns in the 90’s came from. For my mom, it was the fact that Pokémon could evolve and had Psychic or Ghost types. As Christians, we believe in Creation, not evolution. However, the way I see it is that the Pokémon are “growing” into a middle/teenage or adult form. If evolution and its principle of survival of the fittest were true in the case of Pokémon, Ash’s Pikachu or any pre-evolved Pokémon would die in the wild. They would go extinct and only their evolved forms would remain. Yes, Psychic and Ghost type Pokémon or moves can be seen as demonic, but to me they’re just different types of creatures. You can see them almost as races, none being 100% superior over another. Sure, there are super effective moves, not very effective moves, and full immunities, but no type or species of Pokémon is better than another. Pokémon CZcams videos where someone beats a game with a single Pokémon is proof of that! Human beings have strengths and weaknesses ourselves, different personalities. So do Pokémon.
It’s honestly up to people to research before they go out and produce videos with the claims this “Pokéman” guy came up with. My niece and nephew love playing the games and their parents (who are very devout Baptist Christians) are fine with it. I love the Pokémon franchise and my faith. I hope other people don’t bash on Christians as a whole because not all of us believe Pokémon is evil. There are some delusional nut jobs like this guy, sure. But not all of us have those beliefs.
I enjoy reading views of people like this as I've had almost the opposite family life growing up. My parents are against any form of faith or belief and often ridicule those who have it, so I thank you for your words.
I also won't ask you to do hours of research just for me, but if you have heard of Shin Megami Tensei or at least Persona 5 (as it was absolutely huge on the internet) I'm curious what you or your mother would think of the content in those titles.

I’m so happy I had such smart parents. My parents are , I’m Christian and I played tons of Pokémon as a kid and my parents knew there was nothing “anti-christian” about it. They even watched the show with me back then, and this was back during generation 1. Sad to see some stuff hasn’t changed.
My nana always told me to make sure it didn’t interfere with school but I can play the game and watch the show.
My parents are very religious. But they encouraged us to like things outside of church and god as well.
when the first pokemon movie was coming out and they had all the little toys at burger King, my younger sister was all about Pokemon. Our awesome parents (with help from our older siblings) got her EVERY SINGLE one of those toys and gave them to her for her birthday.
Heck my parents even played D&D in the 80s during the witch/demon/cult BS and though people who where freaking out about it where idiots.( I'm even named after a character from a fantasy book series)
My grandma was a librarian at BYU during the 40s-60's ( respectively) and absaultly LOVED horror, fantasy, and sci-fi and just nerdy stuff.
The sweetest little church lady with a love for cosmic horror, fantasy and Star Trek you would ever find.
She even got me Harry Potter books when I was a kid.

What I find very strange about Christians like this (being a Christian myself) is that they always insist no piece of media is good unless it directly preaches the teachings of Jesus Christ, like the Pureflix films do. To me, Christian movies, such as the pureflix films, are basically sermons and while I know a lot of Christians enjoy them, I personally don’t find them to be great representations of Christianity. There are plenty of great films I’ve seen that either showcase Christianity in a very unique and productive manner or carry Christian themes, yet no evangelical will watch them because they aren’t sermons

@@galesonic Well, Digimon isn't as big as Pokémon in that you rarely ever hear anything new about it, plus you'll more likely know about it if you follow news related to video games and anime anyway. If you don't, then you wouldn't know since it's not like back during the late 90s and early 2000s when it was it's most popular. And that was when it was advertised outside of Japan in a way that it was comparable to Pokémon and thus set up as a rival competitor due to the similar theme of monsters. But true that as of yet, I've never heard of any cases in which Digimon was given the same treatment of crazy claims that it's bad/evil as Pokémon had during its peak at that time.

I'm reminded of one comedian that talked about Lent I think. People need more holidays, temper yourselves like Jesus. I have my Masters in Theology, a BA in ministry and leadership, and Dr. in Divinity, and never once did any Christians, teachers or ministers discuss Pokemon being evil.

I think they only hear about a handful of Pokemon names and just assume all the names - in English and the original Japanese - are like "Hypno" so they never hear about the ones that are obviously just cat puns, or "snake" backwards.
It's funny they never bring up Golem, which is also the name of a sort of magical demonic entity in Jewish folklore. Gee I wonder why this subset of insane Christians don't bring up Judaism in their insane videos...

Yeah, I'm not (nor have I ever been) Christian, and I actively disagree with some of their beliefs, but that doesn't mean that they're all crazy people. People believe different things, and we can disagree and still get along. They've seemed to just have a reputation of forcing religion on others, and of course there are some people like that, but there are crazy people in every group; no idea why it gets generalized to "all Christians are crazy"...

I just want to go on record as both a Pokemon fan and a born and raised Catholic... This man doesn't speak for us. He represents everything we don't when it comes to religion.
I realize it's easy to see us all as lunatics like this guy, who would much rather blindly repeat the first thing he heard about "demons" than do even an afternoon worth of research. But the reality is that most of us are quiet, respectful, and just want to live out our lives like every other normal person. The only difference is we put our faith into something we feel is right for us.
I really wish this dude's comments weren't turned off on his video so I could inform him just how negative his affects are on those of us who do this properly. In a world where religion is already seen as a joke thanks to an extremely vocal minority, the last person we need on our side is the guy spreading lies in the name of it.

In terms of the "Can't fight now, I'm possessed", it's probably a line from the generation 1 channeler class, who get possessed by the ghost Pokemon, one of them even wants to drink blood. I found it interesting that Gastly's evolution line was part poison type, considered their possession some form of poisoned hysteria from being in close contact with the Pokemon.
