- Do you ever have one of those days when things just won’t go right?
The next time you have one of those days and your friction saver doesn’t come down, pull this little party trick out and impress the rest of your crew.
In this video we show you 2 method of rescuing your friction saver from the ground.
The first method is for when the friction saver gets stuck in a fork or caught on a stub.
The second method is for when you forget to attach a retrieval ball and pull your rope out but the friction saver stays in the tree.

The first 45 seconds of this video is exactly how it happens and looks, when you get your friction saver stuck. Lol
That montage of anger is basically every single time I use a throwline. Gotta start the day off right, with a solid barrage of cursing and unbridled rage.
Love how you capture the anger in that type of situation 😡😭😂 fantastic.
That intro was so cathartic. Too real.
That was by far the best advice for retrieving stuck anchors.
This man's great taking time to show people what he's learnt
Ah thats a class technique mate. If only our lecturers at merist wood knew that one 15 years ago, would have saved us having to climb back up those big old oaks again at the end of our climbing sesh!!
Thanks Dan, very helpful ! Appreciate your time to make this
“Retrieving your friction saver is easy! Just use your throwball line” you seriously overestimate my ability with a throwball.
LMAO! That was the most accurate example ever
Thanks Dan that was really great 👍🏻 you filmed that really well. All that’s left now then is to “go rescue that little bad boy!” ✌🏻🤘🏻
May the Good Lord bless you for sharing these tips! Now I can practice my friction saver installations higher than my Marvin pole saw can reach, LOL 🇨🇦
Love this, I will master this method "today". I know it's going to feel great to tell a helpful co-worker who's volunteering to rescue my friction saver, to stand down, at ease climber. My old and tired carcass has got this under control. Good looking out MR. Holiday, as usual. Very happy about your smart tactics😁🔥💪😎
You little beauty. Had a cambium saver stuck 12 metres up a tree. After a few expletives, not a good war dance like the one in your intro, nice, watched your video and plucked it out first time. Awesome
Well Dan what an excellent lineup of tips ! all excellent. I would share a long story but I’ll keep it short and simple, I had this happen to me a few years ago, I tied a log hook onto a rope, use the log hook to get my line free, although I don’t advise it, because I forgot about the point😳 I did not damage my rope or rings but I thought about it afterwards. Joe
Haha the start was very good:) Spot on tips, never heard of them before 👍
That beginning was hilarious, really represented the way you feel.
Thanks for the great tips! I know I will be trying to remember them the next time this happens.
The first bit of the video was me about half an hour ago as I was out practicing setting a friction saver. Tired on a limb about12 foot off the ground. Did fine. Then I tried on a higher limb, about 20 foot up. After I finally got the throw line over the limb (took FOREVER!!! lol) I noticed that I forgot to pass the throw line through the big ring of the friction saver. Started again. Several throws later... Everything going well...got the friction saver up... and then noticed that, somehow, I managed to get the cord twisted round the side with the big ring. After a several attempts, the only thing I could see to do was to let the cord down and leave the friction saver. Was low enough (was only practicing today thankfully) that I could use a long pole to knock it loose. Wish I'd seen this video first. Would have been something else good to practice. Do love your videos. Fantastic. Brilliant work.
Always at the end of the day on Friday. First part of the video is absolutely spot on! 🤣
