    I basically grew up in the back of old Volvo 240s and 740s. Great video! The sound of the airbox clips snapping closed was so satisfying haha

      I have cleaned my 240 engine bay by removing useless stuff and replacing parts that were dirty or rysty.
      100% worth it.

    Using cling film or aluminium foil is another good way to wrap around odd shaped parts instead of using the usual plastic bag.

    Very satisfying to watch! They just don’t make cars like that anymore, open an engine bay on a new car and you see an engine cover, battery terminals and screen wash, that’s it!

    Hey! I live in Finland and just bought myself a 740, same color as yours. Even tho I dont even have a license yet (just started my lessons at ripe age of 24). Im going to restore it to the best of my abilities this summer, as I dont have a garage and its dead winter now. Thank you for these videos, Im going to change my start motor today and work on the interior the best I can. Lets save old cars 🚙💙

    Just went through all your videos. It's great to see your 740 getting another chance at life! I've owned a 544, 145, 240 and 245 and loved them all. They're a lot more fun than most people give them credit for....easy to work on and reliable as hell. Hope you enjoy it.

    I'm in the process of cleaning the engine of my old merc as well, i am leaving the oil and fluid changes until after i clean it though so any water or moisture contamination gets taken away with the old oil and not ruin the new stuff

    Nice job, I normally would polish the painted parts of the fenders and hood with the same polish I used on the rest on the car. As well as for all the door insides. Basically everything that is painted.

      @@ejoautovideos Thank you, but i highly doubt it will happen. I tried lately, but money, time and space were short for the few specimens i've found. They were in junkyard shape and still not affordable. I guess i'll contend myself with the vintage car i already have. Something you never had in your area, i'm pretty sure.

    I like this volvo series. Here in Finland young people like to get these old rear wheel drive volvos and pretty much ruin them by lowering them and tinting the tale lights and back windows and usually paint them to look terrible and then bash them around during winter times. Guess it's the same in Sweden? Glad to see some one who doesn't do that. They're gonna be really hard to find in a good condition soon. 😭😭

    I"ll do similar job with my 93 volvo 240 wagon.Next spring,summer.It has original 250 th. km and almost from first owner(second owner had it for 9 years and did with it less than 40 th).It has most parts original and this means it neads a lot of detailing and maintenance work to be done...But am so so happy for this gem.This old volvos are great cars,not like todays plastic toys from China ..

    Great video I've owned 3 Volvos over the years and it's a special feeling driving one especially if it's manual. If Americans weren't so lazy there would've been more on the roads and easier to find at affordable prices

      •All purpose cleaner
      •Spray wax for painted surfaces
      •Carpro Perl for plastic trim

    This is amazing, makes me want to clean mine up as well. I think the rusty heat dispenser around the manifold always looks bad. Any idea's on that? I was just googling for a stainless steel one, but I couldn't find anything.

    Annother idea you could do is the fuel filter, which is underneath the car, that is part of the maintenance.

    Dude.. If you've got oil blowing from your oil cap, you need to clean/replace your PCV crankcase breather system. There should be a slight vacuum at the cam cover, if you've got positive pressure that causing oil to leak out then your engine won't last too long. The kit to replace is less than $100

    I would suggest you change, the crankcase gasket, and verify the screw to see if that needs changing, I think it also uses a washer of sorts to protect & prevent the oil from lea

    The 740, is looking better, it must be running better also, Thought the winter rims, could be retouched or repainted, in silver or black mate, to prevent rust, those same rims,somebody bought 4, and they come in black mate,.

      I thought how about changing the motor mounts, transmission mounts, or the muffler mounts, if any of these is cracked or past certain time, if any of these have to be replaced, a how to do it would be great,since some of the noises or hangings would decrease,and considering the area where they are they are exposed to heat water, road salt etc.

      Yes, they are all good :) Coolant and radiator was changed just before I bought it.

    You should really change thermostat, cooling fluid and coolant cap valves should be checked (i would replace cap to new). Gives huge difference in fuel economy and heating speed.

    Scotty kilmer is against steam cleaning engines. He says just use brake cleaner and spray if there are grease spots. I once had it done to my Volvo 740 GLE 16 VALVE in 1991. The car wash covered the distributor I believe. However one really needs to know what they are doing. It could be thousands in potential damage.
