  • In this video Cody will show you how to replace the Harman Kardon speakers in your Mercedes Benz. These speakers have been discontinued and therefore there is not a direct-fit option on the market. Cody with FlyByTire solves that problem for you in this video!

    I just installed these REF-6530cx speakers in my '11 C63 using this walk-thru, and I'm very impressed! They're a massive upgrade--much louder, clearer, and punchier than the factory ones. And this install video was really helpful, but note that my w204 speakers were only single-coil so I didn't have to do this hack described here.
    Anyone attempting w204 speaker replacement must watch this video! 👏

    I need your help I have 2004 mb e320 so I replaced head unit and all door speakers went with JL c1 components in front and coax in rear. I also worked a sub amp up and running a kicker L712. So I needed another head unit so I got xtrons headunit and bought 2nd amp to power door speakers kicker 4 channel. So I took out the harmon amp. Super hard to get it out was in trunk and left side wall. So how do I wire up 4 channel amp in it place so I can eliminate the fiber optics completely. So I have wiring diagram and I guess I am only going to use the 4 JL door speakers so I have all the colors of wires so should I cut the wires off harmon amp of the 4 door speakers and wire that to kicker amp so now I can use the power remote and ground off harmon amp. Rca to head unit were do I plug them to head unit? I used the sub out rca and ran y adapter to rca and then to sub amp. So rca for 4 channel were do they go on headunit. Also as far as the door speakers do I have to run new speaker wire? I am lost now pleas help

    I prepping for a front and back door speaker replacement on a 2014 CLA 250. It looks time consuming and I have two kids, but I'm going to give it a go.
    My concerns is that I purchased a three way 4 ohm speaker and I'm not sure if the tweeters will engage. Basically I'm asking if the connectors on the factory speakers are only going to play the mid range frequencies since it's been crossed over and the component setup is relying on the tweeters near the windows.
    This is is not my profesion or passion so I apologies for the misuse of any terms. Any help would be greatly appreciated- thanks.

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  Před měsícem +1

      To my knowledge, it doesn't filter the frequencies going to the speakers (except for the sub) but that may not be the case on newer models. I will say that putting tweeters in your door panel and leaving the window tweeters in-place will likely not sound very good. Too much high-end. Running 4-ohm speakers you'll likely get even less low-end to begin with on a 2-ohm system. Doesn't hurt to try things out though. Everyone likes different sounds. If you're happy with the way it sounds, that's what counts. Hope this helps!

      I appreciate the feedback. I'm still considering putting in the work or returning the speakers. It looks like a lengthy job and I'm a little worried it's not worth the time.

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  Před 3 měsíci

      From my experience with this Harman Kardon system, I would recommend getting something similar. Whether that is the original 2 ohm dual coil speakers from Benz or aftermarket 3 ohm Infinity speakers like in my case. As long as you get something with similar specs, it should sound good. A lot of the normal 4 ohm speakers that you find at the audio store simply won't cut it though if you want to retain the original amp and sound system.

    • @daveknapp2000
      @daveknapp2000 Před 8 měsíci

      speakers always work without an amplifier....just how loud you want to push the speakers with clarity is all. The amplifier just "amplifies" the peak of the electrical wave or more accuratley stated the "power" of the electrical signal to move against the magnet thus producing more forceful sound "vibrations".

    Did yours fill cabin with smoke before speakers cracking and failing? Had 22 MBs of various models through the last 20 years. 4 have had this failure with HC system. Seems like it’s between 70-100k every time. Required new Amps and speakers every time. Little scary if you aren’t “used to it”.

    • @leeberry174
      @leeberry174 Před rokem

      Yeah! I had a tweeter catch fire and several channels on the amp die one hot day. Probably other dead drivers too, I need to test them when I source a replacement amp. Given your experience, it would seem this amp might be prone to thermal runaway🔥

    How would you tell which way the polarity is suppose to go and thus know that you need to reverse the red and black wire connections?

    • @FlyByTire
      @FlyByTire  Před měsícem

      You can connect a battery to the speaker such as a AA or a 9V to test positive or negative. If the positive side of the battery is hooked to the positive side of the speaker, it will poke out when you make a connection. If it sucks in, you have it backwards. You can test the old speaker coming out using the same method if you are not sure of the car's wiring.

      If it's like my W212, the plastic circle in the middle of the rear deck speaker cones becomes loose after blasting loud music for a few years. I'm sure they can be glued back on, but I just removed mine and it sounds great again. It is a bit involved to get to the deck speakers on my model, but it was worth the trouble.

      vibration noise is usually loose wire connection and then secondarily bad voicecoil which can be replaced at speaker repair shop...you could have them check the magnet also....it is the interplay of the magnet with the "voicecoil" that makes the speaker move. Parts for the voicecoil are cheap...but the knowledge on how to repair takes time. Suggest highquality voicecoil as you can buy JBL, Infinity, but brands don't really matter...it is how it's made. Ask around at an electronic parts store.....

      Hi Vilmos, thanks for watching! If you are referring to the door speakers, yes it is the same impedance of 2 ohms. If you are talking about the subwoofer, that might be different although I doubt it is. The easiest way to find out is to get yourself an inexpensive multimeter and measure it. Hope this helps!

      Hi, thanks for your previous answer.Now I have a another problem with the H K system in my 2006 CLS. The bass power weakens after a short time I turn the music on. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery, it’s fine for a while but then it starts again, sometimes it only takes 5 minutes and other times I get up to an hour of normal function. The front door speakers loose the bass power the most. Could it be the amplifier failing, or can the speakers cause this as well?

    FYI - with these cars the door will not lock when the door is open, which is why you thought it was broken but it's not. By design the lock switch will lock all the other doors but not an open driver's side door. Just in case you hit the lock button by mistake, close the door, and then realize your keys were left in the car.
