    This is called an "Inverted" topology for the woofer components; the coil extends from the front of the cone so that the magnet can be placed inside the void of the cone. This works well at low frequencies but not so well for midrange and high frequencies, so it is normally done for woofers. But it also provides the most benefit on woofers, because they normally have more physical depth. Also - the discoloration you notice on the cone, dust cap, and spider is due to many years of exposure to ultraviolet light, which attacks the dyes in the cone and causes it to become hard and brittle, and it also does the same to the foam surround. Harman, Bose, Alpine, ASK, Panasonic, and PSS all produce some inverted-style subwoofers.

    Hi, I have a problem with the H K system in my 2006 CLS. The bass power weakens after a short time I turn the music on. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery, it’s fine for a while but then it starts again, sometimes it only takes 5 minutes and other times I get up to an hour of normal function. The front door speakers loose the bass power the most. Could it be the amplifier failing, or can the speakers cause this as well?
    Many thanks!

    • @AudioTherapy0
      @AudioTherapy0  Před 2 lety

      I think it will be failing amplifier. But if bass stops abruptly then it might also be speaker.

      @@AudioTherapy0 Thank you! Bass is still there but not that sharp as it is when the battery is reconnected. It sounds more like an average audio system.
      Are these amps serviceable?
      Many thanks!

    • @bleachstain9785
      @bleachstain9785 Před rokem

      @@W15Garage these amps are not serviceable, they’re run off of optical (laser) cable, and you are incredibly hard pressed to find anyone with the rig to diagnose them like that.
      Most just swap out the failing amp.
      That being said, the front drivers are pushed semi-hard on a fair bit of bass frequencies, and the amplifier does have LF/RF/LR/RR channel specific protection circuits to protect the drivers from outright blowing up. If your amp is cutting out only one driver, there’s a likelihood the glue holding the cone to the spider has failed, and the voice coil is very possibly beyond saving.
      Infinity is owned by Harman Kardon, as is JBL, both the Kappa line from Infinity, and the older GTO line from JBL are modernized variants of the drivers that went into these Mercedes. Use an OEM, or replace them with the drivers listed above to rule out a failing amp.
      The amps in these cars do often fail mechanically from liquid exposure, and electrically from having too many protection incidents. Logic 7 system is Audio 50 option for Benz, if you’re getting a replacement amp, verify the VIN number has that option listed under the build sheet on VinDecoderz.

The system is Harman/Kardon Logic7 and it works differently every time the car is started. Sometimes everything works normally, but on the next ignition, only the rear left door and subwoofer work. i will be glad if someone can help me with advice on what and where to look.

    • @bleachstain9785
      @bleachstain9785 Před rokem

      I replied to Vilimos above in the main comment thread.
      My comment there will pertain to your issue as well, but it sounds like a failing amplifier may be the cause of yours. Although you can diagnose that it’s not the laser input cable by going to the drivers rear in the trunk, pulling the panel off, and locating the orange plug for the laser connector, wiggle it and the cable running out of it about ONLY A LITTLE (It’s very fragile) while you have music going and someone to listen in the car, if there’s changes in the audio from that then you need a new laser cable, which is on a giant laser loop in the car and costs almost $1,200 for replacement.
      If that is the case, you’d be better suited spending that money on an aftermarket headunit, and a 4/1 or 6/1 channel aftermarket amplifier to drive the speakers and subwoofer.
      Best of luck, and update me in this thread if you need any further help.

    • @bleachstain9785
      @bleachstain9785 Před rokem

      @@AngryLoser9690 yes, I did not add an amplifier to my 8 inch Kappa, however I did have to make an adapter plate to fit the factory mounting location and I did have to cut out a hole and what would’ve been the factory subwoofers grill from the sheet metal given how the cone was oriented.
      It’s just as loud if not a little louder than stock, clarity has significantly improved. That being said when I had the sub out I discovered a dead sub channel on my amplifier, so the Kappa will gladly take half of the factory power and still sound just as loud, with a significant uptick in clarity and responsiveness.

    Excellent video, one of the best I've seen on CZcams. I'll be going into my HK 7.1 speakers in the near future so I ordered up a frequency generating cable for my phone and the proper glues for doing the job. I loved the sound when I got the car but it has degraded over time. New speakers are unobtanium so repair is the way to go, and, to be honest, it's probably preferred. In my research I found that if you made a 3.5mm adapter cable for your phone, and put out a 50Hz continuous tone, you can adjust the spider when you are gluing it so that the voice coil does not rub. This seems to be preferred over shimming and looks easier. There's a video on that here => czcams.com/video/NpMYZq-qQNo/video.html
    I haven't done the job yet but your video will help a great deal. Thank you for making it !!

      +PetruV Hi there! I didn't dissolve the glue because that glue was like paraffin and it came off very easily. In some cases when speaker parts are glued with epoxy, i use hair dryer or heating gun to loosen that epoxy. If it is just a regular speaker glue, then I use acetone. But keep in mind that the acetone can damage plastics and some materials that are sometimes used in speaker.
