  • I'm tired of people being dishonest when peddling their junk online. I've seen Ford eight cylinder air cleaners with $400 price tags which are a joke. In this video, we acquire some cheap old parts and make a far nicer one. Hope you enjoy!

    My brother in-law installs and designs vinyl advertising splashes for glass. He always uses a mist of water and a bit of dish soap that makes it just slippery enough to manipulate and express the trapped air bubbles easily. Try that next time. My experience with it is that it works very well. Thanks for all the hard work behind the scenes to pull off these well-made videos.

    Good on you Pete. I'm so pleased that I have a 62 Falcon - the financial penalty for having an XY-shaped Falcon is ridiculous.
    Love the miscellaneous soundtrack that you included. Thanks for your work.

      Thanks Jeff, yes there's a '70s tax on Falcon parts - some charge a few percent and others charge a few hundred. Cheers

    Pete I had the same problem with my Torino air cleaner it had 1/2 holes drilled in it when I bought the car and I looked for a while and just found one and got it for 10$. I'm doing the same thing on the Torino I'm not going for a show winner just what I want I'm taking all the chrome off and making it a plane Jane good job on your refinishing your A/C.

    I like what you do with your cars. Like you said, not concourse but beautiful nevertheless.
    I admire people who can build to concourse level but apart from the expense it's the patience to wait to find that elusive part then either it'll cost you a kidney or you'll give up and get the part scratch built. I wouldn't have the patience, or certainly the money, to build concourse. Built it big, bold, and beautiful and ready for a new life.
    Good on you Peter, I love your videos.

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie Před 7 lety

      +Ellesmere Wildwood I know what you mean about building for concours, it really must be an absolute obsession. I know a couple of people who have built concours cars and they both said that getting the car absolutely dead right after the actual restoration was finished cost as much as the restoration did in terms of all the ultra-elusive and highly prized original small parts and took years to achieve as, going along, they learnt more about the vehicles, how they were originally assembled and all the really minor detail differences that no-one would ever notice and, in some cases, may have only been seen on a few cars during a change-over period...

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 7 lety

      Thank you very much... yes, I don't see the point of a concours restoration on this car and like breathing life into old redundant stuff. Even if I won the lottery, I'd still approach cars the way I currently do. Cheers

    • @gosportjamie
      @gosportjamie Před 7 lety

      +Peter Anderson I've always felt that cars were built to be driven and enjoyed. I struggle to see the point of restoring a car so perfectly that you're then scared to drive it, but I can understand that that is enjoyment for some people, I just would rather a car be built to be driven and enjoyed as that also gives more people the chance to see and enjoy it too...

    Good day Pete I love your videos , as an ex gm mechanic you have brought back many memories , I love the way you do things with your cars , yes it might not be quite right to a purist but is a lot more functional . My only complaint is since you have had what I guess is sponsorship in making your videos it takes for ever to watch one as I have to constantly turn you of to let it down load , no I do not have this problem with most other videos on u tube , was just wondering if there is a reason for this ? All your earlier work played just fine , anyway Pete I love what you do . Cheers

    Great channel, Peter. Not sure how I ended up here, or how learning about rebuilding old V8s is going to help this late-model Yaris owner... subbed nevertheless :-) (FWIW I have owned a couple of Ford V8's in my time... a ZD Fairlane, and a P6 "Rolls Royce front" LTD)

    very nice! I have my late father's 64 Ford Galaxie 500. I have it restored for memories and as a hobby, but these concourse restorers drive up the parts like crazy. NOS parts are like gold. Parts that cost 5.00 back in the day are now 500.00! Stupid! It kills it for the little guys.

    Another great Video. I know how you feel about the heat in the shed when trying to paint. I've got things in my shed I am waiting to paint as its too hot. Maybe an aircon is in order :)

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Stephen, I never paint in temperatures over 22 deg... The stuff I was using on the engine is air dry enamel... stays tacky for a while so fine to use in hot weather... the wet edge of the paint as you shoot it isn't an issue in the higher temperatures. Having said that, an engine is the only thing I'd use it on. Cheers

    Another excellent, very informative video!
    For the sake of us Americans (or, at least, this newbie and uninformed American), do you have a video wherein you explain the difference between XA, XB, XC, etc.? For example, is the '69 XW a sub-model of the '69 Falcon, or does it indicate something else?
    Even if you choose not to cover this, thank you for your videos! Most excellent all around!

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks Ryan, I hadn't thought of it... Throughout the sixties, Australian Falcons were basically RH drive American ones. In late 1966 the XR was launched as the first V8 model, it was followed by the face lifted XT, XW then XY which finished in early 1972. These were the last American Falcons. The XY was replaced with the XA which was the "first" Australian Falcon, although it still contained a huge American content and looked a little like a Torino. The XA was replaced by the face lifted XB then XC. The XC was the last model to have a heavy American design theme. In March 1979 the XD was released with took on a more European appearance, closely resembling the Ford Granada of the time... Cheers and thanks for your comments.

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 4 lety +2

      There are a range of Ford 'Corporate Blue' colours used in the past. In my opinion, the ones available in rattle cans are never anything like the originals. The earlier darker blue is correct for the XR- XY and then they went to a paler hue. I mixed this colour to what I considered to be correct for this later model... there's always the chance it isn't absolutely correct, but it's close, cheers.

    Looking good Pete, How did that rear bumper I put you on to turn out? Have you seen the XC indicator stalk on ebay for $700? Is your indicator stalk in a plastic housing or aluminium?

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 7 lety

      Great thanks and if I didn't thank you already I'm really sorry. I bought it and it's fantastic - so difficult to find these days. Yes, I saw the indicator stalk for $700... I thought it was $730... Another reason why I painted mine. I was thinking of getting the symbols at the end of the stalk made up as transfers, applying them to the painted stalk then clear coating over them... just never got around to it. Thanks again for your comments and the bumper tip off. Cheers

    Do you know it creates more pollution, waste and emissions to Produce just ONE Prius or Tesla than it will EVER offset in it's whole life, even if somehow the planets aligned and it lasted 50 years. It's actually better to get something like an older V8, just like Peter is doing right now (either a holden / chev / or small block ford, a mild rebuild, put a torquer or RV cam in it, a smaller holley like a 570 (they really ARE designed to bolt on most any engine out of the box and work!) give it a HEI dizzy and a decent set of headers, and my secret weapon "the 3.5"single system. proven to make more torque than a twin system in every dyno test I've seen, cheaper, but the yanks persist with the twins, they have to be stuck in the 70's when it was a street cred thing. When if you didn't have the extra pipe in clear view, the neighbours might think you only ticked the 6 cylinder option, and you couldn't have that!
