XA Falcon Wagon Pt3 - Rust
We found a way to open the bonnet on our wagon and love the view! This is a gem... kind of. With the grill, headlight buckets, front bumper, stone tray and both guards removed, we can clearly see the extent of the structural issues we need to address. There's some great news and some not so great. Hope you enjoy!

ZK Fairlane Pt11 - More Fitting Out
zhlédnutí 4KPřed dnem
Quite a lot in this chapter; we fit most of the dash and associated parts to the Fairlane, we take a look at some rust cuts for both XA Falcons, we fit the handbrake and some of the front suspension and steering apparatus and we start bending up and fitting some brake lines. There's a bit more too, so I hope you enjoy!
XA Falcon Wagon Pt2 - Clean and Examine
zhlédnutí 8KPřed 14 dny
Here we have a pretty close look at the XA Falcon 500 wagon. There will be two videos detailing the condition, as there was insufficient time to blow the car apart to the level we needed. There are many surprises, some good and some not so good. Hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt10 - Starting the Fit Out
zhlédnutí 3,6KPřed 21 dnem
Not a huge amount here, but we do get the heater A/C box and insulation installed, as well as the steering box, brake booster and master, plus the beginnings of wiring. Once I find where I left a few of the parts, a whole raft of other parts can join the party haha, hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt9 - Painting the Engine Bay and More
zhlédnutí 4,6KPřed měsícem
In this video, we drain the fuel tank in preparation for safe storage and remove all fuel and vapour related lines from the car. This will allow us to safely chop into the back of the car and replace any rusted metal with new. The engine bay gets painted as stated and although not my best work, looks okay. Now we just need to sort through all the fittings and fasteners in preparation for re-ass...
ZK Fairlane Pt8 - Preparing Engine Bay, Removing Fuel Tank and Plumbing
zhlédnutí 3,5KPřed měsícem
Not as much as I'd like to include in this chapter, but some important items get attended to. We send a load of dirty parts off for hydroblasting and zinc plating, clean up the engine bay and prepare for paint and look at the fuel return plumbing and decide on its removal after comparing it to the original V8 XD Falcon. We also drop the fuel tank as well as find a few other things that require ...
A Parts Hack, or a Fixer? Introducing the XA Falcon Wagon Pt1
zhlédnutí 7KPřed měsícem
Just a quick video this time... I wasn't going to say anything about this old hack until it turned up, which won't be until later in the month. So XA Wagon? Not planned but one of those things which showed up and I snapped at... Take a look and see what you reckon. Hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt7 - Steering Box Re-assembly and Heater Box Refurbish
zhlédnutí 3,4KPřed měsícem
So we now have a reconditioned engine, transmission, steering box, heater box and some new parts for the front end. This video (as the title says) deals with the second half of the steering box reco and the heater box. We strip the heater box, clean it up, fit new foam to the interior doors and flaps and fit a new heater core. Hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt6 - Front Suspension and Steering Box Tear Down
zhlédnutí 3,7KPřed 2 měsíci
We totally strip the front and of the Fairlane and remove the steering box. The usual consumable wear with the front end; upper and lower control arm and radius rod bushes, sad looking tie rod ends, totally knackered spring saddles and a pair of unwanted 6 cylinder springs. But, the part I was interested in was the leaky steering box, which virtually ran along the chassis rail to the back seat ...
ZK Fairlane Pt5 - The Repaired Plenum Chamber Plus More
zhlédnutí 4,2KPřed 2 měsíci
Well, here's the second part of our plenum chamber repair, although I did lose some re-assembly footage. Despite the beginning of Winter being upon us and other items to attend to, I'm happy with the progress. Hope you enjoy!
Ford C4 Transmission Overhaul - Reassembly
zhlédnutí 4,6KPřed 3 měsíci
Well, we have replaced all the worn and suspect parts in the transmission including all steel and friction clutch plates, the intermediate band, the sprag clutch rollers and springs, the govenor and front pump rings, the front pump gear set, all thrust washers and the modulator valve. We have also replaced all rubber seals for the servo pistons, as well as the forward clutch and reverse/high cl...
What Have I Been Doing?
zhlédnutí 3,5KPřed 3 měsíci
Just a quick five minute video explaining the work I've been doing on the Fairlane rust issues and the C4 transmission rebuild. I have loads of footage of both jobs, so should be able to finish them over the following week... certainly hope so, my memory card is fast filling up haha... Anyway, hope you enjoy!
ZK Fairlane Pt4 - The Rusty Plenum Chamber Repair
zhlédnutí 4,4KPřed 4 měsíci
In this video, we tear apart the top of the Fairlane's plenum chamber, cut the rust out and (almost) finish the repair. Hope you enjoy!

  • @f100sCUSTOMSCLASSICS

The amount of parts you need to keep track of is staggering!

  • @gerardcottingham5225

Xa was ford's first Australian foray in building a car from scratch, and ford's engineers were informed by the ntsb that occupants were getting worse injuries in accidents than they should, and after the engineers did a thorough investigation discovered that the xa was to strong, so for the xb the structural steel was thinner, and had less spot welds so the energy wasn't transferred to the occupants

I'm looking at this and I reckon it would be awesome to see a resto back to original. You just don't see bone stock old Falcon's, Kingswood or Valiant's anymore. Of course this is just my personal preference but if I was to see this parked next to an equivalent GT or something I'd be all over the wagon! Everyone does a GT but no one does a base model. These were the bread and butter of Australia back in the day.

You're absolutely correct in my view. It'll go back to its original colour with colour coded steelies and dog dish hubcaps. I will put a period correct 302 in with the correct air cleaner etc and give it power steering too... just a few other cars to finish first.

    • @davepax982
      @davepax982 Před 4 dny

@@PeterAndersons you could also widen those steelies for effect! What shifter location are you thinking of? A column auto with a pair of buckets and a divider would make it a superb cruiser. Just slip in a few throw rugs, coffee table and some pillows and you will have the perfect mobile lounge room!

Imagine your xc but in a wagon! 250 out 302 in, c4, fairmont grille, gs bonnet, snow white with 14 x 8 12 slots on the front and 14 x 10s on the rear air shock rake and that same wagon roof rack all polished up, and two baby seats in the back!!!!! Cool as. BTW I have a bargain XB for you. I sent a message to grahams restos page. I know you have heaps of cars but wanted to hit you guys up first before advertising elsewhere. cheers

put a pice of aluminium food carton foil over the bolts then jam the socket over them, shims the head out enough (still watching) bottom of the front sills look bad like anything while its all still in place, once its all cut away its alot easier to see the way back, i think you should make this into a nice one not just a banger absolutely no problem fixing the front sill section etc, like you say its just time and willing to do it, great car!! i'd go with new sills and ct the lower skin sections off the A, B pillars and D if need be then you have a full new sill with just a lower skin section to refit on the pillars, never worked on the same car there before so i dont know if the pillar skins are the only pillar section over the top of the sills in my opinion better than doing the long weld along the length of the sills, could be a pita if it warps

You seem to be getting more good surprises than bad ones. XAs were a very rare sight in my early 80s childhood recollections. Noticed plenty of XBs and XCs. A fellow church parishoner had a white sedan which was the first I ever noticed. They upgraded to a white XC sedan by the mid 80s.

Anything is worth fixing if it is valuable to you. Plenty of people restore cars and other things that have limited money value, because the thing is either beautiful in their eyes or has aesthetic appreciation, or has some other sentimental value or appreciation for craftsmanship, or historical significance. Not every value is about money. And btw, the XA Falcon is a very nice looking car, one of the better designs created by Ford Australia.
