The new Mustang Mach-E GT is the high-performance version of Ford's already succesful first venture into the EV marketplace. With 480 HP and 634 lb/ft of torque, AWD, and magnetic ride suspension, you know it's going to be quick. And with styling updates, better seats, and new materials, it's got visual and practical improvements to boot. But at nearly $70,000 as tested, will Matt have regrets over the "regular" Mach-E he already owns?
How is Matt liking his personal Mach-E? Find out here!

“They are healthy people” lmfao man you kill me
They should have a "Bareback" drive mode option for when you disable all the stability and traction controls.
Mustang Crowd Control Mode
Lawsuit mode
Brokeback
I wouldn't want to race an STI on bareback mode
I drive an AWD Audi. In my old one, you could turn it all off, but on the new one it says it's off but it will jump in if things look bad. I turned off all the stability an TC in my old one ONCE and would never do that again the rest of the time I owned it. My new Audi has 140 hp more and 130 ft lbs tq more and makes more torque everywhere and HP is still climbing when the ECU goes to cut fuel at 7000+ rpm. If you are on it and you hit a crack in the road in second gear the TC light comes on as the tires spin. I wouldn't want to turn TC completely off.
I hope Ford is listening because that upgraded seats, mag ride, smaller wheels, higher profile tire setup is exactly what I'd want as well. And YES, makers of EVs, STOP putting frequently used functions into touch screens! Sure it's cost effective and (for now) it's perceived to be high end but it's bad human factors for driving.
A Dodge Ram array of buttons is far more dangerous then a well labeled well lit central location.
@@Birdsaregovspys6969 I am not anti-touch screen, I am anti "put everything in a touch screen." I will argue that well placed buttons and dials that are dedicated to actuate the most commonly used functions in any automobile are far less dangerous than embedding them into a touch screen. Reasons why:
1) At 70mph/112kph, a driver is traveling over 100ft/30m per second. If it takes only 3 seconds for a driver to divert their attention to actuate something, they have traveled the distance of about three football pitches or about a 30 story building on its side. The more time it takes to negotiate with a touch screen, the less time that driver is tending to the business of driving.
2) As a driver becomes accustomed to their interior, even a Dodge Ram, they'll learn exactly where a control is and not need to take their eye off the road to actuate it. Many buttons have brail-like bumps on them just for that reason. Touch screens always need a driver to divert their attention to reading a screen, hovering a finger over the screen on a bumpy road while reading it is uncomfortable and unnatural. I takes longer and more effort to complete the same task.
3). Many touch screens require 2 to 4 step presses to get to a desired function. Some touch screens now require a deep dive for the most absurdly simple things such as re-directing a climate vent, or a mirror. While touch screens do de-clutter, are a fun light show that makes a person think they spent more money for something cool and (shhhhhh) are vastly cheaper for manufacturers to make over dedicated dials/buttons: in practice, they open up more opportunities to miss-press or double press a feature (as illustrated in this review). This means to do something that used to take a second in an '05 accord is taking 4 to 10 seconds in a '22 Mach E. This can also cause undue frustration and agitation to actuate something that was once so simple to do. This again, takes someone away from the business of driving.
@@wizardmix Maybe you are from a different generation that struggles with touch screens and devices similar. There is nothing wrong with that its not like you grew up with those always in your hands. Me being 26 I type on my iphone without looking screens are a non issue. As far as car infotainment systems I find it far far easier to adjust things like radio, climate control, navigation ect much easier on our teslas then say our Porsche 991.2. Maybe it is the amount of miles I drive on each car that I am more familiar with any control I need on the tesla. But I strongly feel that it is actually easier because everything is in one location that is well lit and easy to read with my bad eyes without taking too much attention from the road. The 911 I am constantly looking down at the center console playing climate control or music roulette. Now combine climate control roulette with a complete lack of basic safety systems a $18,000 Toyota comes with for free and the 911 is far more likely to end up in a accident with me driving due to being distracted than my Tesla.
This is not just a tesla thing. My toyota prius prime was almost exclusively controlled through the touch screen as well and I was much happier with that layout then the prius C i replaced that was all normal buttons.
@@louisvanbelkum1778 You have a nice array of vehicles for being as young as you are.
I'm 42 and surrounded by touch screens and technology. It is very much intrinsic to my business. I've been ahead of the curve and embracing new tech for decades and sparing you a lengthly explanation, let's just say "being out of touch" is how a person would define me.
My take-away here is that we all can prefer what we've grown accustomed to and in your case, the UX of the Tesla has grown on you to a level that you prefer it to a sea of dedicated buttons. I can understand that. It doesn't change my conviction that three presses on a touch screen are easier than one press of a dedicated button when I want to actuate the "recycle air" function in my car.
It is true. I'm older and I did grow into adulthood in a place and time where a device was not tracking and collecting data on every single thing I do, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Don't get me wrong, knowing what it was like before this has me in constant awe of the technology boom, BUT unlike those younger than me, it's not exactly needed to make my life complete. I know how to do with out. I lived it and I do feel bad for the generations who cant experience that frame of reference.
For what it is worth, here is what I've noticed in my (coincidental) 26 years of driving: When I was in my 20's, I used to get all huffed up about older drivers. Living next to a major university as I do, I've noticed the far worse ones are in their early 20s. In aggregate, the drivers I encounter on my day to day have become far less attentive, far less spatially aware and show a considerable lack of skill to the point where I find it shameful they were allowed a license at all. This coincides with a sharp rise in devices and stimuli that reside within the greenhouse that tend to take one's focus off the business of driving or go so far as to suggest: "It's okay, I've got this, here's some drop menus to play with."
I can and have parallel parked 27' commercial vehicles with a 15' trailer using only side mirrors as my guide and I see people considerably younger than me not able to manage a CRV into a generous gap in spite of the 360º surveillance cameras, sensors and the rest. I'm honestly embarrassed for them. My day to day driving feels more like navigating a Japanese gauntlet show full of absent-minded obstacles, seemingly unwilling to realize their relationship to other cars on the road than it does feel like I'm with young professionals who have a sense of what they're doing.
In almost every case, I see that person staring down or not paying attention as though they have some social disorder that prevents them from engaging in an amicable way with their fellow drivers.
This is what I'm seeing as someone whose been here a little bit longer than you and it's why I prefer, while driving, to be less bothered by complex screen based systems that even the most skilled UX designer can spend too much time on to actuate a simple task.
also please stop making connected cars, just extra money and extra tracking
I love that when you edited this with the reverse shot you left the car going backwards at the 4:20 mark.

@@xavriz You're defending a 4-door suv\crossover that mostly "Karen's" are going to drive. Why? Because they decided to call it a mustang since ford hasn't had an original thought for some time now? They just rip off and copy everyone else (tesla this time), and as you can see not much has changed.
You could double the power and the range, and I still wouldn't want to drive this anymore than I would want to drive a v6 mini-van. It looks like another generic wad of crap with mustang tail lights. Fancy.

12:05 Tesla seems to get around this by having the first ~50% of the throttle gently mapped for everyday driving, then at a certain point you hit a wall where it just goes ballistic
There's no wall, no surprises. It's a gradual increase. It may be a logarithmic curve, but as you press the throttle you get a smooth increase in power. No one who owns and drives one has ever complained (that I've heard) about an unmanagable throttle.
another great vehicle review. i still think you are both the best auto review team on YT. just fantastic information.
I’ve always thought “ground speed” was in homage to the P51.

Excellent review! Totally agree, AWD premium with a MagneRide damping option would be excellent! The hp for RWD was possibly a typo, here are the various premium model ratings:
Standard Range Batt RWD - 317 ft-lbs, 266 hp
Extended Range Batt RWD - 317 ft-lbs, 290 hp
Standard Range Batt AWD - 428 ft-lbs, 266 hp
Extended range Batt AWD - 428 ft-lbs, 346 hp
How with all the software are you not able to adjust the suspension/steering/throttle independently?
Big wheels look cool but a couple inches makes a huge difference in the performance and ride quality you can eke out of a car with a little more tire!
Great video guys!
that BMW at 10:00 got the coolest drive by shot of all time.
Jazz up the walk around with drone views from above.
@TheSmokingTire Hi Guys, I was wondering if you tried any high speed passing and noticed a large drop in acceleration like that has been posted on the forums? The car seems to do the 1/4 pretty quick (mid 12's) but a really low trap speed of just over 100 mph. In the video you were on a the tighter section but don't know if you took it out on any long straight sections.
Zach, a Model Y Perf is $62k. Only options are a other colors for $1k and FSD (Scam) for $10k.

Loved the review. I'm headed to LA next week to drive around in a rented sports car. What road is this?

After driving the Mach E for a bit, certain functions should be hard buttons. Changing mode, 1 pedal are 2 of them.
7:15 Ford should have fun with this propulsion sound for low speeds. They could offer different engine sounds to toggle through (V8, V12, or "The Jetson's" mode).
Does the windshield fall out ? Recall
Looks, sounds and probably feels like a rollercoaster.
Hey Matt & Zach! I've been waiting to order my MMEGTP until you all got your hands on one. Everything I had concerns about, the new suspension, the wheel choice, the seats, and more were all things I was curious about. I have one last question in regards to this vehicle. What do you think about the "performance limiting" that happens at higher freeway speeds and extended sportier driving. Does the car suddenly become gutless after an hour or so of canyon carving? Or is it not a deal breaker?
Another channel using Unbridled extend hit thermal limit after TWO laps in a parking lot course. This required a cool down lap before another Lap could be made, repeat... Also still awaiting a 1/4 mile pass in Unbridled, but seems everyone will only show Engaged mode... Why so cryptic?
That would be a huge deal breaker until someone makes tuning software to turn off any and all network communications/nanny modes like you described. Or better yet, just wait and buy an electric vehicle from a company that doesn't try to limit what you can do with it like Tesla does with rebuilt/blacklisted ones. I can't wait till there is a bigger network of aftermarket tuners that can code things to whatever we can imagine. The future will be quiet and really, really quick.
The Mach E GT, like most EV's except Taycan Turbo S, are great 7/10ths cars. I wouldnt buy one to be my sports car. Its a fabulous daily driver and if you had to hit some mountains once in a while, as long as you're not at the limit of adhesion, it's pretty good. But fundamentally a 7/10ths fast freeway car.
@@TheSmokingTire Well put. Go 10/10th in anything this size/weight and you're not going to be on the track that long.
@@TheSmokingTire thank you for the response! I had considered selling my current; one daily and one weekend ICE car and going to a single EV. Really appreciate the insight.
I'm curious how you guys would like the ride on my Mach E Premium EAWD with custom lowering springs I had made and 20x9/20x10.5 with 255/45 and 295/40 tires on it. To me it's amazing but you guys would know better. If you're in Phoenix any time I'd happily meet up.
I hate controls on my 2015 Prius and other newer cars I've driven where all the buttons are either almost completely flat or on a screen. There's so little way to use them by just feel and you have to take your eyes off the road and look at them
Nice job Ford.. now sell them w out visiting the dealer and haggle price and add ons.
Visiting the dealer has become the least appealing part of the transaction.
That's because dealerships are privately owned and they only buy the rights to advertise/sell certain brands. They can get away with borderline scamming people, like replacing things that don't really need replaced because they don't make much money on warranty repairs. The markups are there so they can make money and still pay ford their cut. That's why some dealerships are garbage and some are just slightly better than garbage.
@@badgermetal 100%.
Local Ford dealer is selling a Mach E for $15k over and not even a GT. I don't like several things about Tesla, but their direct to consumer model is excellent and should be widely adopted
Amen. This is one of the top 3 reasons why I went with a Model Y. I’m far from a Tesla fanboy but I am just completely over the old dealership business model and all the BS associated with it.
Order the Mach E from Ford and it will be delivered to the dealer for pick-up. The price and payments were all set by Ford, not the dealer. This is an exception for the Mach E it seems. No ADM but no discount either. It was very painless. This was on an ordered Mach E Premium AWD. I have seen the same dealer have ADMs on Shelbys and RSs. It seems that Ford is controlling the Mach E sales channel more rigidly than their other products.

@@badgermetal that’s not a good idea either because some smart person could do calculations to find out how fast there going based on lateral Gs
Weird. I just watched your mach-e range test video last night
I’m suggesting to Ford to allow an update to pump the Propulsion sound through the B&O sound system. It’s way too soft even when your on it, it’s a GT give us the sound to back it up. The propulsion sound base is supposed to be motors amplified with a little bass tone to it and it’s glorious just not even close to loud enough. What an incredible vehicle coming from a Spark EV.
What is the difference between suede and ultra suede?
We pre-ordered the GT Performance during the unveil and a few months ago when Ford sent us an email to finalize our order we decided to cancel it (we were not really sure to want it anymore). But, after having seen a lot of CZcams reviews recently, we totally changed our mind and we will probably get one (or a Rivian R1S).
These are now around 52-54 used with under 10k miles. Is it worth the buy over a regular Mach e ?
I went to the dealership and they couldn't get me one because of the chip shortage
I spy a Yachtmaster, class piece Matt.
He sports several Rolexes, such as the 50th Anniversary Submariner.
I pre-ordered a Premium RWD big battery Mach E immediately after the unveiling. After catching a test ride on a similarly speced demo I cancelled. Those seats and the pogo suspension were just awful. Maybe I should look at the GT?
Perfect Video! So glad you actually got the GT with the Performance Pack unlike Douge

Will the GT350 model have fake crossplane sound?
Maybe it’s different from the driver seat but that hood seems unnecessarily high given there’s no ICE under there. Although it doesn’t look nearly as nice, the sloped hood of a tesla offers some awesome visibility.

Everyone always want the samt things so why not just put in a "individual" mode were you can set all the parameters to you're liking?
If you're coming from a Camry or basically any standard ICE car, even a 2nd gen or newer Nissan Leaf's acceleration is going to feel very instant, because comparitavely, it really is instant for aby EV. You get 100% of the torque begining at 0 rpm on an electric motor. Some EVs do have a very slight quarter second delay that i believe is by design
Looks like it’s going incredibly fast. No sound always odd.
I've never owned an electric vehicle - This is by far the most entertaining of the ones I'd consider. Can we answer the question, though- Can it be upgraded to go faster? Obviously asking if the software would allow for an even more bonkers mode, or the addition of additional electric power. Is this common in the underground world for electrics??
Also - does this particular vehicle allow for the "sound" of an engine via the sound system? If so, will it do it while listening to music, too?
Ford has knocked this outta the park. Looks exotic and fast as a bat. Can't believe it.
Might wanna fix the sponsor link to go to https, I got an error when I first clicked.
Hmmm. So the future of a Mustang is an SUV? Question, instead of a generic car review, what do you guys think of this car having the Mustang badge? Does it ride like a Mustang? Does it feel like a Mustang? Do you feel that little extra as you get behind the wheel? Do you get that sense of exhilaration as you hit the throttle? Does it feel like a GT? Otherwise, it's just a good EV with decent range. Crap! I'm finally getting my S550 and will be getting an S650 before the ICE's are gone.
Drove the Mach E but wasn't impressed by the speed especially at speed and stepping on it.I was about to pull the trigger but figured resale will be horrible and I truly want the lightning. So if you love these seats so much, order them for yourself, I can’t imagine they would charge you that much for a pair of fronts… the mag ride would be a pain to adapt, but the seats would be bolt on
I’m disappointed they’re pulling power in the 1/4 mile apparently because of battery longevity concerns. You should be able to use the full power of the vehicle for a few passes.
also Ford has to protect the performance halo cars like GT500 and Ford GT. but regardless of this common practice, the average crossover buyer doesn’t worry about quarter mile speed.

If it's performance your after know that this car traps 100 mph in the waurter where that 3 traps 116+. It's much faster than this after 60 and much faster under 60. Weighs less and costs less while being more efficient and has less charging costs at public stations along with the better super charging network. If corner carving is your deal or drag strip visits the 3 is the king of both. If you want something more asthetic and less common the Mach e is for you. No getting over its huge weight disadvantage.
It’s a car vs a crossover do depends what you want, if it’s performance the model 3 crushes this in every metric and it has more range, more efficient and of course the charging, UI, safety etc are better.
This will ride better, it will turn a lot more heads and just be generally more comfortable.
