The Mach-E GT Does Something No Other EV Can...

  • Jack checks out the new Mustang Mach-E GT - the blisteringly fast performance variant of Ford's electric family EV. But in a world where range-topping versions usually equate to "too much power and not much else", does the GT do enough to separate itself from the already brilliant base Mach-E? Does it feel any different from the car on which its based, or are you better off saving your money?

    Faux-grille - a thing we're stuck with for another few years until car body designers finally get it - you don't need a radiator, so you don't need a grill, so stop leaving space for one then wondering what the heck to put there... put something more aerodynamic instead!

    I think the haters hate how it's the quickest 0-60mph outside the gt500&even then on a non prepped surface? I'd bet on the mach e gt to win.
    Then it can actually sit 4 full size average adults comfortably, it can carry cargo easily enough. You can see out of it quite well.
    And of course it can run on sunshine, wind, hydro, geo thermal or nuclear. No gas guzzler can do that.
    Also they seem to forget the first ever coupe was a 6cyl weak little under powered car aimed at secretary's. Yes they even had commercials showing women driving them to the grocery stores back in the 60s.
    Plus the simple fact over 80% of all mustangs made didn't come with a v8 underhood. I uses to daily drive one with the 3.7 6cyl which ran 12s on radicals, low 13s on st tires it got 30+mpg hwy at 70+mph and cost me only 25k total. No gt of the time could match any of those figures brand new anyways.

    The thing, to me, that makes the GT Performance Edition tempting/worth it if you have the money is the magnetic suspension. You don't get that on the standard GT, as it only comes on the GT PE. It makes the ride in the car MUCH better (and, frankly, the ride in the other trims is quite good).
    Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the speed too, but if that's ALL it was, the step up from the GT to the GT PE wouldn't be remotely worth it.
    (Full disclosure, I drive a Mach-E Premium AWD Extended range . . . if I could've found a GT for MSRP, I'd have bought it, but the GT PE was priced just a bit higher than I was willing to go.)

    It's good that the legacy car makers are finally making a few EVs (and they are struggling to get enough batteries to make more than a few tens of thousands of them).
    But the Tesla Model 3 Performance is 20% quicker, 20% lighter, and far more advanced in terms of automotive engineering. The Tesla Model 3 Performance drives more like a BMW M3, while the regular Model 3 drives like a regular BMW 330i, so there are differences in the Performance versions of Teslas. Differences discerning performance drivers can feel.

    • @quackcement
      @quackcement Před 2 lety +1

      the model 3 is also low to the ground hugs you around corners and you feel the road more like a proper sports car, the mach e is great if you want a quick family hauler with a slapped on legacy sports car automotive brand plastered on it. so you can pretend to drive a muscle car, when picking up the kids.

    Ford does that heavy steering with their big rim models. My S-Max has the 20 inch ones and it feels like that, it seems odd but I like heavy steering, my Kia Sedona on the other hand has a ridiculously light/soft steering and it feels too weak, lazy and floaty for me, I can turn it with my pinky finger and cant feel a thing on the road

    Does that mahoosive screen come with a night mode (properly off, like the old SAAB dash)? I see a lot of cars driving at night on unlit roads with the driver facing a backlit screen that must be messing with their eyes' dark adaption - and I'm not talking about morons who fix a satnav to the windscreen right in front of them, but anyone with infotainment screen and maybe satnav in the driver's display that is still on a light daytime background.

    Every cool car now is an SUV of some sort. That's because it´s hard to squeeze a thick battery pack under the floor without making an SUV out of everything. You can see a trend now is the SUV that has no ground clearance for a pothole or a curb, let alone off-road work.

      Partly true, but they were making Fiat 500e and Chevy sparky v in 2014, with new batteries that they would have had 200 mi range., Which would be a little short for the range obsessed climate. Chevy Bolt is small by USA standards, 260 mile range.

    • @francesconicoletti2547
      @francesconicoletti2547 Před 2 lety +1

      Tesla makes two sedans. I don’t think the ID3 is an SUV. The new VW people mover thing isn’t a SUV. An SUV was about ground clearance and 4wd. I don’t follow how those things affect battery position as neither effect cabin configuration. A battery skateboard can fit under just about and car chassis. EVs have more SUVs because car companies are in the middle of a marketing push for SUVs.
