For those people who continually say how Alicent wasn't a true friend for lying to Rhaenyra and blames her for marrying her father and usurping her throne yet overlooks Viserys, a grown man who literally CHOSE to marry his daughter's best friend who was a teenage girl (because that's what she was) clearly has double standards. But sure let's blame Alicent instead of the grown men (Viserys and Otto) for this whole mess starting. 🥴

So in the show they actually made him look better. And him being a despicable human being actually goes along with the misogyny that clearly is a big theme of the book and therfore the show, Like Otto said, Rhaenyra could be a saint, he would always go against her because she's a woman whereas Aegon as a son could do nothing wrong and should still be considered the heir purely based on the fact that he is a man. Like he rapes the maids in the Red Keep, Alicent cleans up after him, knows that he's a horrible person and still tells him he's going to be king...

she also fought with rhaenyra on a daily basis, spread rumours about her and laenor to weaken rhaenyra's support in the court, refused to marry helaena to jace which could have stopped the growing tension between the two houses...she was ready to fight to keep team green's power, specially after aemond lost his eye. then suddenly there's that dinner scene, rhaenyra makes her a toast and they seem to rekindle? they were enemies for much more time they had been friends. both did unforgivable things to each other. yet alicent ends the dinner asking rhaenyra to return later and rhaenyra happily agrees. it made 0 sense!

She started rumors about her sons’ parentage, she tried to proclaim Lucerys illegitimate, she tried to take Lucerys’ eye, she abused her power by making Rhaenyra walk to her right after giving birth. And finally usurped her throne. Hope this helps.

you mean like abusing her power as queen to pardon Cole who had broken kingsguard oath and murdered an innocent man, conspiring to reinstate her treasonous father as hand (with a man who she provides sexual favors for), letting her son rape serving girls with only a slap as a repercussion, manipulating said girls into silence, and then usurping the throne and planting her rapist, child abusing son on it? For the people who are mad, here for you to get more mad, and for the people who love them like I do, here some quotes of the directors, showrunners and actors about them! (also there is much much more💞)
quote: “despite everything that happened there is a deep connection and ultimately, you can’t erase the fact that you loved and cared for someone.
It can get twisted, but I can’t be deleted.”
-Clare Kilner, director of episode 9
quote: “There’s just a closeness between two young women that cannot be verbalized, especially in the world they live in.
I don't think they fully understand the feelings; it’s just all-consuming love.”
    -Emily Carey, young Alicent
quote: “There are layers and layers of repression; sexuality and lust are probably a prehistoric, sedimentary layer by now.”
    -Olivia Cooke, adult Alicent
quote: "but ultimately the demise of their friendship is by choices made by men.”
    -Milly Alcock, young Rhaenyra
quote: “If she gives in to [Otto’s terms], she can go home, and maybe even be loved,
and maybe Alicent would take her back.”
    -Emma D’Arcy, adult Rhaenyra
quote: “but [Rhaenyra] definitely yearns for the
old physical intimacy that they shared.”
    -Emma D’Arcy, adult Rhaenyra
quote: “I can definitely understand that it is hot watching complex female characters […]
    Like, that is hot.
And is very different from, I suppose, more two-dimensional portrayals of female sexuality.”
    -Emma D'Arcy, adult Rhaenyra
quote: “Stealing these loaded looks with someone that you fancy and that’s forbidden.
    That’s hot. It’s all hot.”
    -Olivia Cooke, adult Alicent
quote: “They [have] this potential romantic entanglement from earlier on
that has always been a big thing.”
    -Miguel Sapochnik, showrunner
quote: “it’s a bit of a love story in a way, of these two women.”
-Geeta Patel, director of episode 8
quote: “I saw the love and the romance of these two girls, which makes it all the more tragic”
-Greg Yaitanes, director of episode 2
quote: “The underlying theme is that Rhaenyra is actually in love with Alicent,
With Milly as young Rhaenyra, it was very much about seeing how she experiences this constant series of small rejections from Alicent.”
    -Miguel Sapochnik, showrunner
quote: “This game they are locked in, it’s largely a nonverbal one, and it's bitter and silent and stony.”
“We exist in a series of looks and chess pieces and hearsay and ravens.”

You do realize that what they said isn't actually shown on screen? Like there was nothing that indicated that their love is indeed a romantic one. Or more than just a really deep trust into each other? Like that's the risk with TV or any media, the people responsible might actually see some things a certain way because they want it to be seen that way. But it's not actually verbalized or explicitely shown on screen. The people involved in making the art aren't actually seeing the finished product from the point of a viewer who has no idea what their intention is and might interpret it in a totally different way. Like, to me, Alicent and Rhaenyra have a deep, platonic friendship that's based on trust because they were able to tell each other everything. But the moment Alicent started seeing Viserys in secret that trust is no longer there=no longer a friendship because there's no trust anymore. So, to me, getting to episode 6 and hearing the actors talk about how they're still missing what they had and supposedly thinking they can get it back makes no sense. It's nostalgia at best because as children their lives were easier in general. And that's what their friendship represents to me: an easier time where nothing bad had happened yer. Like, Rhaenyra still had her mother and wasn't burdened with everything her father told her about Aegon's song and Alicent wasn't burdened with her supposed duty.
