Shashi Tharoor, a third-term Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, is the bestselling author of twenty-three books, both fiction and non-fiction, besides being a former Under Secretary- General of the United Nations and a former Minister of State for Human Resource Development and for External Affairs in the Government of India. He has won numerous awards, including the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, a Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the Crossword Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2019, Dr. Tharoor was also awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in the category of ‘English Non- Fiction’ for his book An Era of Darkness. He chairs the Indian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Information Technology.

The English people gave the English language to Indians, but when they left, "MOST" of the English language also left with them. Consider this, in absolute numbers, there are many urban Indians who can speak "BASIC" conversational English, but how many Indians have as FLAWLESS COMMAND over the English language as a native English literary expert? Only a very minute number of them, and the first name from that class that comes to your mind is Mr Shashi Tharoor. In this sense, he took back the "ENTIRE" English language that had left with the English people.

I think a lot of Stand up comics should watch this video..what a tight set! The jokes were relentless..smooth flow and nuanced hard hitting scenarios that make this so enjoyable! I wish more MPs would have such an amazing sense of humour..i mean you can't give us great governance..at least some jokes would do!

@@Priyanka_270 What I think taking it back meant; that so many words of the English language are said to be originated from the Sanskrit language. So what was taken back was just language native to ancient India in an 'overprocessed' form.

I absolutely adore the literary tones of Tharoor's jokes here, and I'm pretty sure I'd have guffawed, rather than chuckling at them, at a lot of them had I read them in one of his books. That being said, always grateful to have you in my lifetime, Mr Tharoor, your literature, your sense of humor, your cheeky wit, all of it, and more!

I met him personally at a seminar and what i find is not amazing at all. He is grounded in fundamentals 'facts and preparation'. He has his q-cards and researched his audience.That's a great trait especially if we notice other great speakers.
