  • In the first such interview he has done, Shashi Tharoor reveals the man behind the incredible polysyllabic vocabulary, the clipped British accent and who’s hair keeps falling on his forehead. In a 60 minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire Shashi Tharoor speaks about a range of personal and emotional issues that he has never discussed before in public. What emerges is a unique self-portrait of a man with a 7.76 million Twitter following, one of the largest in the country.

I recall one time Dr. Tharoor raising a point of the 'compentancy' of Indian Engineers in the Indian Parliament and gave a thorough explanation of the lack of quality and professionalism among most of the new generation Techies. So the query was directed at the union 'Education' minister, Pokhiriyal. While the listeners were spellbound by the articulation of Tharoor, the reply from the Union Minister was dismal, or ' cattle' class in all respects. I feel that the difference lies in the thought process of North and South Indians. While we southerners hardly feel any pride by possessing fake degrees (very few would opt for one) but in North, it's a totally different ball game, they presume fake degrees to be a matter of utter pride. Good examples are Smrithi Irani, (claiming even to be an Yale graduate) Pokriyaal and the present incumbent of the PM's chair. What a down grading of educational qualification from the great Nehru, the steady slide in education standards continued downwards to the level of the present entity. Proud to be a Malayaalee, Dr. Tharoor is an inspiration to many youngsters and his speeches are avidly followed by countless individuals....
