U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Training - The Crucible

- The Crucible is a rigorous 54-hour final test in U.S. Marine Corps recruit training, and represents the culmination of all of the skills and knowledge a Marine should possess. It simulates typical combat situations with strenuous testing, hardship, and the deprivation of food and sleep. Recruits are broken into squad-sized teams and placed under the charge of one drill instructor. West Coast recruits are returned to Edson Range for the Crucible. Parris Island recruits will conduct the Crucible in the derelict Page Airfield on the south end of the depot.
Some of the challenges encountered during the Crucible are various team and individual obstacle courses, day and night assault courses, land navigation courses, individual rushes up steep hills, large-scale martial arts challenges, and countless patrols to and from each of these. Often, these challenges are made even more difficult by the additions of limitations or handicaps, such as the requirement to carry several ammunition drums, not touching portions of an obstacle painted red to indicate simulated booby traps, and evacuating team members with simulated wounds.
On the final day of the Crucible, recruits are awoken and begin their final march . . . and to an awaiting "Warrior's Breakfast" upon its completion.

Will be there to greet my son and new Marine in about three more weeks
This video was published on my birthday on youtube. Hopefully its a good sign for me because I believe that I can become a marine. Alot is going through my head as of right now
My son did also!!! Bravo 1082
Hopefully, they are finished!
Yeah, we do...
I was in Fox Co Plt 2040 second company to ever part take in "The Crucible" . It was learn as u go . Semper Fi ! OORAH !
Heading to Parris Island in February. Watching these videos to ease my nervousness.
I'm from NC and no, both sides are the same amount of time
good luck! Im going to San Diego September 24th!
A Marine, always a Marine! Oraaahhhh
I went to boot camp on Nov 97, graduated on Feb98. Platoon 2022.
I went through boot camp at Parris Island in 1964. They had no crucible back then. But the DIs would beat the crap out of any recruit (called maggots) if they stepped even slightly out of line. One DI we had, to punish a recruit, would tell him to "Get in the swamp!" The recruit had to make a run for the marsh area that mostly surrounds the island and jump into the swamp, often sinking up to his chest. After an appropriate amount of time, the DI would have a couple recruits go drag the poor guy out of the swamp. Punishment was daily and often brutal. I have heard that today recruits are treated less harshly. I don't take the cocky attitude that I was in the "old Corps." All who make it through Marine Corps boot camp went through a load of crap to prepare them for the pure hell of combat.
My future Son-in-Law just graduated from boot camp on Parris Island Friday. Very proud of him and all of the Marines.
Mixed emotions watching this video at the same time proud that my son it’s hours away from being a MARINE 😢🥰🥰
Our son is going through this now. Semper Fi
Cant wait till i Graduate HIghschool 2014 my next stop Parris Island.
I worked with these Marines in the field
I graduated boot camp December 30, 1998 in San Diego...Kilo Co. 3027..Like some of the other Marines who have posted here, I don't remember all of it..It was a blur..What I do remember is an insane amount of marching with full pack, no sleep and very little food, and a lot of team-oriented exercises where everybody got a chance to be a mission leader...The last stretch was Recon Ridge, a steep uphill march, but by that point, you could already smell that Warriors Breakfast, and the title of Marine..No sweat..
July 14th 2014 Parris Island
Awwww Bless...
Well, yeah, that should be a given. Stuff like staying in shape isn't necessarily stuff that you should have to worry about after boot camp, because that's stuff that should always be on point.
Good for you man. 6 months ago I weighed 236, now I weigh 164. Just stay dedicated. You can do it.
my son starts the Crucible at 2am just a few hrs from now!!! woooo~
Good luck:)
08-03-2012 Echo company Platoon 2062. It's been 9 years and still feels like yesterday.
hope you're having fun brother!
You don't go to someone's house for dinner and not offer to help with the dishes..
What an awesome young Marine!
That's very challenging
resley1967 you are correct in that the Royal Marine Commando course is 32 weeks, culminating in a 30 mile speed march after which they earn their coveted green beret. The standard soldier goes through a 24 week course, which is also very tough, I think the Parachute Regiment course (P Company) is about 32 weeks as well. Then there is the SAS (army) and SBS (Royal Marines) which is another matter! Though I have total respect for the USMC..
Headed to Parris Island in September
Shipping out to Paris island October 28!!
Enlist for any reason you want. As long as you think you can benefit yourself from joining, there's no reason you shouldn't.
Can't wait!!!Shit hurry up 2015!!!
Wow I'm in tears and proud to say will be heading out to see my son graduate 09/11/2015, seeing this video just made me feel more proud of not just him but all the young men going through a big accomplishment in their lives to become the few the proud the Marines.
9/11 ?? 😱
Its my dream to be a Marine. I will be enlisting in 1 year!!
good luck. :)
1m 14 and cant wait to join
oorah future Marines, remember your not a Marine till you hold the EGA, but hope you guys all make it, life changing experience for some, and it will make you a better person, just do what your told, when your told, as fast as you can, oorah and Semper Fi
April 28 2014 San Diego
I would have left tomorrow for Parris Island, SC! But I decided to wait to talk to my recruiter, even though the last time time I talked to him was in December!
Damn right..
August 12th MCRD San Diego.
If you make it that far, you'll cry. Everyone does. There's nothing wrong with showing a little emotion after having to hold it in for almost three months.
my brother is going to graduate boot camp on August 14th and it breaks my heart that I can’t be there for his graduation due to the covid-19 virus. I’m still so proud of him!
HELL WEEK!!!!
Correction, we don't think ours is the toughest. We KNOW its the toughest.
I leave to san diego for bootcamp monday morning LETS GO!
the 1.5mile time limit is 13:30 so he is good the 3 mile run is 21:00 but u should be able to do it in 18:00 to get iron man for women the 1.5 is 15:00 and the 3 miles is 30:00min
I went through boot camp in '97 and honestly don't remember all of the Crucible. I was running on auto pilot the whole time. When it was over and got my EGA, I have to say that was the proudest day of my life. That and the meal we got after the ceremony.
Graduated Dec 5th 97....platoon 3110......I don't remember a whole lot either from the crucible I do remember the sunrise on the morning of the final hump to the Iwo Jima Memorial was to this day the most beautiful I have ever seen. Gotta admit, I teared up during the scratchy recording of Lee Greenwood when I received my EGA. Something no one will ever be able to take away from one who earns it. We finished on Thanksgiving morning, had warriors breakfast then Thanksgiving dinner an hour later.
BuckeyeHiker Thank you for your service, a true warrior deserves a warriors breakfast! I hope to be able to join the ranks, I leave tomorrow!
*****
Do you need any tips before shipping off?
I have gone on to be successful in so many other things ,but achieving the EGA means far more than anything this world could offer me. Semper Fi !
Thank you for your service, The hardest part is being 12 and waiting 5 years to be shipped to the Marines. Any good tips you can tell me would be great.
make sure that you finish school first. Thats where i messed up and know i have to wait a whole year.
I was on Parris Island for 7 months. Got dropped twice into MRP because my legs were being bitches. Aug 19th, 2012-April 5th, 2013. PLT 2088, Co. E, 2nd RTBN -----> PLT 2004, Co. G, 2nd RTBN -----> PLT 2025, Co. F, 2nd RTBN
I just want to say thank you to all the marines that serve this great country. I myself did not serve but am a proud dad of a newly made Marine. Rah!!!
I left for Parris Island 40 years ago this month. I showed up with hair below my shoulders, bell bottom jeans, and a tie dyed T-shirt, and there i stood on the yellow foot prints in front of the old white clapboard receiving barracks that stood near 2nd Bn. MAKE SURE you know what you are getting into. I can promise you the Marine Corps is some serious shit and once there there is no turning back. If you insist on doing something crazy like this at least go air wing. I spent 7 years as a grunt..
They need a video of San Diego's Crucible. Much more vigorous then this one.
shipping march 11th!
I Hope I Can Make It Next Year
Junior in highschool. Soon as I become a senior, I'll be talking to my recruiter.
July 9th 2013 mcrd sd
Congratulations on becoming a Marine. I'm starting on my workout regiment now to become a Marine next summer as I will be a senior this year. Got 70 lbs to lose but I'm completely dedicated.
It was called A-Line training back in the day.
Please, August 19th. NEXT MONTH.
my cousin is doing this right now
ill be going there soon
going to boot camp at MCRD San Diego on Jan. 24th
i plan on joining the marine core then the navy seals
Not really. General Krulak just wanted a culminating event in boot camp, so in the nineties he implemented The Crucible. Food and sleep deprivation is a pretty obvious thing to do if you want to test peoples' limits and the name is just generic synonym that is used a lot of things that are really tough.
This documentary is absolutely wonderful. Can't wait to be a marine and serve. I'm going to give 110% and then some I want to be an outstanding warrior. To embody the warrior ethos and principles that make a marine who he or she is. Can anyone tell me whats the name of the song at 15:19-16:00 and at 18:12-19:20 in the background during the interviews with recruits. For Freedom, Liberty, Justice. For the core values of Honor, Courage, Commitment in the name of progress, perseverance Semper Fi
Wanted to join but was told that I was over the age requirement. Went to police academy instead and became a cop! Wish I could have been a marine, but when I was in high school, the recruiter hassled me so much it made me not want to join at the time.
Did it in 1987 at the island
Dont know why but I didnt cry 2009.
My fiance started the Crucible at 2am today
Hope he makes it through without any problems. :)
***** If you see her photo, I think he made it.
Jimmy J. Rustle Ah thanks.
Is he a marine yet
Mine started yesterday and tomorrow he will finish it 🥰
its a fact that Marine Boot Camp is the longest, and toughest (physically and mentally) were not talking about training after boot camp we are talking about BOOT CAMP!
Idk if the crucible is the hardest per say, I'd say "Hell Week" during the BUD/s training is pretty damn insane....
I really want something to help me build more discipline in myself. I am seriously considering putting a hold on school and enlisting.
Omg, I remember when my Senior Drill Instructor game me the EGA! Very positive experience!
just went to meps. probably shipping in December going as an 03xx contract
awesome video..worked with the Corps 1991/French Guyana/Camp Schutz/Regina. i was in the 3rd Infantry Rgt. French Foreign Legion myself.Keep it up warriors!
rob vanderwiel
Holy shit, you're a Legionnaire? The French have always had a proud martial history, but the Legion are Hard-friggin'-core. Much like our Corps, you combine highly accurate fire with timely and decisive maneuver with great efficacy.
Semper Fidelis, and Legio Patria Nostra
1077 baby. I'm in this video.
Sgt Goins was my kill hat - haha - he was a beast!
JoeUbon Went to Iraq with him in 2005, we knew he was going to be a DI.
The "Get Back" course. LOL. Ya'll will have some fun.
I'm enlisting next month, lol. Hopefully I'll leave in December with a CE Contract. You don't know what that is, you need to do more research on The Corps!
Because you get 4 hours of sleep during the Crucible and this is filmed while it is happening. So of course they seem slow cause they are exhausted.
I am happy about the fact that people around the world dont treat soldiers like crap like they did back while the Vietnam vet returnede, both mentally and physically wounded.
I am 15 and a future Marine, Thank you this, it has helped me to know what to expect and to start training for it.
I can't wait... I'm scared I'm gonna ball like a baby when they give me the eagle globe and anchor.... Jesus help me please!! I only have like 23 months!!
Im becoming a marine when im 18 yrs old YAy the crucible is when u stay up for 2 days and 6 hours sooo piece of cake
Dragon Deacon hahaha you're in for a rude awakening
I went to Boot Camp in California. Now imagine doing all those courses plus the 64 Miles of Hiking, through giant ass hills. Now that was fuckin hard.
What The Hell Is "The Marine Anthem??" It's Marine Corps Hymn Wingnut!!! We Are The Only Service With A Hymn!!!
my son starts Thursday Aug 2nd grad date!!!!!
In 2 weeks my son starts the Crucible.. Graduates a Marine Aug 16th
if I see one more commercial from acura
wow, our "crucible" lasted 7 days in the army infantry, no sleep, full packs....hell I could do this shit, and im 41 and out of shape
Recruit Training, Bootcamp; Parris Island December 2nd 2013 im not leaving without a damn eagle globe and anchor.
