    George Formby lived at the house, named Beryldene after his wife, for nearly ten years until his death in 1961. I also visit the headstone of Beryl Formby 1901 - 24 December 1960 was the wife and manager of singer/actor George Formby.

      I went to Blackpool and at the ramp where fans and one had two of his ukueles. I held one and strummed it after a guy taught me a few chords.
      My uncle met him in Manchester and bought his record and he signed it for him. But owning his personal property wow.

    I am a big history buff, and from what I’ve heard, George Formby and Vera Lynn were very vital to the morale of the British Soldiers in the Second World War. I love listening to Formbys music myself

    £140,000 was a lot of money in 1961. To prove it, my grandmother and granddad bought a new 3-bedroom semi detached property for just £6,000 in 1963.

    The rushed sale at the house was the fault of George's solicitor who was worried about the will being challenged. NOT Patricia.

    • @MotorHomeBeepBeep
      @MotorHomeBeepBeep  Před rokem

      But does that not mean that the solicitor will be also representing her? I don't say that's true, I just don't know but actually it was whacked in her behalf as she was the beneficiary.

      You are correct on this point - the Formby family were up in arms about the will.

    Just to say that the house in the photo near the beginning of your video, whilst called Beryldene (as all his houses were) it is not the one you went to see. This is a different one I think in Singleton or possibly another house he lived in in St Annes.
    Good video though. Have you been to George’s which he shares with his parents?

    • @MotorHomeBeepBeep
      @MotorHomeBeepBeep  Před rokem +1

      Hello Dave, but they asked the plaque on the wall at the front saying that that was George from his house. I have done his grave. It's one of my videos. Thank you for your interest in a nice comment. Alan

    • @davegb99
      @davegb99 Před rokem +1

      @@MotorHomeBeepBeep think we may be at crossed threads 😀 The one at 199 Inner Promenade with the blue plaque was his last house and the one where the auction was held so that was correct. The black and white photo with George & Beryl in the garden is a different house to the one you visited but is one that he owned at an earlier time.

      @MotorHomeBeepBeep  Před rokem +1

      @@davegb99 Ok Dave, I've got it now. All is clear. Thank you for explaining. I bet quite a few fans got a bargain at the auction.

    • @davegb99
      @davegb99 Před rokem

      @@MotorHomeBeepBeep I understand from seeing the catalogue that there were many lots sold over three or four days. Most sought after were his instruments and is is known where most of those in the auction are now. I know that one chap had his dad go and buy one and he still has it. Others have changed hands a few times. Other items of both his and Beryl’s are owned by the George Formby Society or it’s members. George Harrison did have one. Not sure where that is now.
