Navigating RD WORKS
Toolbars overview
Single line and polygon drawing tools.
Node editing tool.
Rectangle and Ellipse drawing tools.
Using the text placement tool and editing text.
The matrix copy tool is useful for repeating objects in the work area.
Grouping and ungrouping objects in the work area.
Importing graphics onto the plot area and dithering for laser output.

Possibly the best instructional video on CZcams! Brilliant, in focus, great audio and clear & concise. Thank you for your great efforts - truly appreciate what you are doing.
I have a couple questions regarding the software:
1: In the GROUP/UNGROUP are of your demonstration of the software you have 3 button but on mine there are only 2! What is the 3rd button's function and how did you get it?
2: Down the left side in the drawing menu there is a 'CURVE' button. How do you use this function?

Another question from the different versions of what appear to be the same software but with different names: RDWorks, RDCam, MetalWorks and LaserCut - is there any differences between these programs that we should be aware of?

1. the three buttons are Auto Group , Group and Ungroup
2. Curve function - draw your curve and then you can use the 2nd button down the node moving tool to adjust your curve
3. Different software for various RD controllers. RD works is for most machines, unless you have metal cutting or camera on your laser

Also when he is measuring, can you explain if there is a way to constrain the line so that it measures perfectly horizontal or vertical? Is that simply holding the CNTRL key while dragging the mouse?

How can i change x and y tab in inches from mm
Thank you for your videos. When I'm importing my dxf file from Adobe Illustrator into Rdworks the anchor points are changing from a corner to rounded. Do you know how I can stop this happening?
When i have 2 objects on screen but i want to save only selected one as udfile , Can you advise please? How can i do that?
When you are rotating the text block around can you change the direction of rotation or is it only set to clockwise??

Hi, I have a problem with the screen settings, if the design display on the computer screen is normal, the machine will do mirror ,so I have to make the mirror display on the computer screen so that the laser cut mechine does a normal cuting /engraving from top ,what should be set so that the display on the computer displays i normal(no mirror) and mechine do normal workrt too, thanks

Hi, I have a problem with communication of ruida. All cables is good (USB, ethernet)and I don't have connection between ruida and software (rdworks). And it doesn't read the file of udisk. It is impossible to be spoiled the board(Rdc6445s (ec))?
Hi Matthew… thanks a lot for explaining it in detail. Could you please advise if there is any option to import data from excel sheet and print directly. We use it for labels printing and unfortunately till now my staff has been typing each time in the software to fill in the data individually.. so thought if it could be from excel or Autocad file we could save a lot of time … thanks in advance for your support
I do believe there is, but it is not something I use. are you using LightBurn or RD Works?

Thank you for the great videos! I'm having trouble with my x and y axis only traveling in one direction when I jog the directional pad any ideas what I'm doing wrong? It will also go in one direction and slam past the limit switch when I jog it too far in the one direction the go. Thank you

Hi there Mathew and everyone. My problem is this. You download a file but then it cut out the wrong side of the stencil. It will give you the outline when you finish. Instead of the outline the part being available to paint. How do you change the file that the white becomes the part to be cut out . TIA

Just wanted to ask, how set the "repeat num" setting so that it will cut the whole artwork first, then repeat it for the second or third time?
example, i wanted to cut A B C shape, how to set it, to cut all the A B C first, then repeat it again from A to B to C (2nd and 3rd time) ?
because now, "repeat num" it will cut A(1st,2nd & 3rd times) then B(1st,2nd & 3rd times) then C(1st, 2nd & 3rd times)

Are you going to also do Rudia MetalCut tutorial to show the differences needed to cut steel? From using RD Works, it's basically the same in appearance and features.
no plans yet, but it may happen when or if I get a machine capable of metal cutting.

Ruida RD Works is not compatible with other brand controller boards.

I have a need to take measurements of parts after they have been loaded into RD Works. In your video it shows how to use the ruler. My newest version of RDWorks doesn't Have the ruler. Can you tell me where to find it.
You should find in in Menu - TOOL - MEASURE
You can find the toolbar in Menu - VIEW - EXTEND TOOLS
as soon as I try to insert any text the program cracks and closes. any idea why this happens?

you may need to check the calibration of your axis
I watched this post with great interest and downloaded the RD Works software. The program seems to be straight forward but I can not find a way to print my test file to an inkjet printer for verification before committing it to a laser cutter. Is there a way of doing this directly out of RD Works? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
no you cannot print to an ink printer from Rdworks, you can select all and export file into a paint/graphics program if you want to print the layout. But to preview your work before laser cutting, use the Preview button to show a simulation of the laser output.

hi.i hope you could help me. i am new to this software. how do i drag a guide line from the ruler on left and on top of page. to pinpoint a position to place a small cutting circle or to find a certain measurement from top or side.photoshop has it by clicking the ruler and dragging the line to where needed.many thanks.mike
dragging a guideline is not a feature of the software, however you can measure objects or points using the TOOLS - MEASURE option. Also the coordinates of the part placement are shown on the CUT PROPERTY tool bar and the coordinates of the cursor is displayed at the bottom right of the screen.

How can I turn on/off measure tape that goes by upper side and left side of the program?
If I want to draw a circle of some dimensions I simply type in dimenisions of circle and it draws it. But what if I want to draw something from zero, some shape with holes, how can I position those holes accurate?
If you know, it would help me a lot!
Draw a circle "hole" the size you want it position it at zero - then select the circle and click the "matrix copy" tool, then enter the number of hole you want and the spacing you want between them.
You cannot turn off the rulers (coordinate) bars.
I know how to draw a circle and I know how to use matrix copy tool. I saw your tutorials.
Example. I know how to fit circle inside rectangle. I can position it in middle by horizontal/vertical line, I can put that circle at top/bottom or right/left side of rectangle.
But what if I need that circle at some specific dimensions inside rectangle, if you understand me?
Example: I need to put circle diameter 5mm inside rectangle 30x30mm. It needs to be in upper left corner. Measured from upper side it needs to be 12mm apart and from left side 7mm apart. How can I put that circle by these dimensions?
Is there a way to copy & paste from rdworks file to another? I used to by able to do it before the update. I have a cut image in a rd file I'd like to cut & paste into another rd file.
In the version I use the cut/copy and paste function works between files. (RD Works V8.01.48)
Open file, select the parts you want to COPY, then open second file and PASTE.
@@MWLaser I have v8.01.49. You cannot copy & paste into a different file. It’s really frustrating. I used to do it all the time in my old version.

is the file a compressed RAR file? if so you will need to download a RAR extractor application.

Is anyone else getting a Trojan from windows defender when installing RDWorks?
I have not had this issue on any installation of RD-Works. Have you tried this version?

@@MWLaser Just tried installing it again from your link. Same thing. Windows defender is telling me the uninstall.exe has a trojan that can allow an attacker to execute commands.
@@MWLaser I deleted the uninstall.exe and ran the program. The first little job I had was to laser a small placard. When I tried to place fonts using rdworks, the program would shutdown no matter what I tried. I even tried reinstalling RDWorks.
