Jesus. This division is turning into a massive disappointment. Just when we all thought Heavyweight was starting to revive itself... the majority of the top contenders start acting like a bunch of soggy vaginas. Bones refuses to fight anybody but Stipe. Stipe refuses to fight anybody but Bones. Cyril Gane is literally dodging *everybody.* And now this fight gets canceled. Although, in this particular case, it's hard to blame them for refusing to fight each other when they were both planning on fighting other people and the UFC took it upon themselves to match two friends/training partners up without even asking if they were cool with it. That's definitely some shady ass matchmaking (even though sometimes you gotta be prepared to knuckle up against your peers if career progression is your main priority).

When cejudo and aljo were set to fight it was already announced, known and O'Malley was already training for O'Malley vs the winner of cejudo vs sterling. So again I'm when did merab hold up the division, because to further add to the point sterling did a 3 month turn around to fight O'Malley

Early this year, in his media Gane said he wanted to fight in april and that there were négociations on going.
It's hard to know if he declined anything or if it's just the UFC using their tricks to put pressure on him, not setting fights like they did with Ngannou. I don't know Gane contract situation and how many fights left, so maybe it's the just the UFC wanting to secure him for Paris.
I think the dodging thing is quite an easy conclusion, given the division is blocked by the Jones Stipe fight and the lack of contenders.

They committed to too many events with the ESPN deal.
It worked out for them in the short term thanks to Covid and all the stars they had built up prior.
But so many stars have fallen off and 3 years of expedited uneven match making has tarnished the UFC system.
How many last minute pullouts have we seen result in wild match making the past 2 years?
It saves cards in the short term but in the long term it undercuts the ranking system and star fighters.
Izzy is the golden example of this…
UFC committed to an Aussie event in Aug, planned for Izzy to headline but there were no worthy contenders. Instead of moving the event or changing the headliner, they booked Izzy vs Sean instead, despite Sean being undeserving at the time.
Izzy has been out ever since. Sure we had Sean kinda turn into a Star but this type of match making is chaotic and hurts the brand/fighters in the long run.
Dana says Boxing always puts on “going out of business” cards. But that’s exactly what he’s been doing with ESPN the past couple years.
Saving cards at the expense of the integrity of the sport.
How can you ever put out a promo for a fight when the fighters themselves dont even know about it and haven't signed anything?
Ciryl Gane is a coward and has openly stated he won't fight Sergei or tom because they're too dangerous. That's why he wants jailton, because he's like number 8 so in Cyril's head he's less risky.
Thing is Jailton is arguably 10 times harder than Sergei for Gane.
Yeah he got TKOd by Blaydes after completely gassing out, but before that in round 1 he broke the record for takedown done in a round on Blaydes. Gane is tra$h compared to Blaydes when it comes to wrestling and wrestling defense.
Almeida is not easy . His grappling is insane unfortunately he has no submission threat.

As for the Blaydes fight, Blaydes used to be known as the best wrestler at HW, was always overrated but his D2 A$$ knows enough to wrestle to defend himself from wrestling.
"Gane always getting his way" I don't think Almeida is a much better fight than Pavlovich for Gane. If he hasn't significantly upped his wrappling since JBJ he might be toast against Almeida while he's fairly used to heavy hitters like Sergei.
This is just a "slick" move the UFC likes to pull to try and strong-arm fighters. If they approach the fighters/managers directly to offer the fight that gives opportunity for the fighter to negotiate or refuse the offer. The real question is how often is it that fights are made this way in the UFC? And also how often does it work out in the UFC's favor? I'm just gonna guess that they pull kind of stunt a lot and it probably works out for them most of the time.

I'm pretty sure they announce the fight first so that there's the threat of public backlash against the fighters if they refuse the fight.
The only reason I can think of why the UFC keeps scheduling fights like that is because they are having trouble getting some of the fighters to agree to fights. Some fighters like Gane and Paula Costco only compete once a year or less.

UFC does this kind of match ups to extend their contracts because they turn down fights. There seems to be an automatic clause in this case. I watched Francis talk about the same in Rogan podcast.
These guys shouldn’t fight each other. If they didn’t accept it then they shouldn’t bow to the organization’s whims. It’s extremely messed up for the organization to announce fights before the fighter has signed a contract for it and it should be illegal.
Some times it happens. Like Munos vs Machida, Usman vs Burns, Cerrone vs Gaethje (not sure how deep the friendships). However, I hope this fight doesn't happen. Would be better if give them some other fighters and keep them in the same card
