The joke always is in these teen adventure movies “maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way” even though they all are literally holding treasure.
That one got me as well. Probably because 'motivational quotes' tend to annoy me to no end.

The one about being the token Black friend reminded me of a bit either Richard Pryor or Chris Rock used to do to explain why you never saw Black people in horror movies. It was way funnier the way the comedian told it, but it went basically like this:

This must be a city/low bear density areas thing.

It isn't that odd. The programme is funded by British TV licence payers, so initially it can only be legally shown in the UK on BBC channels. Later, it's made available to commercial broadcasters.

I guess you don't watch enough movies to get the joke, which is that the black person is usually the first to die in a slasher flick or disaster movie, just like in classic Star Trek if you see a guy in a red shirt whose name isn't Scottie, he's probably going to die.
