    I think Jimbo lost his drive and stopped caring after 2020. Look at his anger and motivation in 2018 and 2020 which allowed him to be successful and how he just never seems to care now

      I think this is a great candidate for understanding the downfall. It looked like we were on the right trajectory, and 2022/2023 was a year that should have converged on a lot of fronts. I think there was some laziness in hiring that ultimately is causing the problems we have now.

    PRESSURE SKYROCKETS ON EMBATTLED FISHER AFTER CRUSHING LOSS
    (AP) -- Texas A&M lost another heartbreaker today, falling 15-14 to BYE WEEK on a last-second field goal.
    The game started well for the Aggies, with quarterback Max Johnson engineering a touchdown drive to start the game. The 12-play, 75-yard drive featured two third-and-short conversions and was capped with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Johnson to Evan Stewart.
    BYE WEEK responded with a sustained ground game. Quarterback Walter Eckersall repeatedly ran the quarterback-power play to the right side, behind the devastating blocking of tackle Pudge Heffelfinger. A&M finally halted the Open Dates at the 22, and Charlie Brickley booted a 40-yard field goal to make it a 7-3 game.
    After that, the defenses dominated the rest of the half. But a surprise play from BYE WEEK might well have kept the Aggies from scoring more points. With 1:50 left in the second quarter, A&M had the Open Dates pinned back. It was 3rd and 25 for the visitors from their own 10 yard line. Quarterback Eckersall caught A&M napping when he boomed a quick kick over the A&M defenders. By the time the ball stopped rolling, it was downed at the A&M 18, flipping the field.
    At that point, A&M still had two timeouts. When the fans saw that Jimbo Fisher was merely going to kneel on the ball instead of trying to add points before halftime, the entire stadium erupted with chants of "HEY HEY! HO HO! THAT CLOWN JIMBO HAS GOT TO GO!"
    On A&M's first possession of the third quarter, disaster in the form of a bad snap struck the home team. Three snaps had already been rolled back to Max Johnson in the first half, killing drives. This time the snap was not only low but also about six feet wide of the A&M quarterback. In the ensuing scramble, the ball was kicked all the way backwards into the A&M end zone, and Open Date defensive end Marshall Newell fell on it.
    On the final play of the third quarter, A&M finally broke a big play. A simple hitch pass to Ainias Smith turned into a 71-yard gain, as the speedy wideout cut back to the middle of the field, shed two tackles and raced for the end zone. He was finally brought down at the one-foot line. After the teams switched ends of the field, Max Johnson sneaked for the foot and got it on the first play of the fourth quarter, putting A&M back on top 14-10.
    The teams traded punts on the next few possessions. With 3:58 left and all three timeouts remaining, BYE WEEK faced a critical decision. They had 4th and 6 at midfield. When quarterback Eckersall and the offense stayed on the field A&M used their first timeout of the half to organize their defense.
    It was all a ruse. Eckersall took the shotgun snap and brilliantly pooch-punted, the ball coming to rest at the A&M 8. Two running plays later, A&M faced third and 8 at the 10. BYE WEEK coach Percy Haughton elected to let the clock run after both plays, preserving his timeouts. That's when the center snap proved disastrous yet again.
    Presumably worried about rolling it back to Max Johnson, the nervous center sailed it 10 feet over the QB's head and out the back of the end zone for a safety, cutting the A&M lead to 14-12. One the ensuing free kick, Open Date returner Denny Clark fielded the ball on the left hashmark, cut back across the right to pick up his blocking, received another huge block by Heffelfinger to spring him up the right sideline, cut back across the field again when seemingly hemmed in at midfield, and made his way up the left sideline until finally being pushed out of bounds at the A&M 22 yard line.
    Eckersall, as he had all day, called quarterback power twice, gaining 6 yards and making the Aggies use their last two timeouts. On 3rd and 4 with 2:02 left, Eckersall's hard count drew an encroachment from the Aggies' defense, giving BYE WEEK a first down.
    From there, Eckersall took three knees, running the clock down to 3 seconds before the Open Dates called a timeout. Brickley's boot was straight and true, and A&M had another crushing loss.
    After the game, wandering in a daze around the stands, I encountered Billy Liucci. The popular podcaster and Aggie superfan expressed the sentiments of all of Aggie Nation.
    "How in the name of R. C. Slocum did we blow this one?" Liucci grumped. "It's the same darn thing EVERY TIME. We can't snap a football accurately. Our special teams coverage units give up a big play. Our offense does what should be just enough to win but turns out to be just enough to lose. We commit untimely, undisciplined penalties. And our coaching staff has no guts. At some point, you have point the finger at the head men."
    Liucci took a deep breath. "I swear, if someone gave me 200 million dollars right now, I'd gladly spend half of it today to get rid of both Jimbo Fisher and that fool Ross Bjork. For the rest of the season I'd promote Bobby Petrino to head coach, and if that doesn't work, go after Mike Elko the day the season ends."
    I could only nod in agreement.

    I think the reason why the offense is struggling is because this offensive line isn't explosive

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      Thats certainly a criticism I have. Physical might also be a way to describe that, but explosive is a very important subset of physicality thats more focused. I think this devolves back to a mind set though, because the offensive line can't approach every play like they are going to man handle the opposition. I definitely think though that we have regressed back to being predictable.

    Could Gus Malzahn fit at A&M since he has done very well as an assistant and head coach and has been to the SEC Championship game with Auburn a couple of times and has won the NC as an assistant and went to National Championship in his first year as head coach with Auburn and knows how to beat Bama under Saban. I know he's struggling this year at UCF without Plumlee at QB. I do know he runs a power run spread offense sorta similar to Tennessee is doing this year

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      Maybe, he'd be an interesting thought if he took a Mac Brown approach. I think what has to go into the selection process for the next coach has to be more detailed than what our brass typically does, IMO. Usually its this guy won this so obviously they are a good coach, lets hire them! I think the why they were successful is a huge question that needs to be answered.
      For example, Sonny Dykes made a splash last year. The thought was he is really amazing. Now, no doubt he is good, but was his success more a factor of other things?
      Heck, the guy started off with a different QB than they finished. The back up played lights out? So did he coach up the backup, was he just that good too, or did the coach make the wrong decision actually? Was their success to do with all the seniority they had? Getting many breaks to go their way? He can't be that great going 4-3 on the year so far right?
      So one year can't be the basis, it has to be a time honored critique that takes in multiple factors like, did his position coaches improve their players. Did his position coaches move up, or out? These processes are just as important to me as the results. I think they need to dig deep on the next one, and not just go with the obvious.
      I'm ready for the Urban Meyer speculation to start!

    I think the lack of an extraordinary QB has taken it's toll. Mond was the last long term QB we had and he wasnt bad but we knew more or less where his ceiling was. King never panned out, Connor is on the bench and Max is tough like Steven McGee but has yet to show elite play.

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      I don't disagree, I just have the hardest time getting to that point much because the O line has just been so bad. Cole Cubelic I feel gave us the kiss of death 3 years ago when he coin War Daddy for Layden...he's been anytime but ever since. Snapping issues. Stepping on the QBs feet. Massive busts. Snap count screw ups which were at home. In my mind, we had the better team when we played Bama...our team beat us more than it did Bama though, which has basically been true in each loss. Jimbos ability to keep his team from beating itself the last 2 years and now has just been an achilles heel.

    • @GridironMasters
      @GridironMasters Před 9 měsíci

      @@atmcoldchills I've never seen the QB get stepped on before. I'm inclined to think the two times it happened are flukes but they happened at very inconvenient times.
      I don't know if we had the better team against Alabama, they certainly are having one of their down years (1-3 losses) but we didn't have to be. Close games are winnable and we just had to do enough to win.
      Some O line overhauls and a healthy QB are needed for sure.

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      @@GridironMasters and I think with competent play, meaning not beating ourselves, at O Line and QB would have made the difference against Bama. Now, of course in the end, the “better team” wins the game. My take on better team is just that if we played our best game and they played theirs, I believe we would win. However, taking in consistency as a team metric, Bama was more consistent and their lows are much higher than ours. Our highs may be higher than theirs, but we performed on the low side too often and not close to our peak. Jimbo has to limit our floor more than trying to achieve our highs on every play!

    You have a few choices:
    1. Mike Elko - most likely option and likely would be able to keep the players and coaching staff around. Is familiar with A&M and has proven he can win with lesser players at Duke
    2. Dan Lanning - highly unlikely to leave Oregon but would be an excellent option. He knows the SEC and love’s defense and has high powered offenses. But i don’t see him leaving Oregon
    3. Kalen DeBoer - another name that has shown to be a great HC as of recent at Washington and has a great offensive and defensive scheme. Also highly unlikely he leave’s Washington
    4. Glenn Schumann - a guy with no HC experience but has been around for 6 NCs between Bama and UGA. He is currently the UGA co-DC and would likely jump at the chance to be a HC at a major program. But once again hes never been a HC
    5. Jeff Traylor - the least likely option i feel as A&M will not want a guy who hasn’t been a P5 HC yet. Hes a good HC and proven that many times but hes an unknown commodity at the P5 level and has struggled some at the G5 level but does deserve credit
    Im sure there are more options but those are currently my top 5

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I'm starting to compile names, I'm very interested in the ones you have here. Elko and Lanning are two most obvious out of the gate. I don't necessarily think no HC experience is an issue. We are bit of a larger program, so some might frown on this, but it really isn't some I think is a deal breaker. I think a coach has to have a healthy does of alpha in him with a touch of politician. What I mean is the he has to able to challenge his crew, but do it in the right way. Politicians are to wind socks, and alphas want it all their way. A healthy dose of both in one person, whose ultimate goal is truly to win, and understands the ins and outs of that goal and can contain their ego is the guy for me.

    3:36 what about 2020 Florida

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      It's a good win, no doubt. But no bigger than Bama in 2021 right? And for me, where as I'd agree 2020 Florida was a big win, at the time, it didn't really get us anywhere. Sure, it allowed us to get to the Orange, but it was of no consequence as pertained to moving the needle. We were still second best even with that win and the orange bowl win. I guess to be fair, I would have to say it moved the needle, but we are also far removed from that game as of now.

    Mike Elko Dan Campbell Deion Sanders Lincoln Riley all would be great fits for Aggie land definitely time to say Hit the Hwy 6 north out of College Station absolutely.

    • @eazye619
      @eazye619 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Elko is the only one there that could happen. Campbell won’t leave the NFL for A&M and idk if he’d do well in college. Sanders is a no go. Riley is a no go

    • @atmcoldchills
      @atmcoldchills  Před 9 měsíci

      Elko seems like the only viable candidate, but in a year or two, maybe others would be. NFL to college is a really odd transition from a recruiting standpoint, so Dan seems unlikely as much as I like the guy though.
