    This is one of my favourite operatic duets. Having said that the version I first heard many years ago was that from Jussi Bjorling and Robert Merrill and to my mind (and ear) that set the standard for me. Of course individual tastes differ which is why I take absolutely no notice of music critics!

      Well, to be fair, Domingo will have the tenor part memorised, having played the part in 1964. And at this writing he has memorised the baritone part, as he played that role in 2018.

    • @sonnyyu8893
      @sonnyyu8893 Před 4 lety

      What amazes me though is that he had to learn the lyrics (even in a foreign language in this case), pitches, rhythms for all the songs he sings all by just listening and without anything to look at. And to be fair, extremely rarely had I seen Bocelli forgets about lyrics on stage. Considering the wide range of songs he sings, that is an accomplishment in itself.

      "over the past 500 years". At the time of (my) writing, in 2020, the opera had been written only 157 years ago (so, for the OP, only 151 years). To be fair, the previous 349 years would have (trivially) held no better recordings. So there is a sense in which "the past 500 years" is true. But it might as well have been "the last 4 billion years".

    Oh ! Thank you so very much for enabling people like myself to be able to see and hear such beautiful strong Opera singers , I used to go to Covent Garden and Glyndbourne in my youth but always alone because my friends wouldn't come as they were more Pop---Rock fan's which I also enjoyed . I kept all the Programmes and still treasure them ..so grateful to feel young at heart with a desire to learn even though I am 70yrs old , Placido Domingo and the incredibly talented miracle of Andrea Bocelli . When Coronavirus enables me to travel I shall finish my own " Bucket List " and travel to Italy once more. .God Willing .

      Bocelli has actually a very poor voice by operatic standards. Now that he has lured you in, look into the myriad of great tenors available on record and widen your knowledge. When you've listened - really listened - to a couple of dozen of the greats then you can re-evaluate Bocelli.

    If any one says that Placido should quit his career, the may I suggest asking the people that he has worked with like Anna Netrebko and Rolando villazon how long he has been in the opera industry. By the way his voice is still good that's why people still work with him and Andrea.That just goes to show you that even though they are getting old, they still have the voice that can get people to come to their shows.
