Agreed. I was a delivery driver for a West Philly Chinese family-owned restaurant. The owners know nothing about American sports. Their son was in elementary school when the Phillies signed Harper. I bought the boy a Bryce Harper tee shirt at that time so that he would seem more “cool” with his classmates. I turned him onto the Phillies. He loved wearing that shirt. The dad mistakenly got him a right handed glove but the kid is a lefty so I bought the kid a used lefty glove. The boy is age 14 now in high school. I’m sure he’s outgrown that shirt by now. I no longer work there but I’m pretty sure he’s still a Harper fan!

Bryce Harper's one of those most valuable player winners who actually act like it when it counts.
You could probably count the number of players like him on your fingers. The MVP award he won in 2021 was for him nearly dragging a team to the playoffs that had no business being there. His second-half almost got a mediocre team there. The team only slightly improved the next season, and he was able to get them to the world series. It seems that most of his doubles and home runs in 2021 came with the team trailing by a run or with the score tied.

Everything about this is pure greatness. The patience, the resilience, the clutch factor. Few players in MLB history have been as locked in as Bryce Harper is right now. The fact that he was able to foul off fastball after fastball and was then able to spit on that change up while not being fooled was amazing enough. But to immediately crush the next fastball that he sees in the biggest moment of the game is legendary stuff. This will live in MLB history forever.

@@hondaphan4172 Except it wasn't an ending. It was only the eighth inning. It was like me being at the 1976 ALCS and the 1977 WS. Chambliss's ninth inning homer to win it for the Yanks will forever be cemented in my mind. Jackson's feat a year later was a greater one, but it was also in the eighth inning and the Yankees already had a good lead. Jackson's homers became legendary and Chambliss's will only be a Yankees fan memory, but the hysterics were greater for Chambliss's HR. My brother lives in Philly and I was rooting for Harper and the Phils, and I'm thrilled he hit it. But it wasn't like a Hollywood ending.

Sometimes a 106 win team actually acts like it. The Phillies got lucky enough to get through 1 such team, it would have been asking a whole lot for them to get through two of them.
I always said that it would be nearly impossible to beat Justin Verlander two times and Valdez two times. That was what had to happen for them to win the series.
I give them credit for getting Verlander once.

John Smoltz was a prophet this entire post season. He basically called both of Bryson Stott's big hits when he said they can't throw off speed and speed up Stott's bat right before they did. In this AB he said you can't miss away because Bryce can take it out that way (around 3:00 mark). Suarez missed away and Bryce launched it.

Since I was a kid, I always got goosebumps hearing the call of Thomson's pennant winner at the Polo Grounds. As I got older, it's been just as much fun watching banged up Kirk Gibson battle the great Eckersley for what seemed a half hour before hitting that game winner (really effectively ending that Series in game 1) whether listening to Vin Scully call it or the nearly as great Jack Buck screaming "it's gonna be a home run!!! I don't believe what I just saw!!". But as a Phils fan since Callison won the '64 All Star game with his own dramatic shot (yes, that precise moment), what Harper did yesterday, let's leave out all the cliches, this is the peak of the mountain. Houston better bring its A game to even extend the Series to five. Jump on his back, boys, Bryce is @#$%&%*# locked in. Did you see that at bat. Locked and loaded. "The swing of his life" indeed.
