Van Halen used to play this song in the bar and backyard party days in the mid-70's.

I think of this as Bonzo's album. He just crushes his kit the whole way through.

Every time Zeppelin "changed", there were some people that didn't like the changes... and Zeppelin changed every time they made another album.
I didn't really start "listening" to Zeppelin until a few years after Bonham died, and I did it without anyone telling me what to listen to, what was "good", what wasn't.
I listened to their first album, my mind was blown... then my friend's sister let me listen to her Zeppelin vinyl collection. I went through each album in order, without knowing what to expect, and was blown away by the evolution! 😎

Presance is my second favorite zeppelin album behind physical graffiti! So guitar and drum heavy perfect Zeppelin signature sound! This album is perfect for getting the Led out!

Had me at summertime brother, this song has always took me straight to a moment in time (summer) of course and that's the shit that makes old men like me smile!!! If ya ever see some older person standing around with a shit eating grin on their face chances are they are in the middle of some type of flashback that they've never forgotten!!

This song reminds me in a way of outkast Hey Ya. Like not the melody but the style. The music is happy and kind of peppy, but the lyrics are about being down. In Hey Ya he lost his girl, and in this song he lost his way on the path and feels like he’s nowhere and has to start over. But the music is happy. It’s a powerful style because you don’t get the meaning until you REALLY pay attention to the lyrics. Then you’re like ‘wait a second, this is a blues song!’ And then the message sinks in twice as much as a song with blues chords and 12 bars.

After the harrowing events of late 1975, “Presence” was Zep fighting for its life. I think Jimmy Page wanted to prove the band was still a force to be reckoned with. That’s born out with “Achilles Last Stand” as a type of war cry that confronts listeners with a raw display of power.

Robert was involved in a near fatal car accident prior to recording Presence, and recorded much of this album while sitting a wheelchair. "And if you ask my advice take it slower, let your story be your finest reward"...."now and then you gotta take time to pause" was Robert's way of telling Jimmy Page: "I need more time to heal." Robert wanted more time to recover from his injuries, but Page wanted/needed this album done, and Robert conceded.....but was not happy. This was a rift growing between them that expanded after Robert's son later passed away, as evidenced by lyrics in In Through The Out Door.....coming soon.

Yeah for the real Zeppelin fan this Album is #1. Physical Graphitti is like a buffet meal and this is like fine dinning multi course meal. (I and III are right up there though, there will always be something special about their first album!)

  • @henriettaskolnick4445

This song is showing Robert's dissatisfaction with the band's status quo. He had already begun questioning his life priorities and really didn't want to be working on this album. The whole song is full of subtle jabs at both Jimmy and manager Peter Grant because he felt they were unsympathetic to his concerns but it's wrapped in a cheery sounding, bouncy beat full of happy "la la las".

This is one of my all time favorite songs by them but it never ever gets much love. :( To me, Physical is their best album so in that since they went down. But I like this album better than Zep 3, Houses of the Holly and it's right up there with 1,2 and 4 for me. Now I will agree that "In through the out door is a step down. And probably my least favorite of the albums. But it's still not trash and will grow on you the more you listen to it.
