Planting Water - Record Crop In The Worst Australian Drought - 2019

  • Although I focus on management tips to improve profitability in Syntropic Production, the biggest point is just how well the system performed in the worst drought in my experience - I had not one single wilting leaf in the zucchini all season! I took this for granted at the time, but in retrospect I can better see the amazing performance of Syntropy - yes, you can plant water!
    This row was irrigated, but nowhere near enough to match the health of the plants and yield, and as mentioned in the video, the soil was bone dry. This still blows me away!

    You mention $10k/ha yr. What is conventional. I like yiur comment about the grass supporting the extended harvest, quality and quantity produced. Looking forward to hearing how that translates into kgs/ha improvement. Inspiring stuff. Tx. Patrick.

    Hey Scott! This video actually showed up in my CZcams homepage tonight Oct 18, 2023. I was chatting to my buddy Mitch, in Main Arm, yesterday, and it seems the drought is worsening. Where is your farm? I'm in Vancouver now, and the Big Wet started 3 days ago, after a very long, dry summer. Do you grow Yacon? I grew it back in the day at Starseed, and was impressed by the yields, and their low maintenance/water profile. Keep crushing it.💚

    So i have a block in blue mountains with sandy and sometimes shallow soil on sandstone gullys. Is it possible to get a decent system growing under existing gum trees or is the only option to remove or hard prune the gums?

      Hard prune if the radius of influence encroaches into the area where you want to grow. The area of influence can be determined by the height of the tree, which approximates the radius of the area of influence

      @@syntropia_regenerator thanks Scott! its like i know it but these are beautifull big trees so its hard to make that move. I will start in a small area and once i know i have the right plants and seeds to get a good system in. I dont want to cut down big trees without a plan and being prepared.

    Question about pruning the eucalyptus. The diagram that I got (from Ernst I think) says to prune at 3 metres. What hight do you prune yours?

    • @syntropia_regenerator
      @syntropia_regenerator  Před 10 měsíci +1

      You can prune at any height you want. Sometimes coppicing down low is too much of a hard shock though. Otherwise I’ve seen all heights work well

    Is that special grass you grew or propagated intentionally? Or just grass that grew there naturally?

    did you use any irrigation and how much to achieve these results?

    • @syntropia_regenerator
      @syntropia_regenerator  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I did use irrigation, but it was insufficient, hence the bone dry soil

      @@syntropia_regenerator it still looks good though! any idea how deep ground water is at your place during this dry period?

    • @syntropia_regenerator
      @syntropia_regenerator  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I have no Idea, it was dry as far as you would like to dig though, I know that. I saw some freaky things though, they are photographed though, not on video. I'll see if I can add to this@@lucschoonen
