Duncan and Veronica didn't break up because of Lilly's murder, in fact they broke up before Lilly's murder as we see some flashback of Lilly consoling Veronica about it, telling Veronica that she would talk to Duncan about it, and then telling Veronica to move on after apparently confronting Duncan, probably cus she found out the real reason and didn't want to crush and gross out Veronica.
Duncan and Veronica broke up because Duncan's parents told him Veronica was his sister. Which is why they end up back together in season 2 after Keith had revealed the results of his paternity test to Veronica.

Another fun fact: At the time the episode aired, Riverdale was not a thing but Archie comics definitely were. The detective angle wasn't a Betty Cooper thing at that time. So while Riverdale might have taken traits from Veronica, Veronica wasn't taking traits from Riverdale's Betty. She was using the name and place of someone she knew from a comic book.

It doesn’t mean they are similar enough to be the same thing or that the writers were inspired that deeply by it. Thats just my two sense as a Veronica Mars fan from 2007.

Watching "Veronica Mars" again just shows how Riverdale got it wrong and yes they are on the same network but let's be real here one has Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars, Keith Mars, Weevil, Wallace. Basically they are likeable characters but have that dark past. It's a you-have-to-get-the-formula-exactly-right sort of thing and Riverdale, whereas it has the characters that most of us love Archie, Betty, Veronica it gave them the darker past but didn't do it in the right way. They should have actually been fighting the supernatural from the beginning instead of solving the mystery.
Sharks The devil S1 of Riverdale shares ridiculous amounts of plot points with s1 of veronica mars, only with very much worse execution. VM S1 is utterly brilliant

The dark teen noir concept has become popular these days, but what sets Veronica Mars apart from them, is that it actually has good writers. These shows like Riverdale have really bad writers that have obviously gone "Well, we have 15 episodes left of the season, as well as a contract for another 5 seasons. Lets just write a list of weird, funky story lines and pull them out of a hat"...
I really loved the way that a few of these female driven tv shows from the 90s to early 2000s used a new thing to solve each episode, as well as an over-arching thing. For Veronica it was cases (with something like the Lilly Kane case - one that she just couldn't let slide), and for Buffy it was a new baddy (and then there was the big-bad each season, like the Master in the first season). Plus, these shows had a phenomenal cast and fantastic humour weaved through the drama.

I agree. I think Riverdale tries to make up for it in tone with moody lighting and leather jackets. It comes off as trying too hard and the storylines are absolute cringe and not based in reality.
I totally Agree with you. It really feels that great writing for a show has to be an over abundance of sex or sexual tension between characters in order to make a believable show. I really do miss the 90s and early 2000s.
Also the show has redeemable villains, good ones, and that’s really hard to do

The first season of Veronica Mars really is a classic...the 2nd was dope...3rd was a little convoluted. But that first season is one of the best seasons of teen drama ever...it had everything and Kristen Bell might be one of the best leads in a teen drama series ever...definitely in my top 3.

Veronica Mars is still one of my favorite shows of all time. Not saying that you should make videos about the whole series, but you should definitely watch it (or, at least the first 2 seasons). It's so good, the mysteries are so well thought out and planned but at the same time when they're revealed the answers are very unexpected, it's just... So great

@@Nuggie1999 I enjoyed the 3rd, but even I can admit that it was objectively not as good as the first 2 seasons, so when I'm recommending it to someone I tend to give that as a disclaimer--the 3rd season can be skipped, if they want (though in my personal opinion it's still worth watching).
And I haven't seen the 4th yet.
My husband just watched the season one finale for the first time. I loved watching him see the reveal. He’s a writer so he really appreciates the writing.
@@Muslimah33 yessss! I honestly can't think of another show/movie that did mysteries so well. Usually the reveal either makes no sense/is very underwhelming (like on Lost) or the mysteries/storytelling are great but you can figure it out before the show actually reveals it (Psych did this a lot, and most crime dramas I've seen are like this). Veronica Mars is the perfect combination of loveable (but still flawed) characters, intriguing mysteries, smart and unexpected reveals, and good character development.
I just finished this series last night. For some reason, I forgot you said that the show ended and then had a movie and a new season so I was all kinds of worked up over the fact that the CW canceled such a good show.
As someone who watches the Dollar Store Betty Show, VM was ahead of their time. They talked about real taboo topics (many still taboo), while still making a kickass, mind-blowing helluva show! The cast was phenomenal and the storylines and arcs were so well written. I can't wait to rewatch it.
It is the one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. I miss this series. 🥰

This was an incredible show. I watched it through the first time after I heard about how big the kickstarter was after it happened. It reminded me of my own high school experience in a very visceral way. Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, and Enrico Colantoni were all incredible with amazing chemistry. Season 2 in particular does not hold back its dramatic punches and I absolutely love it and the first season.
Unfortunately, the show pulled a Buffy (In many many ways, I often associate them together) and stopped being nearly as interesting when they went to college. Season 3 was just... okay? At best? It has some good episodes but I feel like it lost what made the show great. Then the movie happened, which was pretty good, a fanservice-y film that was very enjoyable. Then you've got the two books (The first one's audiobook being narrated by Kristen and she /kills/ it), and now the Hulu season, which was good, mostly. What I mean is that for the most part the season is better than season 3, but worse than the first two and then absolutely slips at the finale. There were a million ways to end that season in a satisfactory (And even depressing) way, and they bungled it. I'm pretty sad about that, though honestly this series is still in my top five favorite shows, even including its failures.

The one that starts at the motel is the version on DVD. I'm not sure if it's available for streaming anywhere.
@@bts_vinyl Yeah. I have the DVD sets for season 1 - 3 and it starts the first episode at the motel. But when I went to stream it on Hulu last week, it started at the school.
im pretty sure its just the american released boxset or maybe just the individual season 1 dvd because i have the uk boxset and mine has the high school intro, and if i remember correctly, most international discs start at the high school

I frickin love Veronica Mars, it has everything I want. Mystery, a cute father-daughter relationship, humor, overcoming racism and classism, and grade A acting. I just wanted to make sure all the best elements of the show were in the comments somewhere b/c while Kristen Bell is great, she isn’t the only reason to watch the show.
I know right? Some of the twists and drama in that show had me hooked since episode 1 and i was soo mad then it got cancelled after season 3. That show was so good. 😭 But to be realistic we were all about that detective, drama and mystery with strong female leads. 👀
I've just started watching it a few months ago and I love it so much! I'm glad I came back and watched this, because I get to appreciate it way more now
Growing up it was literally the only "teenage drama" show I watched. I tried some others like One Tree Hill, but the fact that most of the time the teen drama was basically, more or less, all that was going on, and the rest was really there to drive that or allow it to happen, bored me fast. Veronica Mars is basically a mystery/crime solving show, but with teen drama mixed into it. And it's really good imo, I think it holds up to this day.
Yasss still one of my fave shows ever. Just actual well written characters and stories.

The pilot episode is a flipping work of art. Everything you need to know about who these characters are and how they interact is laid out in episode one. If you watch episode one, your reaction is the correct one. If you loved it, you will love the rest of the series. If you hated it, you will hate the rest of the series.
There is no retooling of the show later in the first season or the second. The show was born perfect in the pilot. You can't say that about many shows.
Funny that you should mention Betty Cooper, as Veronica once claimed to be her while undercover as a nod to the Archie Comics

My kids, now grown, LOVED VMars. It was a must watch tv for us and we own the dvds. We’ve had some binge sessions on all four seasons and the movie, more than once. LoVe.

I wasn't even going to watch the video as I'm a huge fan of the show. Figured this was bashing it. But curiosity got the best of me and I started watching it expecting to shut it off soon after but then it didn't trash the show so I watched it all.

this series was the absolute best. i remember binge watching it when i found out about it, half way through the first season and i adored it so much. i was one of the kickstarter backers and went opening night to like one of the nicest theaters ever and mannnnn. i don't remember talking to anyone else but just knowing that i was with people that loved this show was enough.
also kristen bell still looks the same because she is honestly one of the nicest people on the planet and therefore was granted immortality to help us be better versions of ourselves.

I just watched all of Veroncia Mars and I was curious as to how you were going to make it seem "bad" because it is one of the best shows, storywise and written that I've seen in this genre in a long time. I'm glad you also liked it, and while there are some cheesy bits, like with any show, it was so well done, and every episode brought you closer to the truth, even if it didn't seem like it.

I started looking for more solving crime shows and I was late in the game for this one, but its so good! Another one I binge watched for the first time recently was The Mentalist. Man now that one is good too! Will you please do The Mentalist as well?!?
