Hotwheels restoration of Hot Rod Red Baron No. 6400. A cult cast model.

- In 1970 Mattel introduced the iconic Hot Rod Red Baron to the market and produced it in the first version until 1973. Then in 1993 the model was reissued, but not on wheels with a red line. The shape of the helmet was also changed. You can turn on subtitles in your language with the action commentary in the video. I got my copy from my friend Mark in Canada, and I took a long time to prepare to renew it. I made new rear wheels that were missing from this model. I made a metal collector's tag that was delivered with the packaging, and recreated the iconic red metallic paint. While making the reproduction of the box, I made some changes. I did not have anything to copy the form of the blisters from, so I used my own blister, from a modern model. I attached the collector's "button" in a different way than it was in the original packaging. Thank you for watching the movie, I publish videos with the repair of cars on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

I had that car when I was a kid..... Thank you for the nostalgia.
Best wishes
You did an amazing job on this Red Baron. You never cease to amaze me with your skills and ingenuity. When I saw what you made on the lathe I thought, no he's not going to make a button. Yes, you made a great button. The package was equally as impressive. This has to be my favourite video of sll. Well done!
Thank you very much
Simply amazing!!! The tag and the packaging I found even more fantastic than the model itself. I was eight years old when this Hotwheel came out and yes me and my brother had one. I had forgotten all about the Tag. Thanks for a trip down memory lane my friend, it was awesome!!!! 🛻🛵🚜🤟
Thank you very much
Thanks to Paul's efforts and talents, the legendary Red Baron is born again. Masterpiece and great work as always, Paul!
My pleasure!
Great work Paul amazing restoration well done 👍.
Thank you very much Adrian
Such a fun resto! I had one as a kid Your equipment is incredible as are your skills Brilliant I love it
A 35 ton press to make a miniature tin badge!
@@randytaylor1258 I'm sure he does other things with it? Hehe
Thanks so much!
Thick paint on this one looks great , this is always a cool casting .
Great work as always , WOW .
Mike .
Thank you very much Mike
Paul, you went that one step further on this one ,and you made fantastic job of it , including the tag .
All the best Martin 👍
Thank you very much Martin
You're a magician, Paul!
That was one messed up model. Polishing the metal helmet was perfect. The paint was awesome. The new tires were great, but when you painted the red stripes by hand, my jaw dropped.
You have completely reversed my view of what can be done in these small scales.
Bravo, my friend!
Thank you very much Randy
Aw, I had this matchbox as a youngster. One of my favorites to race with! Great work giving it new life!
Many thanks
Hi, Paul! The Red Baron was my very first toy car, so this has special memories for me. ✠ I have one needing restoration too. I've never seen anyone cast their own Redline wheels like this. Nicely done! And the metal tag too! You do brilliant work. Nice to see you working on a Hot Wheels car. Good practice for your April appearance as a Guest Four Horsemen! Take care and enjoy a lovely weekend. Greetings from Switzerland - Andrew 🍁👍
Thank you very much . I already bought the hotwheels model for April and I'm thinking how to convert it
@@PaulRestorer Great that you found it! I was ready to mail you one of them!
This is another magnificent restoration Paul. The color is also gorgeous. The Red Baron can start his second life.
Thank you very much
I had one of these when I was much younger. You brought back many memories, one of those was the fact that their was a stylized spike on the roof/helmet of this car when it was originally released way back in the 1960's. This point I bring to your attention is in no way intended to cast any aspersions on the astonishing work you performed right before both mine and others' eyes. It is simply an observation. Nothing more.
The real car, not the Hot Wheels. Other details were simplified', too. (Thr point on the helmet was called a pickelhaube.)
I actually had this car.
Yes and no. The original hot wheels had a taller “stick” on top. Kind of a very stubby cylinder like a tiny nipple, never a “spike” that was only on the model kit and the full size car. It was later reduced in the hot wheels car to this little “bump” which is dumb.
@@randytaylor1258 Not exactly. The first hot wheels cars had a tiny “stick” (round cylinder), very short, representing the spike of the model kit and full size car. It wasn’t much taller than the later bump you see here, and both were dumb, it needed a small point of some kind.
@@DoctorShocktor It's a toy, doggone it. You'll put yer eye out! haha😵
OUTSTANDING !!.. Easely my favorite of all cars, well done Paul.
Thank you very much Scott
One of my favorite Hot Wheels castings! Excellent restoration!
Thank you very much Ron
My big brother build a Red Baron as a soap box racer when I was a kid. Love this car!
Thank you very much Yannick
The big helmet from "Spaceballs" would have been awesome for it😄
An absolutely beautiful & wonderful restoration of a truly fun & classic toy! Great job, Paulie
Thank you very much Michael
You are an artist Paul, I am fascinated with each piece you make, greetings 👊🏼😉
Thank you so much 😀
Fantastic job great work on the whole deal Cheers KC Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝😎👍
Thank you very much
My god, one of the most awesome package you've ever done bro, just loved it. The vehicle is splendid though. Never saw this one, ever 😁👍👏👏👏👏
Thanks a ton!
The car I expected to be done well...the packaging was just another level...BraVo!
Thank you very much
Wooo totally awesome .. Incredible work. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much
When I was doing these Spectraflame colors I basically polished the body and sprayed over that with candy (clear) colors. I think the original was directly over the zinc coating which is why they get dark spots underneath on otherwise mint cars.
Nice work, bringing back memories.
Thank you very much Michael
Great restoration sir, an old car toy
Thank you very much
Wow, you put about as much work into making the packaging as you did the car. I would have never thought that someone would care enough to restore a little Hotwheels car. I appreciate your work and talent. 😃
Thank you very much Alan
When I was a kid, we had Hot Wheels rather than Matchbox cars, and that one is a classic. I had one when I was a kid. Man, I’m old!!
Great work as usual, mi amigo.
Cool, Thank you very much
Had this as a plastic model once, but never got hold of the toy car. Nice Work!
Tom Daniels wasdesign -- he worked extensively for Monogram which, like Hit Wheels, was owned by Mattel.
Muchas gracias
Fantastic restoration Paul and the card is pretty nice too.
Have a great weekend my friend.
Thank you very much Charlie
That is a fantastic restoration Paul, the attention to detail on the medal and the blister pack outstanding.. thank you for video.

Once again a masterpiece. I wondered at first how the red stripe would get back on the (new) wheels.... The idea is brilliant 👍🏼
I hereby officially declare myself envious once again 🤣

Great job on this classic!!!! Still have mine from childhood, was a longtime favorite. Hopefully you have a couple more redlines to do, it’s nice seeing you refresh one to it’s former glory.

Thank you very much
Pozdrawiam i życzę miłego weekendu, Joachim
Vielen Dank Joachim
Very cool car ... great restoration.. thank you.
Thank you too!
Delightful. We were really spoiled with the quality of these in the 70s, the paint finishes were great.
Yes. The transluscent paint over the metal made a nice candy paint job. Together with the redline tires and chrome "mags" it made ANY Hot Wheels model cool. After a while the ones that I liked most had exposed engines.
Thank you very much
Red Baron and Paddy Wagon were my two favorites.
I still have them both although not in perfect condition. The Paddywagon was my favorite and its got some dings and scratches.
@@joshuamitcham1519 I have a vague memory from Hot Wheels coloring books that they were rivals. Could be 5 year old me just making them sworn enemies.
This was my favorite Hotwheel as a kid. I actually got this car and another in a intro two pack for Hotwheels. They were some of the first out there
This was my favorite if not my 1st Hot Wheels car when I was a kid in the early seventies 👍
I think Mattel made a kit model for this as well 👍
I had the Red Baron in 1973 when I was in third grade. I lost it in the sandbox at school. My dad took me back to look for it, but it was pointless. I finally got a reissue about 10 years ago.
Amazing attention to detail. Your truly a master
Thank you very much!
Great job my friend. Love it!
Thank you very much
Born 1970 - I had one! Still have many of my original Hot Wheels - many almost new looking condition and some destroyed. Great work and video!
Cool, Thank you very much
I've been waiting for a hot wheels restore.
Thank you.
Cool
Great restoration
Thank you very much
Muchas gracias
better holding point when you’re painting the car Awesome restoration.
Thank you very much Cary
That toy sure saw a lot more fun in the first 50 years of its existence than it ever will again!
Cool
The work you do is Amazing!
Thank you so much 😀
very good,Paul. All early Redlines are worth silly money, even in bad condition.I have a few,but they are valued at £250 for a dozen, not in top condition!Even the tin badges can be upwards of £20 or more.
Thank you very much Terry
¡Wow, finalmente lo hiciste, Paul! ¡Excelente restauración! 👏👏👏👏
Thank you very much
Dude that is some awesome work.
Thank you! Cheers!
Salut Paul, elle est super belle, bravo. Salutations de Suisse 🇨🇭 et à bientôt 👍.
merci beaucoup Pedro
Watching now cool I'll be back lol
The only thing missing is the " Spike " on top of the helmet ... Very good restoration !
Thank you very much
Very cool, well done.👍
Thank you very much
Super restorasion cool top😊
He even embossed the tin badge. 👏
Thank you very much
Nice. A Hot Wheels. Be cool if You did a gaslands build though. 👍
Thank you very much
You don’t own a vise?
Pretty risky drilling out those rivets holding it with your bare hands.
Not just a vise, but a drill press would be better to use, too. Reduce the risk of slipping out of the axis of the drill bit and snapping it.
Wow! 👏👏👏Great job Paul! Interesting model! 👍
Many thanks Dimi
Pozdrawiam.
i remember these from when i was a kid, when we were having a race meet you brought your fastest cars and your coolest the kids that were lucky to have one of these always brought them, they were slow as crap and never won a race but they sure looked cool
Cool
If I remember correctly the helmet of the car had a spike/cross on the top of it. I did not see that on your restoration.
The reason I know is because I took mine off the car because everytime it would go through my Superchargers on my track it would hang up on that cross. So I removed it to keep that from happening. Amazing what you remember from when you were a kid.
Great job on the restoration.
Thank you very much
As a little girl I had a lot of hot wheels & match box car's.
This one as well.
Cool
Das ist ein tolles Modell 😀👍
Cool
Oh what! I had this when I was young. What memories 😛 Great restoration 😘

Sir you are a master resurrector of old diecast metal toy cars. Bravo 🙂
Thank you very much Michael
Looks really good!
Thank you very much
Wow Paul...Fantastic...
Thank you very much Brian
Red Barron custom car. Very cool one of a few custom cars thathad a straight six for a engine (Pontiac) great video.
Thank you very much
Wow! I remember having that one as a little kid. It was in a shoebox with all my other Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars.
Cool
I bought one of these for a hard earned dollar back around 1970 or so from a corner 5 n dime across from Lake Bottom Park next to St. Elmo School in Columbus. Had it for 1 day and forgot it at a friends house. Weird the memories you keep.
I used to save my lunch money instead of eating to buy a model or Thunderjet slot car usually. When Hot Wheels came out and a couple kids showed them off at school I HAD TO have one. It was a particularly wet, sloppy, cold winter evening that I walked about a mile to Walgreens and bought a green Cougar. I think it was the only Hot Wheels car they had left that wasn't sold out.
The mongoose and the snake were classics
Va mi like y saludos
Muchas gracias Walter
Tolle Video. LG Jan
Vielen Dank Jan
Fantastic work!👍
Many thanks!
Che strano modello? Comunque è stato fatto restauro perfetto! Top
The design proved so popular that it was created as a full-size show car with more details.
Gran bel lavoro di restauro, complimenti! 😀
Grazie mille
