Dinky restoration of Maximum Security Vehicle No. 105. Captain Scarlet TV series. Cast model.

Introduced in 1968, the first maximum security version of the #105 vehicle was painted white with a red base, red painted stripes, decals, open windshields, a red interior, and red stripeless steps. The contents of the chest looked identical to gold bars. But then again, the crates originally contained "gold" because they were shipped in Dinky Truck No. 275 "Brinks" and had a US Treasury sticker. The model was produced in off-white, although the television vehicle was grey. The vehicle had a side door that opened upwards and carried a crate labeled "radioactive". There were many variations of this model, but most were created at later stages of production. Interior changes were the most noticeable. Red was used for most releases and until the end of the series, but dark and light blue interior variants were also made. My copy had a broken loading ramp and the other one was missing. The crate and antenna were also missing. My chest is different from the original one and contains round bars, not ingots. This is one of your best restorations, In my opinion. I love these old futuristic vehicles from sci fi shows from my childhood.
Fantastic how you made the missing door from a spatula !
These vehicles sell for 100's of dollars in mint condition, these days.

Wow, that was good, what a trip down memory lane.. You made me want to go and find my example of this toy.
If only to see just how accurately you recreated it.
I seem to remember that mine had fake gold bars in that crate rather than radio active stuff. Plus the fold down ramps actually touched the surface that car stood upon.
Your paint job and transfers are definitely better than original, they were very prone to peeling off, especially the red lines.
I would never restore mine, as it is near mint, but I wish I had kept the box, which I did for many years.

I recently learned that the guy who designed a lit of the vehicles and sets for the gerry Anderson TV shows (thunderbirds' scarlet etc) was also the artist for the cover and insert book of the Jeff Wayne War of the worlds album. Was told that on a charity shop page I'm a member of by another member who knows the guy. Can't for the life of me remember his name though

Lovely Restoration on this one. I had this one the SPV and the Red one too. Also I had the Batmobile with Batboat and trailer. Also the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car too. The Box In mine had Gold bars In It. I had the Angles Planes as well as Stingray + Fish and Thunderbirds all of them too. Just loved Gerry Anderson shows. All In a case somewhere.

Nice use of aluminium tape there. My dad used to bring rolls of that stuff home from his job. I used it - along with bacofoil - to turn most of my action man dolls into Cybermen!
