- This is a great song by Phil Collins & Sting called "Long Long Way To Go". The song was used in the hit serie Miami Vice - Season 2, Episode 23, "Sons And Lovers" (last episode from season 2). Buy Miami Vice: The Complete Series. It's worth it. One of the best series ever made.

This 4 minute video was harder than anything on tv the last 37 years
I remember playing a gig and this episode was on at the club. I couldn't believe this happened to Tubbs!
There will NEVER, and I mean NEVER EVER, be a TV show as cool as Miami Vice ever again. That's a fact.
This is true, I discovered Miami Vice in France, probably at the end of the 80s. This TV series is clearly the point of origin,of the fascination who exist in France for the city of Miami.
Same opinion from Belgium ! Respect with tears !
One of the great things about this show was it extensive use of hit songs and song writers to create the perfect atmosphere for the scene. This scene for example use almost the whole song for this scene alone. Nowadays that would cost the production a huge percentage of the daily budget in copyright fees just to attempt for just one song. Thats one reason why a great TV show like this will probably never happen again😞
Your so right and what guy didn't want to be Sonny Crockett
Agreed. Somethings you can only archive once in a lifetime, Kenobi.
Actors, scenes, locations, photography, story, plot, cars, fashion, design, architecture, soundtracks. Probably the best TV series ever.

AMEN ARRIGO. WELL SAID
NOT PROBABLY, IT IS. PERIOD THE END
NASH BRIDGES WAS PRETTY DAMN GUD AFTER VICE. BUT OBVIOUSLY VICE STANDS ALONE. I'M A DONNIE WAYNE JOHNSON LUVR. FORGIVE ME
It's ironic how, when Phil Collins appeared on Miami Vice, he played kind of a goof ball character, he was funny! Yet, his songs he did for the show were so intensely serious. Phil Collins is one of the all time great musical artists.
Remember the name of the episode was " Phil the Shill"
I love how Miami Vice would play entire songs sometimes. That's one of the reasons this show will go down as one of the best. Constructing a scene around the entire song - awesome writing/ directing
Same here, it's one of the reasons why I enjoy watching Miami Vice so much. Plus, its visual style and the themes of the various episodes make stand out from the crowd even all these years later.
And picking the prefect song for those moments.
For sure
Micheal Mann did this alot he's an incredible director/producer!!
MAN I was a teenager in the 80's I watched this show every Friday at 9pm never missed a episode boy I miss it
Same here!!!!
I can honestly say growing up in the 80's was like winning the life lottery. I do not believe there will ever be a decade like it again - ever. It was a moment in time where the stars literally all aligned. Life was fantastic. It was a true blessing being able to live throughout that wonderful decade.
Absolutely
Perfectly stated. Life was good in the 80s and we knew it then while we were in it! I also know it wasn’t free from terrible events and life wasn’t perfect but there’s just something about the 80s. The world, life, was lighter. Such a fun time!
So well said!! I grew up in Miami in the 80s and that was truly the greatest time in my life!! So grateful to have been alive then🙏🏼
Agreed, even with the ever present threat of Nuclear War with the Soviets, it really was a truly magical time. I often tell my kids how much I wished they could have experienced the childhood I was so fortunate enough to have had
Out of curiosity, what did you love about the 80s
I still believe the 80s was absolutely the best decade ever. The music, movies, TV shows, everything was so awesome back then. The right balance of fun, family, fantasy and hope without all the drama.
I believe so too and am glad I grew up in the 80's. Wouldn't want to grow up now with all the hatred all over the world and all the senseless killings.
Absolutely. Unique, wonderful, my heart is bursting when think about it , growing up with that decade , it will only exist in my memories and some other things such as Vice episodes and music. But it's not gonna come back.
Absolutely.
arab peninsula wars ..or Afghanistan ..or US occupation and political influence in sout and Latin America .. there was not everywhere peace and happiness
John Dyer. You’re so right sir, GoodVibes ✌️😉
Miami vice has the power to transport me back in time to a great time in my youth. I was 15 when it began and 25 when it ended. For the record I I'm 59 as I write this. Where has the time gone?
60 here my favorite episode was with Danny Sullivan the race driver. The scenes with nija 600s, I had 85 red and white brand new. So now you know why I love that episode. Second ferrari daytona(replica) with Phil Collins in the air tonight rocking. Grat time to be a teen
I want my 80s back😭😭👍💓🕊️🌹♥️
How many of you feel today's TV shows, movies lack writing skills, continuity, imagination, and intelligence?
80s. Better shows. Better music. A better time
Phil Collins OWNED the 80's, this is one of if not the best song of them all, that riff to start with sets up the hypnotic feeling I get listening to this. I wonder why this wasn't played more.
Maybe it was a bit too real, The record's in English.
Tenés toda la razón amigo...PHILL COLLINS..CAPO TOTAL
Actually, Madonna did. But who's counting? :)
@@gregoryhagen8801 Michael did lol
Actually Sting was the biggest rock star of that era as the leading singer for The Police who became the biggest band of that era and then Sting launched his very successful solo music.
This is the coldest ending in TV history.
Miami vice was the shit. When I was younger I waited week by week for this show.
This is the best cop show of all time.
Don't forget Crime Story, though....
Tide Talk With Webb why the hell cant they make shows like this now ?
They don't make em like they use to but Miami Vice and Crime Story is another good cop shows
The Wire?
I watched it every Friday night at my grandparents house. Loved it then, love it now!!!😘❤
Philip Michael Thomas - great, underrated actor.
Lance Vance as well in Vice City
Definitely
H Raa...AMEN!!!!
So underrated that he is an icon of the most popular TV show in history for which he was nominated for the Golden Globe. I wish I was that UNDERRATED. Get a f... king dictionary and check what this word means!
Deserved better from Hollywood. He was great as Tubbs in Miami Vice. He had a swag and was cool.
Somehow, people in the 1980s looked cooler than most folks do nowadays. The clothes, the hair, etc...just class without trying too hard.
Miami Vice will haunt me for life !!
Powerful shit better than any show today hands down
amen
Miami vice best soundtrack of any tv show ever.
Twin Peaks soundtrack is maybe even better :)
That's because The 80's had the best music ever! By far the biggest variety. Also it was a way more fun, feelgood and just a downright happy decade period!
I agree, I own all three volumes of the soundtrack and the two disc CD of Jan Hammer's instrumental music from the show. All of the music video scenes in the various episodes are always a highlight for me.
The best
You can say it for sure!
Phil Collins is voice of 80s.
He really is!!!
David Avetis I was born in 90 but got to listen to his music truly a legend also loved his songs in Tarzan the Disney movie
Also was in balto he played muck and luck the polar bears it was a favorite of mine
Steve Perry is probably the voice of the 80’s. But Phil Collins certainly is right there.
@@mbapache64 Whos is Steve Perry, are you kidding
This scene, this song, is the reason I want it played at my funeral
I said exactly the same thing...play this song at a loop.
My also
Anyone living in the 80s knows it was the best time to be alive this was my favorite show no one did it better than MR mann
I love how his whole department supported him.
Crockett and Tubbs had a bond that was real. You could feel it. The whole unit, albeit from varied backgrounds, was like a family and I credit Lt. Castillo's quiet but strong leadership for that. The show that saved Miami.
The 1980's were the best
The baby wasn't in the car that blew up, rather he was taken out of the car by Orlando Calderone. Angelina died alone in the car.
Phil Collins is so talented. This scene needs to be watched over and over again.
I do all the time
Tears from Belgium !
GREAT FUCKIN CALL JONATHAN. PHILL THE SHILL
So trizzle. Phizzle was the shizzle. No dizzle. Hizzle's mizzle sizzles. Phizzle Collizle wizz thizzle bizzle songwrizzle frizzle the sevizzles thru the nizzles.
It's a shamizzle that Phizzle can no longer plizzle.
Loved the episode when Phil was the con man turned game show host then televangelist. “Life Is a Rat Race.”
That scene was cold-blooded! No other cop show (if you can call it that) has ever hit as hard as Miami Vice! For me, it's like an 80s Miami time capsule. The cars, hit music, acting prowess, and timeless writing will last through the ages.
God I miss the 80’s!
Michael X man who are you telling, would go back tomorrow
Miss it everyday brother. 😢
me too, after the 90s there is no style anymore..think about it..every decade of the last century had its own style and sound..this century..nothing that stands out except how lacing it is
Me too. They were just better than these days
Michael X I miss 80
Total respect to the person who create this scene.Everything is perfect
Scene is pure magic.... the way they're all lined up in office as camera slowly focuses on Tubbs walking out of inner office and they surround him like bodyguards protecting their own ... then the funeral scene ...Michael Mann is as close to a Sergio Leone of television with Vice
One of the BEST shows ever!!!! I miss Miami Vice!!! I wish Netflix would air it! What a great time to be young! Kid’s today don’t have any idea how great that era was! Thank you God that I could enjoy it!
Hi Marilyn,hope you’re okay ?
I'm watching all 5 seasons on Peacock
This song is stunning and haunting still, over thirty years later.
And I will still binge play this song to this day. Love it!
Phil Collins & Sting......two exceptional artists in their own right........beautiful but haunting sad song......long long way to go.........the grief of a loved one 🌹😇🎼
Yes, two of the sages of musical genius 👏 Andy Summers contributed his haunting guitar tones as well 🙂
I will never get tired of Crockett and Tubbs me and my buddy would go get taco Bell before it started watch Miami Vice then Friday Night Videos I miss the 80s
Skipper G
Serious question.....
Did u miss sum of Miami Vice, bcause Taco Bell sent u RUNNIN OFF 2 da bathroom?
Sounds like epic nights my friend. I miss the 80’s so much.
Missed the 80s.
Was Taco Bell around in the 80’s?
@@scottstevens5096 It definitely was. And I remember it tasting different than it does currently.
No other music could match this scene. Perfect.
I agree!!!
John Murray
I agree. I had this song in my head today so I was like let me go look for that scene from Miami vice lol
I agree
Totally agree with you and also the other classic scene was Crockett and Tubbs in the car and the background Music was Phil Collins in the air tonight. Priceless! Miami Vice had the best score music One of the best TV shows!!
Phil Collins really set the tone for the 1980s. His music seemed perfect for that time.
I worked in radio in the 80's and I agree that his sound is one of very distinct sounds of the 80's.
Luv all ur comments peeps. Damn what a show and time. At 49 years old I'm still tearing up watching all these vice videos. Absolutely brilliant imo
This show still stands above anything since then. It had everything. It had a "soul" that shows nowadays just don't have. This show made you feel something in your heart.
This show caused everyone to become invested in the characters. Phil Collins music is perfect
Confusing the Son was out for revenge They Took Soony out of The Part Tubbs went on vacation with his new Girlfriend the note said I'll be back
Nip Tuck was a sincere fan of Miami Vice... the only other dark/nihilistic TV show that I know of that used 80s music during every tragic ending (look up Eyes Without a Face Nip Tuck or Jesus to a Child Nip Tuck)
I love this ending. Tubbs' face when he reads the note then places it in his pocket like he's not even phased by it cause it's Calderone that needs to be afraid. I love it!
Exactly...
That scene was brutal. 😢😢
The only downside is calderone was never mentioned again
Tubbs face says it all " I'm coming and I'm gunning for you Calderone" cool as ice ,cool AF
@@hwyman02 Calderone was mentioned again, there's an entire episode in Season 3 where Tubbs and Orlando Calderone battle it out on an island. It was Tubbs child with Angelina that is never mentioned again...
Miami Vice is one of the best shows that aired on television. Any clip from this show gets an automatic thumbs up from me. GREAT scene!
Truth 500%+500%.
miami vi e
I have watched every episode several times. I was in my 20s when this show aired. Miami vice, saturday night live and MTV back in the day
@@huggyjd when MTV first came on back in 1981, my friend and I watched it for almost 4 days straight. Going to the bathroom took a backseat to Nina Blackwood's VJ spot Wearing the same clothes after 4 days starts to get to you. We couldn't afford cable TV so that's why I went to my friends house. I was in my teens when MTV started and, like other's I'm sure, changed my life. Between watching MTV, soul train, midnight special, no other show was worth watching until... September 16 1984..The Birth of Miami Vice. That 2 hour special would have such an impact on my life that still last to this day. On a stack of Bible's, it was, and still is the best tv show of all time. And with that the 1980's was, and still is the best decade ever. I could talk for days about the 80's.
patrick mcglone THE best!
If Phil Collins is involved its 100% gonna be brilliant 👍
Combine his genius with Sting and this masterpiece happens 👏❤
The second Miami Vice does not compare to the original❤
I love that Castillo is the first one to surmise that something is wrong ... E. J. Olmos played a great character.
Survivor of drug wars in jungle, or you are paranoid and alive... or you are rotting in a putrid stream of dirty water... but yes, Olmos is a great actor!
@@khaelamensha3624 Good point.
@@robertobassetto885 I must confess that my favorite character is Castillo. This guy is amazing and Olmos gave him a deepness it is hard rock. Everything or anyone that try him is crushed. I love when he get out of his office, always great episodes
@@khaelamensha3624 True, and Olmos had to fight hard to make the production accept his own depiction of Castillo, a character that was completely different from the average "boss" in 70's - early 80's crime shows (Captain Dobey in "Starsky and Hutch" was a sort of standard). When I was 17-18, I didn't like MV very much, but I changed my mind when I matured. Great show, deeper than it seems.
I can remember this scene as a child..back n 1986.. I was 10 years old and a big MIAMI VICE Fan.... 😯..✌..
Just like me 😉 76er
Grew up with this , influenced my life in numerous ways
I was 11 and still a die hard fan
Millennials don't know about this stuff
@@Boba0205 Me too!!! 75
I was only 8 when I was a fan of Miami vice seen the show from their debut in 1984 to the end of it which I wish it didnt end it could of went little longer but it didn't. I enjoy the music the special guests in the show and not only phil collins music also michael mann's theme music
It wasn't just the music, fashion, or Ferraris. It was the first real crime drama show in which the good guys didn't always win. The bad guys didn't get "conveniently winged" in the hand, shoulder or arm. When people got shot, they were taken out. The return of the bad guys, like today, would escape justice and it would be a battle to bring them to justice...one way or another.
Each decade has one show that becomes timeless. This is the 80s offering in my book.
Phil is multi talented but hasn't had the fanfare or recognition he deserves. A superb drummer, singer, songwriter, actor, and all round effortless genius.
Miami Vice was ahead of their time
Good lord, this is still amazing 40 years later. The characters all just standing there, they dont even have to do anything
MIAMI VICE debuted when I was 12, so I grew up on it. It introduced me to Phil Collins - one of my favorite singers - as well as many of the great recording artists of the 80's. I remember the final episode being so sad for us, because my friends and I knew it was the end of an era. Miami Vice ended just as we graduated high school, so it was truly the end of a great era.
The music, the cars, the girls, the boats, the clothes Miami Vice had it all in spades. Go I miss the 80s and Miami Vice ...........................................
This was a very cinematic television program way ahead of its time.
This had me in tears I felt bad for Tubbs losing his lady but his son is not dead Calderone took him and planted a doll that looks like his son......powerful performance from Phillip Michael Thomas👍👍👍👍👍
Hopefully when they make a Miami Vice revival, we’ll probably would see Tubbs’ son. He’d probably be a drug lord himself today since his half uncle took him.
Omg! I was very young that time & didn't understand a lot because english wasn't my first language. But I knew & everyone watching this episode with me that night, that his ladylove & his Baby both died. We all feel sad for his tragedy. But After all these years! Mr Tubbs' baby didn't Die!
That was the biggest plot hole in the series. We never discovered what happened to his son, and Tubbs never learned that he was alive.
Gosh, I didn't remember this episode, lol. Thanks for the breakdown.
I though calderone was killed earlier than this episode
Nothing screams the 1980's, more than "Miami Vice" and the soundtrack from that television show featuring the vocals of Mr Phillip Collins...I'm 53 years old and had lived the eighties as a teenager. Boy, do I miss that decade...
Phil Collins and Miami Vice went hand & hand. His music and voice was perfect for the concept of this show.
@@perrysaunders331 You're right man! I have followed Phil Collins since his days in "Genesis". I have so much of Phil Collins on cassette tape and CD. I hope you doing okay.. the world is changing so much. Here is Australia, we are all shocked at what's happening in the United States. I pray for peace and harmony...
I missed some of the shows in real time in the 80s when I was overseas for a few years (86-88) but caught up when I returned. This show being at the top of the list. The movie HotTub Time Machine covered our 80s a little.
Legend of a singer, and band. No one can compare. I'll never forget when this episode aired. So glad, they used his work on it. Espically for this iconic scene. Legendary. It literally suits it.
Legend
There one thing I love about Miami Vice. The endings were seldom happy endings. It always have a sense of loss somewhere in the plot. The soundtracks were flooded with great music artists of the day.
Thing about miami vice. You had to live it. Being the rigbt age, at the right time.. there was nothing like south florida in the eighties. The colors, the music, the clubs, the clothes ,the cars ,the ladies and of course the recreational pharmacuticals.this show captured it all
What a combination Miami Vice and Phil Collins The Best of the 80's Can not be beaten
Phil Collins is the greatest musican ever !!! The songs are totally sensibility and there´s soul in his music. I´am a great fan of this.
Yes hes awesome at his craft. Simply the best
Same here
Me too
Definitely. There's a Phil Collins song for every emotion.
This song brings back so many memories of a better life in the 80's..what a show...
There was never a show like Miami Vice and there will never be again unless it returns my all-time favorite cop show Miami Vice
Absolutely best ever, clothes, jewelry, fast cars, best music.
Alot of actors made their mark there. Just 80s on steroids
Miss the 80s
Miami Vice defined my teenage years. It was THE show at the right place and at the right time. Everything about it was perfect. It was light years ahead of anything else back then and there hasn't been anything like it since. I doubt we'll ever see another ground breaking and game changing series that had such an impact on so many lives across the world.
Best Show on network TV..Best Direction, Screen Play, fashion, soundtrack, everything...
the show that started it all...no other show comes close
3 decades later, never feel a bit outdated
AMEN EDWARD
The 86 is merely just yesterday, man.
The scenes, the actors, the clothes, the cars, the music. It will be amazing if anyone can ever put this type of show together again.
Phil Collins.. everything he did in the 80s (solo and with Genesis) assured he could take it easy and tour every few years. Why bother with new albums? Pretty much everything he did in the 80s worked. I just played this a couple of days ago. It's timeless. Perfect.
Phil Collins and Sting, two legendary artists. Their music will live on for years after they are gone.( I'm glad they're still here though.)
Michael Mann and Phil Collins, wonderful and timeless art work
DON'T FORGET JAN HAMMER. HIS BIRTHDAY IS FRIDAY APRIL 17TH. SAME AS MINE.
Park James Shaw happy Birthday and all the best to you then , mate
And Sting was on some of those tracks to😊
Whoever picked the artist and there song for each individual scene during the whole Miami Vice run is a god!
Greatest cop show ever. Can’t be copied or outdone. I miss my childhood
There will never be a TV series like this one.
The selection of music , the timing and fusion of such music to represent the scene to its fullest is nothing short of genius. Many times during this series this ability was repeated. That's what makes Miami vice the greatest show ever .
Wow!!!It seems that each Phil Collins song reflected each occasion in the series!!!
Extremely sad episode!! 😓💔🥀
Season 2 was crazy for tubbs he went from trying to get with Valerie in the beginning to Burying his Baby mama in the finale
That scene and song is anbsolutely overwhelming! Born in 76 my parents haven't allowed me to watch the greatest series of all time. After the intro I had to go to bed. Damn I love the intros roto- tom arrangement so much...they are the reason why I became a drummer in the end. Miami Vice and all of its music will be in my heart and soul forever.
Jan Hammer is amazing, that roto tom is notorious lol i watch the series now with a good sound system and its fun to hear all the drum, bass and guitar work, had a reggae vibe too in alot of his music 🙂
There are no words for how cool this is.....
Phill Collins was THE soundtrack to Vice. Classic.
Glad to have been able to not ONLY see this BUT LIVE in the BEST decade of music and entertainment EVER…
And that’s straight FACT……
#80s4Ever
One of my FAVORITE episodes, and the first time I heard Long Long Way To Go, which I still love to this day! 🙌🏾
There has not been a show like this since it came out. The music and the direction in these episodes says it all. We, as people are still talking about this show in 2021. That is how good the show is. We are still talking about it, today.
Probably the three greatest TV shows (IMHO) for me are Miami Vice (the one which started it all), The Sopranos, and Breaking Bad. If I was forced to watch only one, MV wins.
This whole scene, the catching of the atmosphere, the slow view from the lake to the funeral. It all has more emotional potential and cinematic deepnes than the whole Marvel "Cinematic" Universe
I Love Miami Vice 🇺🇸
I also
Timeless jam by Phil. Born in 72 and this was and is still the best tv show with jams. No one else cld conceive this back then...this helped the world see different back then...all hail the 80s
Miami vice great TV show
1980s Long gone the best ever decade for everything including clothes, music, fashion, movies, tvshows and also the people and I'm so glad I was part of it growing up as a 70s child.
I love how this music just fits perfectly into the scene.
Damn we need to go back to the 80s
This series was amazing for dozens of reasons. The number one reason being that Michael Mann is so talented.
THE MOST EMOTIONNAL SCENE HEARTHBREAKING scene with phil collin s song.. 😢😢😢😢😢
These episodes would burst on to the tv every Friday (?) night. Edgy, current music. Intense graphics. The setting. The props.Nothing compares
Michael Mann & Phil Collins ,it's not just a tv show,it's art. The brilliance and athmosphere of Miami Vice will never be repeated. The heart and soul of this period of time is sadly missing nowadays. Take me back.
I used to watch this series while i was in Africa ... it was a dream to discover USA and Miami ... i did it ! Thanks Miami Vice !
Boss
Miami Vice was the best show on T V. Phil Collins voice is so distinctive and talented my girlfriend and I really enjoyed hearing it.
