      The Dalai Lama's impressive salary
Conspiracy: The Dalai Lama is a CIA agent.
The truth: Perhaps the reason the Dalai Lama is smiling in all those photos has something to do with the six-figure salary he pulled down from the U.S. government during the 1960s. According to declassified intelligence documents, he earned $180,000 in connection with the CIA's funding of the Tibetan Resistance to the tune of $1.7 million per year. The idea was to disrupt and hamper China's infrastructure.
Slavery in Tibet used to be so bad for the 95% of the ordinary Tibetan people (who were slaves) that their life expectancy were only 32 years of age! After 70+ years of being freed by the Chinese government their life expectancy jumped to 72.5 years of age! The rich land owners, noblemen, and religious leaders (Dalai Lama included) treated the rest of the population so badly that they were often starved or beaten to death if they ran away from their bondage and none of the ordinary Tibetan people don't own any kind of property for they were forced to work for free. Their only compensation was that they weren't murdered in a painful, malicious way, but all of them died brutally whether it was from starvation, illnesses, torture, or simply worked to death!

Since the 16th century, the legitimacy of the Tibetan living Buddha reincarnation system has been determined by the Chinese central government under the Qing Emperor Qianlong, and has become a historical custom that has continued for centuries. First, the living Buddha must not identify a person by himself; second, the search team must find several candidates based on supernatural events; third, one must be selected from the golden jars of the Qianlong period in Beijing. Fourth, leading cadres above the central committee should go to the scene to supervise, and fifth, the results of the lottery should be reported to the central chairman for approval in a timely manner. Sixth, the central overseer announces the next living Buddha. The Qing Dynasty was supervised by the minister in Tibet and approved by the central Emperor! During the period of the Republic of China, during China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the then Central Government of the Republic of China sent Wu Zhongxin, Chairman of the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission, to Tibet to preside over the enthronment ceremony of the 14th Dalai Lama today. He reported the enthronment ceremony to then-President Chiang Kai-shek of the Central Government of the Republic of China for approval. This is a historical custom, indispensable, if less there is no legal basis. He is not a real living Buddha!

Historical record showed during the time of Kangxi Emperor, he once had a conversation with the Dalai Lama of his time and asked to explain the process of choosing future successor. The outcome was that Kangxi said the process is completely rigged, meaning they can pick anyone they want and call it the next Dalai Lama. Then the emperor ordered them to redesign the process of choosing future successors. Then few years later one of the mongo banner lord heard of this and implemented this process in mongo lands and made his son the religious ruler. Spiritual leader have a nice ring to it, but there is nothing spiritual about it. If Kangxi Emperor can change the rule of the game, that means anyone can do it.

This is quite biased reporting, Wikipedia did a much better job discussing the controversy surrounding Dalai Lama's succession process. The "Golden Urn" selection was used with some frequency in recent history (with only exemptions submitted by previous Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama, historically the head of "Search Committee" of next Dalai Lama). So as they say, reality is often much more nuanced than what is reported here.

Tibetan Buddhism is just a small branch of the religion, less than 5% of all the Buddhists around the world. Dalai Lama only stayed relevant through western media's incessant coverage. The CIA has already declassified its sponsorship of the 1959 failed uprising in China led by Dalai Lama, not unlike how CIA used Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban against the Soviet. The only difference between Dalai Lama and Osama Bin Laden is that Dalai Lama stayed in the good grace of the West later in life and get to go around the world to beg for money.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Chinese government restructures the succession of the Dali Lama. In the Qing dynasty the Qianlong emperor changed the reincarnation system in the past and instead chose the 8th Dali lama out of an urn just like the government wants to do today. The thing many westerners don’t understand is that this isn’t a new phenomenon. Chinese emperors always were the ones to give authority to the Dali Lama because Tibetan Buddhism was the state religion for China at one point in history.

This help me understand old Tibet better.
History clearly reveals that the old Tibet was not the Shangri-La that many imagine", he wrote "but a society under a system of feudal serfdom."
Until 1959, when China cracked down on Tibetan rebels and the Dalai Lama fled to northern India, around 98% of the population was enslaved in serfdom. Drepung monastery, on the outskirts of Lhasa, was one of the world's largest landowners with 185 manors, 25,000 serfs, 300 pastures, and 16,000 herdsmen. High-ranking lamas and secular landowners imposed crippling taxes, forced boys into monastic slavery and pilfered most of the country's wealth - torturing disobedient serfs by gouging out their eyes or severing their hamstrings.

Dalai and his enablers are just sour grapes.
Tibet has became part of China centuries ago back when mongols yuan dynasty. Ever since Tibet has been an autonomous region of China. Today, that has not changed except it’s not allowed to be ruled by the slave owners and elite theocratic leaders politically like in the old time. Other than that, Tibetans live on their own land, the populations have grown so much, and they are richer and better educated, they are free to travel and work any where in China including Tibet, many own business in and outside of Tibet, own property anywhere in China if they prefer, protected by Chinese law. They have the world class infrastructure built by China , receiving tax money funneled from the richer part of China to have better schools and hospitals. They are paid the same level as all Chinese, and can not be discriminated.

Here are some fun history of Dalai's succesion system affiliated with the governing body:
    - 4th Dalai was "reincarnated" in Mongol as the Khan's grandson, so Mongol had an execuse to send troops to Tibet .
    - There were two 6th Dalais in hisotry. The first was appointed not by 5th Dalai either, but by 哦呢of the Tibetan chieftan a few years later. This Dalai died on the way being escorted to Qing emperor, due to his succession not truethfully reported to the central government. Later on, a second 6th Dalai was appointed.

Dalai' reincarnation in history is always by the willingness of political leader, not by the religious leader.
Today, this Dalai is 14th .
      - 4th Dalai born in 1589, in Mongol. He left Mongol for Tibet along with Mongolian calvery. Tibetan ruling class had political conflicts, while some regarded him as holiness, many disregarded him. He was chased out of Lhasa a few years later. And eventually retook the title when conflicts resolved. Btw, he was not nominated by the 3rd Dhalai .
      - Another example is 6th Dalai.
After 5th Dalai died. the 6th Dalai was appointed by political leaders. this decision was not notified by the suzerain: Qing Emperor.
Qing eventually requested army to escort the 6th Dalai back to Beijing, also as another Tibetan pilitical group called out him "false" holiness. He died at a young age.
Eventually ,Qing emperor granted "6th Dalai" to another kid in favor of the winning group of political conflicts.
