A road trip from Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park to Fort Churchill State Park offers a fascinating journey through Nevada's diverse landscapes and rich history. As you leave Berlin-Ichthyosaur, having explored prehistoric marine fossils and the remnants of a mining town, your road trip ventures through the heart of the Silver State, introducing you to two more captivating destinations along the way.
Grimes Point, situated near the town of Fallon, is an intriguing stop en route to Fort Churchill. Here, you'll find a unique archaeological site featuring ancient petroglyphs etched into volcanic rocks by the Native American inhabitants of the region thousands of years ago. These enigmatic symbols and carvings offer a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of the indigenous people who once called this land home. A visit to Grimes Point allows you to connect with Nevada's deep cultural heritage and ponder the mysteries left behind by those who dwelled here in antiquity.
Continuing your journey, you'll reach Fort Churchill State Park, a historical gem nestled along the Carson River. This former U.S. Army fort, established in 1860 to protect early settlers and the Pony Express route, played a significant role in Nevada's history. The well-preserved adobe ruins of the fort provide a window into the past, where you can explore the barracks, hospital, and officer's quarters. The park is not only a testament to the Old West's military presence but also offers opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, picnicking, and birdwatching along the river.
This road trip showcases the remarkable contrast and diversity of Nevada's history and landscapes. From the prehistoric mysteries of Grimes Point to the military heritage of Fort Churchill, you'll journey through time, exploring the legacies of ancient civilizations and the pioneers of the American West. It's a road trip that combines cultural enrichment with outdoor adventure, making it an ideal way to experience the multifaceted wonders of the Silver State.

Hi! 😀. Yes! Ft Churchill is amazing!!!
Another awesome place to visit with old dwellings.. can’t wait for the next vid.. Thank you
Thank you too! More to come as always! 😊
Yes the first time you see an area you feel young like a kid again ,I probably won’t tackle this alone so appreciate the views
So happy to bring it to you. 😊
The expansiveness of the vistas....i can feel the hot breezes. Just love that old photo of the folks in period attire. Imagine as a woman wearing those dresses in the heat! A whole different world from ours, that's for sure. Thanks for the tour! 😊
I love imagining what life was like back then, and it makes me appreciate how much easier life is these days.
I honestly have no idea how women managed in the past with the many layers they wore. Seems like it would have been fairly miserable especially in hotter climates. 🥵
I always make it a point to stop and check out all the old forts I find. That one is pretty cool! Love seeing all the old petroglyphs out west as well.
Nice! Old forts are one of our faves!!
Thank you for showing the good and the slightly bad by not cutting those concerns out. It is part of the education for those who want to enjoy the historical places. Especially out in the middle of nowhere.
Must have Fuel and where to get it. Must have water, Food, Cash, and time along with weather conditions (flash floods).
Agreed! Thanks for watching!!
No problem! Thank you! 😊
Great road trip, Catus! Nevada is a state that think is so intriguing, but traveling off the beaten path makes me nervous in that State for some reason 😬 So I really enjoy watching others road tripping there! 😊
I can understand. Some of the most remote places I’ve been in a long time!
It wasn't till I returned to Colo, that I saw Churchill, and I was in Dayton, Virginia City, Grimes. Wish I had known. Great videos, keep it up !
All very cool places! Thank you so much! 😊
Fort Churchill was pretty cool. After seeing it I regret that I passed on going to check it out a few years ago.
Always a reason to go back is what I say!
US HYW 50 AKA The Loneliest Highway
Fort Churchill was certainly an 'out post', the people that endured it definitely had 'fortitude' (🤭 sorry forgive the pun) I would imagine the indigenous People of the area weren't particularly overjoyed either with their new neighbors. Thats history for ya!!
Very interesting though Glenn snd Amy, thank you for the ride along 😊
Love always 💛✨
Thanks! Sadly a lot of history has both good and bad and though not pleasant it's a shame not to talk about both sides. And I love a good pun so feel free to bring them on! 😄

I agree. Utah is a fabulous state. But I’m thinking the same. To many things to see
Oh, yeah. You'd need a good couple of weeks to hit everything in Utah you'd want to see and that still likely cover it! 😅
The observations about Utah vs. Nevada and other places is something I too ponder. Utah is like nowhere else I've seen or heard of, but like Time Square or the Vegas Strip, I'd want to visit but not live there. After I'd visited AZ & UT, remote NV scenery was the perfect remedy for red rock overload.
It's nice to have variety and we feel super lucky to have loads of it nearby. Red rocks? Yup. Mojave desert? That too. Saguaros? Back yard pretty much. The southwest is just the best. 😄
Those were some very interesting adobe structures. As you were explaining why they built them, all that kept playing I my head was the fake town of Rock Ridge that they built in Blazing Saddles...maybe it's just me. 😂 Thanks as always and looking forward to the next one!
lol! I can see that.
weather is awesome but it was nt that much worthy since there is not intresting mysterios stories behind it .although just assumptions. but i guess worth to have some pictures of it as keepsake .
Last time I was in Nevada I saw lots of Indian artifacts. Mostly it was just broken whiskey bottles beer bottles and wine bottles
Don't touch it, it said?? Your oil on your skin will help destroy the rock.
