    Wow, Bodie never disappoints! I bet you could make Bodie an annual trip and never get bored! A million and a half for that view...I wouldn't give you a plug nickel, lol. Thanks for the journey, and I can't wait for what's next.

    Bodie never gets old. Sometimes they have night visits and I'd love to do that. I bet the skies are ultra dark there. Mono Lake is great too. I always think about High Plains Drifter when I see it.

      You're right. Bodie just doesn't get old at all. Few places are so picturesque with the history it has. Funny you mention that movie... 😅

    I did an overnighter in Bodie back in the 90s, awesome place! The day I spent there found people dressed in period clothing. Extremely enjoyable! 😎

    Well done!!!! Bodie has been on my list for years! Many people don't show up to camp, but don't cancel their reservation either, leaving it booked, but empty.

      That's been our experience with campgrounds. Rather frustrating. Hope you get to visit Bodie. It's truly a one of a kind place.

    Hi Glen 👋 Fantastic episode on 395 and the Eastern Sierra! That area is such a gem! I love it over there! I enjoyed you taking us along! Mono Lake is one of the most interesting lakes on the area 😊
    I'm not sure if you follow other channels, but Doug Berry has a great channel. He is always exploring over in the Eastern Sierra! He goes on some great adventures over there!

      Thank you so very much! South Pass looks amazing. We had a few old ghost towns we wanted to hit up while in Wyoming but just ran out of steam after hitting up Yosemite and cut the trip short. 😞

    You covered a lot of ground on this episode! I hear you on the campground and the reservation problem. I hate going places and not knowing if I’m going to have a spot. Maybe there should be a limit on how often you can ‘no show! 🤷‍♀️ good call on the hotel at the end! 👍😀

    The bright side is when the campsites go unutilized, gives you more space and privacy that you were talking about in the Suger Pine video. You drove near our timeshare at Heavenly in Tahoe! We usually trade it away and rather go to Utah and other places around the world because, like you, we're not into gambling and rich people, lol (or skiing). It is good for hiking, though. Often, we'll trade Tahoe for a nice hot springs resort over the mountain, which you also drove by at the bottom of the Kingsbury Grade (where your ears didn't pop for some reason, lol). (Yes, you went down the eastern Sierras.) I like your philosophy, but I'm not sure about traveling alone. Thanks again for the videos!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 6 měsíci

      Ah, yes. The privacy is certainly a great flipside to unutilized campsites. Very good point! 👍

    There use to be a dirt road that exited east out of Bodie and connected to the old Town of Aurora. Samuel Clemens lived there for awhile. At one time the town was beautiful and even was running for state capital of Nevada. Unfortunately through the years it's slowly disappeared.

    When we went to Bodie as kids, my brother to this day thinks I was possessed by a ghost there. He said I started acting weird when I looked into one of those old buildings. I guess I still act weird!

    Just recently "found" your channel and subscribed cause good stuff!! Also wanted to see if you knew that East fork also has some nice FF sites. It looked like the site you had was near the entrance/roadside, the nice sites are along the creek and on the south end of the campground is where the FF site are with a few along the creek. Also above the campsite farther up Rock Creek Rd is its namesake lake which has a small campground I usually camp at East Fork because its easier to get a site but prefer Rock Creek campground but it only has 28 sites so hard to get. Than finally at the end of Rock Creek RD is Little Lakes Valley which is...

      Nice! Welcome to our channel! Unfortunately at the time we weren't really well versed on other options in the area (aside from camping at Convict Lake - our first choice which was booked). I think Glenn was just getting tired and not really into the idea of camping in the cold at that point in the trip, however, we'll definitely use your info in the future if we find ourselves there again. Thanks! 👍

    Really liked this episode, I like ones with beautiful landscapes...i'd really like to check out that area and Bodie one day.
    Maybe that campsite wasn't full because people didn't like the weather or canceled for some reason? But yea, I think the reservation system (as I've mentioned here before) is kinda pointless...I like first come first serve...this way yea, it might be full either way but you aren't STUCK w/something that doesn't work for you, like a slanted one, and can choose from whatever is available, I guess either way it can suck. Too bad people have to go to these lengths these days and be put through a bunch of hassle either way...we need more places just like on BLM land...after all...were supposed to!

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 5 měsíci

    I noticed these old towns don’t show their outhouses.. where do they do their business.. out back in the bushes?

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas  Před 5 měsíci

      I imagine they had outhouses. Probably not high up on the list of structures to prevent from decaying in present day. 😅
