  • To celebrate 500 subscribers we are taking YOU on a road trip with us! You'll get to see some amazing sights and behind-the-scenes stuff. This was one epic road trip you don't want to miss.
It's a road trip! Today we wanted to take you along with us as we travel from Phoenix, Arizona to Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. We give you some behind-the-scenes look at what the life of a traveling vlogger is like in the car, out on the road with all the glorious sites of the American Southwest as our playground.
We drove north Tuesday evening and stopped at a hotel in Flagstaff to get a few hours under our belt. From there the magic begins. Pines disappeared and plains unfolded. With the San Francisco Peaks in our rearview mirror, we headed north towards Cameron, Arizona where we stop to look at a historic bridge. We took five minutes to see Elephant's Feet - a lone rock pillar by the highway that looks so very out of place and can't help but catch your attention.
We pushed onward towards the Utah border and marveled at Monument Valley on the horizon. Not too proud to stop at a tourist stop, we couldn't help ourselves and pull over at Forrest Gump Hill, the famous hill where Forrest decides he's tired and wants to go home.
Traveling north, we saw some incredible canyons and constantly changing scenery. We stop at Hite Crossing Bridge over the Colorado River. Red Rocks unfold with amazing cliffs. Finally, we end at Goblin Valley where we camped for three nights.
After setting up camp and filming the bulk of our upcoming campground episode, we hit the sack to get up bright and early the next morning.
In the morning, we rose and headed a short distance away to hike some slot canyons - Little Wild Horse Canyon and Bell Canyon. You'll get to see all about this amazing hike in a future episode. This was an amazing trek with some seriously narrow parts and amazing views. It was quite a workout in parts!
After heading back to camp and washing up, it was time for a good old-fashioned campfire chat! We show you some of the equipment we use to make the Cactus Atlas happen on the road and go into the reason this channel exists. This is a bit more of the personal side of us.
BUT! What campfire would be complete without a little fun trying to conjure the goblins? Maybe it was the sun or maybe the spirits of the goblins got to us... but we sure had a laugh.
The next morning, it was time to dive into what we came for - heading into the Valley of the Goblins and hiking down among the stone goblins that give the park its name. We didn't go just once but twice to see them in different lighting. They're amazing! Expect to see a video on this in the future too.
Finally the next day, we left camp, drove a couple hours back towards Arizona, and filmed our final main video at Natural Bridges National Monument. Here we hiked under the three bridges - Sipapu, Kachina, and Owachomo.
Exhausted but fulfilled we drove to Blanding to stay in a hotel where a much-needed shower and good night's rest was had before driving the six hours home.
We hope you enjoyed this full vlog and got to know us and our filming style a bit better. We had a lot of fun and hope to do this again in the future!

I’ve watched your recent travel vlogs, now catching up on some ‘oldies’. This is brilliant and appreciate the personal sharing of your life and purpose. We’re from Australia and simply love driving and hiking through Arizona and Utah (twice now). I know what you mean about jaw-dropping scenery. Nothing else like it on this planet ❤️❤️. Appreciate what you do and the immense time and effort you put into it

Dear Glenn, so lucky for me & my family found your channel/vlogs. We are from San Jose Bay Area, and we just spend 10 days@2023 Christmas traveling between Moab/Kanab/Page, etc. Before our trip I watched 2-3 of your Utah videos, very helpful especially those fabulous Drone shots! After our trip I watched more of your videos. Oh man, I sincerely wish we watched this video and a few others (Valley of Gods, etc) before our trip, as you kindly shared so much great information with fantastic video/photos. Seriously, I am following more than 20 different travel vlogs channels for many of my domestic or international travels, and trust me, your channel is one of the best and super informative! Please, help us all of your fans on the great work! Wish you and Ami have a great and epic 2024!

I just found you Cactus Atlas yesterday. I'm so glad I did. I'm retired and soon to move back to the Phoenix area from Colorado. I'm planning for traveling around the western states making Utah my first choice hopefully next year. Thanks for your beautiful videos that give me so much inspiration. I visited Canyonlands a while back and stayed in Blanding. Utah has so much to see. The red is so gorgeous. I am subscribed and will be joining you and Amy for more trips. Thank you so much.

WOW! What an awesome video. Loved it. Me and my wife love watching your explorations. Actually you have inspired us to take the same road trip which we are doing next week. We are from Las Vegas so it will be slightly different but we will mostly follow your same path. I have to see the beautiful landscape for myself. It's funny. During your camp fire talk, I thought you were describing me and wife. We love theme parks and exploring too. We just don't do the CZcams video part. Keep up the great content and can't wait to see what else you got planned.

OMG, I started laughing when you found yourself on the Moki Dugway, that gravel road winding up the mesa cliffs. I been where ya been! I found myself in a similar situation in 2012 when I decided to take an innocuous left-hand turn onto that same road at dusk, on my way to Green River, UT, thinking it might be a shortcut. I thought the road was gong to run parallel to the cliffs but it kept going towards them, straight as an arrow, until I found myself at the base of the cliffs and the road went to gravel. Better believe I crept up the middle of the road and stayed away from the edges. If you stop at the top and look down, you'd see a few dead vehicles below that somehow went over the edge. I think I'd read somewhere the Dugway was made as a shortcut for uranium trucks going from a mine to a processing plant, but don't quote me on that. I think there's a video about it on YT.
I love the Moki Dugway and I've taken a few people up to experience it. Once you're at the top of the cliffs, the road heads to the Bears Ears National Monument. I've camped near there but I have yet to visit someday. The Southwest is my muse, I've explored portions of it but I feel as if I've only scratched the surface.
I'm a new subscriber, so keep up the good work!

Ive never heard of dopamine deprivation. Fasting for health is important. Exercise in itself releases endorphins and hormone levels etc. But there is a behavior i noticed with married youtubers, where they speak of Purpose, when making videos for strangers. And remember with social media, our brains feel a dopamine surge after acknowledgement from others in the form of a thumbs up or a praising comment. When we become too attracted (like addiction) and we find purpose, to talking to a camera, instead of sharing life's amazing experiences live, with our loved ones,... we may need reflection on why it is so addicting. I'm sure some are drawn to the occupation of journalism. Care is needed with these matters, take care. Take your spouse along and see their delight, it is so rewarding.

    • @CactusAtlas

Appreciate your concern and well intentions, however, our filming situation is what works for us - Glenn enjoys his occasional solitude filming as I appreciate a moment to myself and later editing the end product. We both work from home and share plenty of off-camera moments. I join in on "filming" adventures when I have interest in going, know that I will not interfere with filming (as I have no interest in being on screen), and have someone available to house sit. 🤷‍♀️😊
