My wife asks me why I do not ever send my food back.
DO NOT FUCK WITH THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE YOUR FOOD.
If the steak comes out medium and I asked for medium rare. Maybe it was an off night for the cook. I am NOT sending it back.
Fast food is a slightly different story (like I was given a completely wrong order (likely the car in front or behind me). But i ain't going to be a dick about it because I once worked those jobs and have watched this scene.
      Moral of the story.
DO. NOT. FUCK. With the people who prepare YOUR food.

People miss one fact about food (especially fast food)
You come around with a receipt and show them the food they will NOT take it back.
You can keep 20 burgers if that's what they gave you.

Nah not necessarily I worked 15 years as a server , bartender, cook , expo , and even manager. Just cause someone is in late like that doesn’t warrant the line treatment that bitch got. Especially if they’ve had some shitty set of circumstances befall them as well & they just need some food. Most people who did that would even apologize for not realizing how close to close it was . Now if they act as she did sure, but usually if I took care of people and also took care of my cooks If someone came in @ 11:50 pm when we closed @ 12:00 am I’d get a 30-40 percent tip especially when handling the situation better than most restaurants do & you just offer limited options to make it easier on your guys or gals closing the line.

My last wife, every damn time we went out to eat, she would find something to bitch about and send some part of her meal back for something. Not done enough. Overcooked. Too this. Not enough that. Always something. It really annoyed and embarrassed me. One night we are home watching a TV news documentary, "Caught In The Act". It was about people who were caught, usually on video, adulterating food in restaurants, the office coffee pot, etc.
One guy was caught spitting in food at a restaurant. They asked if he would do an interview and he consented. The reporter asked what would a customer have to do to get that kind of treatment. He replied "sending food back". He said it was like a slap in the face to the chef and would guarantee you got "special ingredients". I began laughing my ass off. She said "That's not funny". I countered that it was.
But ya know what? She quit sending shit back! I woulda bought that guy they interviewed a beer if I could have.

When you work hard as shit to get the food looking really good and they send it back, it would piss me off so much. But that's why I got out of the restaurant business. What a lot of people fail to realise is hospo staff are like family. We spend up to 6 days a week, 16 hours a day with each other. You upset the floor, you upest the kitchen.

I've put up with the same shit as a cashier and I realized how bad it was in the food business when I worked at Chili's.. so yes, I do know how it's like. I put up with it for over 6 years as both a cashier and a waiter. So don't get off on me like I do not understand you because I do. I dealt with people like that all the time and believe me my most powerful way of putting them down and making them feel like shit was by smiling and being happy and saying God Bless to them. Their guilt was gold!

You could tell she was fishing to get a free meal in the beginning part she told the waitress the last 4 times she came here the food was awful. If it was that bad why keep coming back?
I had the owner of the place I worked at on my side when I had a customer like her. She tried to get things free and my owner put her in her place saying “we provided a service to you; so you’re going to pay for the service provided to you. If you’re not happy with the services we provided, then don’t come back. You’re not getting a free meal just because you didn’t like it.”

I worked in a drive thru for a few years as a teen. I smoked weed in the parking lot and drank beers in the freezer with my friends. It still amazes me how some people can be so rude in a drive thru to a teenager who could care less about their job. I seen people cough in cups before filling them. Drop food on the disgusting floor on purpose then serve it. The best was when my friend smeared ball sweat on the brim of a cup to an asshole that left his drink out while he went to the bathroom. Don't talk down to people who get paid minimum wage. They will light you up.

I run my business well. And with that I mean I tell ALL of my employees I expect nothing less of exemplary behavior and service. I could care less if the customer tells them off, they know if I am around I will deal with the customer my self. Believe me, I have set some of those rude customers straight and told them to treat my workers with respect or they can easily find another establishment to cater to their egotistical needs. I can deal with losing a few dollars.

Please people, if you were at a five star restaurant, they wouldn't let you come in with your wife beater T-Shirt on.

One time a black lady came in and ordered a meal *specifically* cooked and prepared her way. The restaurant I work in has preparations and guidelines on how we cook our food. When her food was cooked and prepared, I handed it out calling her name and going over her order. Sitting in her table, she snaps her finger and points to her own table as a gesture to make me bring her food to her. In addition, she demanded, "Napkins!". There's a certain "S" word for this scenario. I can't quite name it.

That's understandable. I'm a waiter and if I went out to eat and my steak was obviously overcooked I would send it back also.
Just be polite and you waiter will want to help you out as best he can. Just remember that the cooks might have 20+ steaks going at once on a Friday or Saturday night so over/undercooks do happen on occasion.
